That’s not a bad idea for when I get back up on my feet, financially. Is it as comfortable to hold as the Wii U Pro Controller was? I liked that controller a lot.Fizzbuzz wrote: ↑Wed Mar 28, 2018 7:35 pmI would recommend a Pro Controller, but the D-pad on it isn't the greatest. Apparently it's gone through a couple of hardware revisions to make the D-pad better, but without knowing which is which I think it'd be best to wait on possibly buying one for now.
I say that as someone who owns one. Aside from the D-pad occasionally registering left or right inputs when I press only up or down, it's really great.

Ooh, Perry you should. For a fighter it's pretty fun. It helps the inputs are fairly easy to memorize even though I regularly forget some things. So far my main team is like Gohan/Android 18/Vegeta.

Reminder: ARMS is having another free weekend right now. Download the ARMS Global Testpunch demo in the eShop if you'd like to take part.
One more advantage of the Pro Controller is that it has an insanely long-lasting battery. I only have to plug mine back in maybe every 20 hours or so, if that. If you tend to play docked a whole lot, that might be more convenient for you vs. having to reattach the Joy-Cons often.
I actually never used that one. I had a Classic Controller way back on my Wii, so if I really needed a more conventional controller other than the GamePad, I always had that on hand for the Wii U.

My playtime is split about 50/50 between handheld and docked mode, but I’d still like to use something other than the default grip in docked mode, for sure. Good battery life is definitely a plus. Re: General gaming superthread
I'd rank the Switch's Pro Controller as slightly below the Wii U's one (worse D-pad, slightly bigger and squidgier buttons, but wider triggers and a more traditional layout - which can be a plus or minus depending on the game). It does come with an official Nintendo USB-C cable, which is nice since the latest Switch firmware apparently bricks the console if used with third party USB-C accessories.
There are a few options if you don't want to shell out for a Switch Pro Controller right now, if you don't need gyro aiming/amiibo support/the capture button.
- One of the updates last year added support for some Wii U wired pads as well as Switch branded ones, and subsequently the GC adapter is also supported if you have one laying around. (Though if the objective is a more comfortable D-pad, the GC adapter may not be the best choice. )
- Most 8Bitdo controllers have been updated with support for connecting to the Switch wirelessly.
- There is a Mayflash adapter that will allow other wireless controllers to connect to the Switch, including the Wii U Pro Controller, and the DualShock 4 (the latter even supports gyro, if less accurately, going by reviews). You do need to trick the Switch into seeing the adapter as a wired pad.

Re: General gaming superthread
Rummage sale season has officially begun here, and it's off to a good start so far. Found a DSi with a carrying case and six games still in its pouches for $10. Of which I will only be keeping New Super Mario Bros. and Sonic Classic Collection. (Did you know the show VicTORIous had a tie-in game? I sure didn't.) I have no idea how to connect the thing to my wi-fi. Looks like it needs me to do some weird syncing thing with the router? I don't know how to do that.

If your Wi-Fi is a WPA2 Personal network (hint: at this point, it likely is), you need to go to Advanced Settings to set it up.
However, there isn't much point. The online connection for most games shut down a few years ago. The DSi Shop shut down last year. And original DS games can't use a WPA2 network, so even if you found an online game that worked (possibly one of the Call of Duty games? They set up their own servers for the Wii versions, which are still online last time I checked), you would have to downgrade your router's security just to use it.

I forgot to thank you & Fizz for your input, but I traded some stuff to Amazon and ended up having enough credit to get the official Switch Pro controller. I was leaning towards the Mayflash or the 8bitdo, but wanted to avoid any future compatibility issues.Venusy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 31, 2018 4:34 amI'd rank the Switch's Pro Controller as slightly below the Wii U's one (worse D-pad, slightly bigger and squidgier buttons, but wider triggers and a more traditional layout - which can be a plus or minus depending on the game). It definitely has squidgier buttons than the Wii U Pro, but they are a bit firmer than what the Joycons have, so that’s okay. I don’t know if they’ve fixed the d-pad in newer revisions, but up and down register properly as up and down. So maybe they have fixed it. The analog sticks are really good and it’s very comfortable to hold.
I’m really happy with it overall.

