Have you been hearing rumors floating around? Well, we have too, and the cat’s out of the bag. Meghan McCarthy talks to Entertainment Weekly’s Family Room about the season finale and what’s in store for ponies in the future.

This article is pretty spoilery, as it talks about the premise of the finale as well as upcoming tie-in toys. If you don’t want to know, don’t read it! There’s also new toys to tie-in, which you can find in the article as well. We have the toy images and spoilery details behind the cut.

Yup, Alicorn Twilight is a Done Deal™ and will be happening in the season finale, Magical Mystery Cure, airing on February 16.’

Meghan McCarthy discusses Twilight’s ascenscion, too.

“She was set up from the very beginning to be on an important journey,” explains MLP head writer Meghan McCarthy. “It’s really about her earning this new status by combining all the things that we’ve seen her learn over the course of the series.”

“What we didn’t want to do was change who she is as a character, because she’s certainly someone that everyone’s proud to know and love,” McCarthy says. “I don’t think becoming a princess really changes her; I think it’s going to introduce some new challenges for her.”

  1. I’m kind of excited for Alicorn Twilight. I really want to see how they pull this off.

Also we’ll get a pretty purple pony princess!

I can’t be angry about something like that.

  2. I still say this is temporary, season 3 will end in a cliff hanger and this will be resolved at the start or by the end of season 4. Its obvious Hasbro is making them do this to sell toys, and we know they can still do good stuff with that *look at Royal Wedding* But i’m not gonna be surprised at all if eventually Twilight decides her friends are more important to her then her destiny or something like that and gives up being an Alicorn/Princess/Royal/whatever.

But yeah just have to wait & see what happens.

  3. A lot of people will be angry about this I’m sure, but I’m pretty pumped. I’m looking forward to Princess Twi. :)
