» Interview: Claire Corlett at Everfree Northwest 2012!

For anyone living under a rock, last weekend Everfree North West gathered a tremendous amount of voice actors and actresses from Friendship is Magic as guests attending what is probably the US west coast’s biggest MLP convention. Among them are first-timer guests like the girls of the Cutie Mark Crusaders, and I had a chance meeting with Claire Corlett (voice of Sweetie Belle) in the Dealer’s Hall perusing all the various pony wares and taking in all the brightly-colored decorations.

Thus, I was able to get a few words from the excitable dynamo about her first convention experience, as well as getting to know her better as one of the Crusaders.

The text transcript of our little exchange can be found beneath the cut:

This is Willsun of The Round Stable, and I’m here with Claire Corlett, the voice of Sweetie Belle. I just a few questions to ask you! So first of all, how excited are you to be at Everfree?

Claire:  I am super excited! I mean, this is the first con of any sort that I’ve been to. It’s a whole new experience and it’s just really special.

This is your first convention experience ever?

Yeah, of any sort.

How did you first get into voice acting?

When I was five, my dad made a demo for me so that his agent could get me into jobs because if anyone needed a five-year-old voice, well, they’d call me! And I got my first cartoon shortly after my first demo got to a couple of people.

What is your favorite thing about Sweetie Belle since she’s your character?

What is there not to like about Sweetie Belle? She’s sweet, hence the name Sweetie Belle. She’s cute, she’s funny, I like the colors of her mane too, and her sister’s hilarious. I just love her personality so much and her humor. It’s just really cool.

Did you get a chance to meet Tabitha at all?

I do actually, I’ve known her for a really long time. She’s nice!

[Editors Note: Tabitha St. Germain voices Rarity, the elder sister of Sweetie Belle]

Since you’re one of the Cutie Mark Crusaders, do you ever get a chance to hang out with Michelle (Apple Bloom) and Madeleine (Scootaloo)?

I have actually hung out a lot with Michelle. I hope to hang out with Madeleine more. She’s such a nice girl and I really want to get to know her more, and have playdates and stuff, and hang out with each other.

I’m actually shooting something currently with Michelle Creber. You can check out her channel (MichelleCreber), that’s her YouTube channel. She is having a sort of a skit thing called “Speedy & Stretch” with songs and skits and sketches and all that sort of stuff. It’s really cool! I can’t wait for that to come out. You guys should watch it on her channel too, it’s really fun.

You and Michelle recently starred in the film Smart Cookies that you guys just premiered. Tell us a little about your experience on the set.

It’s totally different from voice acting. I mean, it’s like…voice acting you have to put a lot of emphasis into it, and regular acting on-screen you have to be real and you can’t overdo it or else you might seem a little fake, so there’s a whole different concept to voice acting and regular acting.

I don’t want to keep you for too long, but is there anything you want to say to your fans before you take off?

I wish that you guys were here if you can’t make it…I miss you! And to the people that were here, it’s so great meeting you! Thank you so much for the interview!

No, thank you! This is Willsun of The Round Stable reporting from EverfreeNW! See you next time!

Claire Corlett (Sweetie Belle) and Willsun.

And of course, we greatly appreciate Mrs. Corlett for taking the time to talk with us and help coordinate everything while taking care of Claire throughout the entire convention. We hope you all had a fun time and get the rest you deserve!

  1. Claire: “She’s cute, she’s funny, I like the colors of her mane too”

Sweetie Belle in Season 2, Episode 3, referring to Smartie Pants: “I REALLY like her mane!!! <3 <3 :D"

    Lol xD!

  2. “I hope to hang out with Madeleine more. She’s such a nice girl and I really want to get to know her more, and have playdates and stuff, and hang out with each other.”

She’s a teenager now (right?) and she actually used the word “playdates.” Adorable? Silly? I don’t know, but that certainly caught my attention!

A nice, quick little interview for the folks who didn’t get to see the bigger ones. :)
