I heard the PC version actually was unplayable, and that's why they removed it.

They released Yume Nikki on steam for free and calling it a horror game which... doesn't seem right. Maybe I'm just weird but I don't consider it a horror game, since nothing can hurt you, and the atmosphere really depends on the player's perspective. It's really just a surreal exploration game, but it's constantly branded as a horror game and that bugs me more than it should.

Re: General gaming superthread
Yume Nikki strikes me as one of those games that are just hard to categorize in general and people go with "horror" because it feels like the word that most players can kinda agree on.

Pity it couldn't have come out before the Steam Awards, because they specifically had one for games that are impossible to describe that would be perfect for it.

I started playing that Nier: Automata game that everyone seems to love. Seems like a cute little robot game where absolutely nothing mysterious or dark is going on behind the scenes. So far I cleared the boss in the desert area and 9S and I are on our way to report what we encountered to HQ.

NieR: Automata status: I found the carnival and beat the carnival boss and that whole area was just so damn cool. I went to the machine village and also defeated the two Goliaths that showed up and suddenly: ALIENS?!
Did a few side missions too. Including the one where the android on the bunker asks you to find belongings of one of your squad members who died at the start of the game, 11B. I withheld the information that 11B was planning to go AWOL since the android held her in such high regard and I'm glad I did because then she reveals she and 11B were lovers and that 11B said she'd always be there for her and I don't wanna think about what happens if she finds out 11B was planning to run off.

Re: General gaming superthread
heads up: you're about to unlock fast travel in the main story real soon, which will be the best time to start sidequesting
I bring it up because there's one sidequest that you can start around now that sends you all over the place, and is best left off to the side until you unlock fast travel

Thanks for the heads up! I'll continue with the main story missions next time I play then until I unlock the fast travel because I was about to go around and try to do some of them (like the robot with the missing little sister).

Oh yeah, do the sidequests when you get fast travel, a lot of them have really neat worldbuilding and writing attached to them. Watch out though, some of them unlock way too early for some reason! As for the other outcome of the 11B quest, I could put it here in spoiler tags if you wanted...

I looked up on YouTube what happens and it looks like she cracks and starts laughing hysterically, saying that 11B deserved to die. Ultimately, I'm glad I went with my choice.Mad Surge wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2018 3:55 amOh yeah, do the sidequests when you get fast travel, a lot of them have really neat worldbuilding and writing attached to them. Also, I don't even know if you can, but when the tank with the robots showed up at the carnival and 9S was like "We should destroy them now before we regret it later!" I opted to let them be. They weren't be hostile, so what's the point? I'd just feel bad.

So here's Nintendo's big announcement today:
Nintendo Labo looks to be a big set of DIY cardboard constructions that you use with special games developed for them. It's like waggle-heavy Wii games crossed with papercraft kits. Kudos to Nintendo for cooking up something fresh using the console's existing features, I suppose.

I didn't get to do a whole lot of progress in NieR: Automata today but I did fight the two creepy dudes on the alien ship and unlocked the fast travel which is a god send. I went and completed a few sidequests, including bringing the person at the resistance camp the music box and finding the ten stamps in the amusement park ("Plaaaaay with meeeeee....").
Really enjoying this game!

NieR question: maybe I'm just being dumb but the sidequest with the lady missing her memories and just having blurry photos to go on. I'm apparently supposed to send her the coordinates of the locations but how exactly do I do that? I went outside of the carnival, since that was one photo I could make out, and didn't see any kind of prompt to do so.
Also, the mission with the YohRa betrayers: when do they actually show up? I have the mission unlocked and the red spots on the map showing where they are supposed to be located but when I went to there I couldn't find them.
I just did the mission where the lady asks you to look for her lover and found him dead in the desert murdered by a machine seeking revenge. I decided to tell her the truth that he was dead.

Re: General gaming superthread
You just need to go to the spot where the photo showed you, a conversation will start and then you just have to talk to the lady again. The hardest spot to reach is in the desert, but the big map shows you where the three spots are!DarkMatter wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2018 7:58 pmNieR question: maybe I'm just being dumb but the sidequest with the lady missing her memories and just having blurry photos to go on. Yorha betrayers: the three spots on your map are three and they only show up on one of them, but the mission is known to be kinda glitchy so if you can't find them at any of the spots reload and try again
As for the last one, she immediately can tell you're lying if you decide to not tell her.
Have you gotten the robokid escort mission yet? Be careful with that one, the escort is much frailer than the desert sister machine and if you activate too many sidequests at once you might attract strong enemies' unwanted attention

Thanks for the tips, I'll be sure to try them out!
And no, I haven't escorted a robokid yet. I did escort the sister back home, though. Is the robokid one also in Pascal's village or another area?

Re: General gaming superthread
Started my playthrough of Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker's Memory today (god, that title's a mouthful).
Pretty much the same game as Cyber Sleuth so far, which I'm okay with. The plot is taking place parallel to the first game (you see Aiba run out of Nanako early on, presumably on a case), which should lead to some interesting developments as events in Cyber Sleuth intersect with HM's story.
Think I'm going to put my LP of Cyber Sleuth on indefinite hold until I finish this game, then weave this game's plot into it at the intersection points.

Re: General gaming superthread
Lethal poison.
Basically, I started in the VA center, where I grabbed the fireworks launcher.
Then I knocked out the auction guy in the north room, where I took his outfit and set off the fireworks.*
I then climbed off the balcony from the same room and shimmied to the drainpipe, slid down, then ran into the party while avoiding the auction noticer.
Poisoned the vodka glass on a table next to the gazebo, then all I had to do was wait until he keeled over.
Did take me a few tries to get right.
*Might even set it off as soon as you grab it. The target makes his way to the vodka glass pretty fast and he only drinks out of it once. The fireworks distracted him.

Been playing more Nier Automata. Mostly doing side missions including the YorHa "betrayers", the missing child robot, the photographs, Father Servo the karate master (I think I'm on the last fight against him), and many more. Story wise I just cleared the forest area.

just an fyi: talking to the resistance leader and going to the main story quest thing that she leads you to railroads you and you won't be able to do sidequests for a good while once you reach the main quest marker she gives you.DarkMatter wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2018 3:40 amBeen playing more Nier Automata. so if you just want to do sidequests right now, just keep that in mind. you'll still be able to go back to them later though.

Thanks for the heads up! I think right now the only active sidequests I have are the Speed Star one, fighting Master Servo again (he's now in his "big arms" form), and protecting a robot parade (that I seemed severely underleveled for given how strong the enemies were and how quickly they wiped out the parade robots).

Re: General gaming superthread
Robo Parade should be left alone till later, because the enemies are too high level for you right now.
But if you want a good sidequest, go talk to the new shopkeeper that shows up after the forest kingdom, then go looking on the first floor of the mall for a flower to activate the sidequest.
