If a Microsoft character gets in there I pray it's Banjo-Kazooie. They have a much more meaningful history with Nintendo than the Minecraft dude does and people have been wanting them in Smash Bros. ever since the original game. That and the Xbox CEO has even said he'd love to work out something to get Banjo in Smash. A Minecraft STAGE maybe or a Creeper assist trophy would be fine, but I'd be bummed if we're able to get a the rare opportunity to get a Microsoft character and it ends up being the Minecraft dude.

Also, Ms. Pac-Man could be a Pac-Man echo fighter.

So, one of the song names changed on the official Smash Bros. YouTube page and it seems to have leaked a new fighter. It was ruined for me but if you want to avoid spoilers I'll tag it but it sounds like tomorrow we'll be seeing...

Okay, so, maybe this is just wishful thinking but... Inkling, Chrom, and K. Rool were all Mii Fighter costumes in Smash 4. The three of them are now playable fighters in the game. Geno also had a Mii Fighter costume in Smash 4.

Alright gonna throw out some echo fighter predictions because they could honestly make a crazy amount of them:

Shadow as an echo of Sonic

Isabelle as an echo of Villager (she has been strangely absent from any assist trophy showcases)
Ken or Akuma as an echo of Ryu
Proto Man as an echo of Mega Man (just swap the two out in the Final Smash)

Funky Kong as an echo of Donkey Kong

Best Buy Canada has leaked that you'll be able to unlock Ridley, Inkling, and probably Wolf quickly by scanning their respective amiibo - which makes sense, it'd be weird having your amiibo be able to fight as them when you still can't select the character. So I can unlock most of the roster very quickly.

Nintendo is bringing Smash Ultimate demos to certain Best Buy stores every weekend this month and into the first week of October. If you live in a big American city and are ready to put up with what'll surely be a huge-ass line, you could give it a try.

I bet this news was supposed to go out in the cancelled Nintendo Direct.

Here's the lowdown:

• Ken and Incenroar are the final additions to the roster.
• Spirits replace Trophies, where you collect Spirits of all sorts of characters from various games to equip to the fighters as buffs in Spirits mode. you collect them, level them up, and what not
• Spirits mode is sort of like Event Battle from Melee, where you have these unique gimmick fights where you're going up against fighters that act and have special conditions based on the spirit they have
• Online no longer has For Play and For Glory, instead matchmaking is based on what your preferred rules are. Spectating and making friend lobbies is still a thing.
• They're still trying to push the phone app, and there's going to be a unique Smash World app, apparently?
• 59 different assist trophies in the game. These include: the Wily Capsule from Megaman 7, Yuri Kokukata from Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, Vince from Art Academy, the Thwomp from the Mario series, and Guile from Street Fighter
• Assist Trophies that can be KO'd can also be KO'd by their summoner, to prevent opponents from scoring a point off of them.
• 100 Man Smash is back as Century Smash, All-Star is back as All-Star Smash and is available from the start of the game. Cruel Smash is also back.
• You can create character specific handicaps in local play. If they're active, a symbol will appear showing the handicap.
• More Mii Fighter costumes and customization.
• DLC is planned, where there will be 5 new packs of content, consisting of 1 new character, 1 new stage, and a selection of new music tracks, expected to be sold at $5.99 USD per pack, or about $25 for the Fighters Pass, which would give you all 5 packs, with a bonus Xenoblade Chronicles 2 mii fighter costume, and I think also some XC2 music? No release date has been announced yet for any of these DLC packs.
• Much like Mewtwo with Smash 4, there will be a DLC character released early next year that will be free for early adopters of Smash Ultimate: Piranha Plant from the Mario series
• Tied in with the Spirits mode will be a brand new Adventure Mode called World of Light.

Do the Japanese lyrics use the word "special" at all? As I was transcribing the English lyrics, the use of "the ultimate fight" seemed a bit too referential to the game's English title to be just a coincidence.

it'll provide you with official lyrics for both the English and Japanese versions of Lifelight. I ran the Japanese lyrics through Google translate, and I'm not seeing the word "special" in there anywhere, so I imagine the "ultimate fight" thing for the English lyrics was done deliberately.

Gonna post a datamine spoiler, since it's weird, and ties back into a discussion earlier in the thread:

Jet Force Gemini is listed in the tables with all the other franchises - but there's no content related to it, no spirits or songs. It's been translated properly as well - internally, it's Star Twins (the JP name), but the English string is there as well.

As JFG isn't a big enough franchise for a character by itself, I would have to imagine that either negotiations for Banjo fell through, or he's a potential DLC candidate.