Still playing Celeste. I got the winged golden strawberry in 1-A, which you earn by beating the level without dashing. The hardest part for me wasn’t the pixel-perfect spike jumps for some reason. It was the wall jumping near the very end of the level.
I have no idea how I managed to pull it off but I’m proud that I did

Re: General gaming superthread
Finished Far Cry 5 last night, since I got a free copy of it with an SSD purchase.
From a gameplay perspective, it's a really fun, accessible mix of action and stealth. The stealth is more forgiving than a lot of games, and you always have allies if things go south. You get a lot of tools, and there's stuff like a combination of a wingsuit plus being airdropped into locations to get around quickly.
But politically, tonally? It's a complete mess. You are a deputy of an unnamed American law enforcement agency. There's no option to arrest any of the people you fight, there's only like one weapon that might be non-lethal (as well as some of the melee takedowns, but not others).
There's some evidence in flavour text that Ubisoft has done research into the isolation and fear techniques actually used by cults, but mostly? Two different forms of mind control, the player character gets to experience both, which causes themselves and others to do some fucked up things!
The game can't decide whether it wants to be super serious, or if it wants to be Saints Row. And ordinarily I'd think this was a mistake, but I think it's intentional here - Ubisoft wanted to be everything to everyone. And the result is heavy tonal whiplash - particularly during the finale, but it manifests itself in other places as well. Example:
If you just want to play a goofy game about killing a lot of people with a trained bear at your side, you're going to have to go through at least some of the super serious stuff to do that (particularly as the game has a bad habit of forcing you into story missions at a time you don't want to play them with little warning). And if you want the intrigue of finding out what happens in the story, there aren't enough serious missions in the game for you to get all the Resistance Points you need using them alone (and you really, really won't be happy with the final mission.
Also? Ending spoiler: whichever ending you choose, it's a hell of a downer.

Re: General gaming superthread
I just finished Assassins Creed Origins and both the DLC expansions; spent around 120 hours total in the game completing everything. I don't know the last time I spent that much time in a single player-only game but they absolutely nailed almost everything with the game.
Also goddamn it is one of the prettiest games I've ever played.
I didn't care for all the weapons that you looted from every pot that was sitting there whenever you turned around but thankfully I never hit an inventory limit so once I got some gold weapons I could just stick with them for most of the way through and ignore everything else.

I just finished playing through Minit, which is a fun, cute, and charming little indie game that I'd recommend checking out if you haven't. It's sort of like... Zelda meets WarioWare? The basic goal of the game is you find a cursed sword that kills you in 60 seconds (hence the game title: Minit) so in those 60 seconds you need to figure out the next step you need to make to progress your journey. The game saves your progress after each item you grab. It's a really cool and neat premise.

So Bungie released a trailer for their upcoming DLC which features an Asian woman in the main story role named Ana Bray. In their previous DLC, Osiris was an old Middle Eastern man.
But, ya know, representation is hard according to Ubisoft.
Don't read the comments. The assholes are already chiming in about keeping politics out of games.

Yeah, it's probably got some similarities to that as well. It's also really short. If you don't go for any of the collectables (like additional hearts, coins, tentacles that a octopus lost, etc.) the game can be beaten in about 20 minutes or less. The graphics are also really cute, sporting a retro black and white style with characters that look like Tomogachis and a sweet soundtrack.

I love Swery and Deadly Premonition is one of my favorite games ever so I backed The Good Life in a heartbeat (I went for the tier to get the limited edition physical run of the game). I really, really hope it gets funded because it looks super cute and charming and I really want to play it.
I'm going to be sad if we live in a world where we can get Detroit: Become Human but not The Good Life.
