Re: Hearthstone Thread: How Long Can This Go On?
Yes, in the 60ish games I've bothered to record this season I have encountered 1 (one) warrior, and it was recruit warrior. He had about 40 hp of armor gain cards but he was unable to keep threats on the board consistently so i beat him down with minions.
Warriors that run baku are infinitely worse, yes. Really anything that allows consistent strong health gain is a pain for control priest, which is why an early gul'dan play is about the only way warlock can win the matchup.

Re: Hearthstone Thread: How Long Can This Go On?
Ok I did it
It was interesting. Here are the roughly 75% of my stats that I remembered to record:
Paladin and shaman get utterly crushed by this deck and running into them was an excellent help in gaining ranks. However, there was no deck that I could never beat. I got the hang of fighting control mages towards the end and started beating them; the trick is to break their armor, run them out of sources of elementals until they have a turn where they don't play one, then alex them- their only out is fast armor gain from REALITY WOVEN guy.
Possibly odd warrior would not be beatable played well, but odd warrior is not a real thing that exists, so that was fine. The warriors I did run into were either quest warrior or recruit warrior, both of which were quite beatable.
Also regardless of this deck being quite strong doing this is a huge pain in the ass and I'm probably not going to bother again. Back to sitting at rank 5 each season!

Congrats!
Is that your first time making Legend? I did the legend grind once ages ago, before the Wild/Standard split, and I never felt the urge to do it again.

Yeah, its the first time i've hit legend. I've had the capability for a long time, I'm sure, but I never felt like doing the grind. This season I got to rank 3 just putzing around, and the class and deck style i am best at and like the best is quite strong at the moment, so I decided to go for it. It took me about 50-60 games from that point, i think.

Why is it that every time I Psychic Scream 7 Silver Hand Recruits into my opponent's deck, he will inevitably draw Vinecleaver or Avenging Wrath or something that isn't a SHR and kill me?
As an added bonus, I Psychic Screamed 7 1/1 beasts into my hunter opponent's deck. He played Katrina and out popped King Krush.

I was skimming through the set in Crafting Mode earlier today to read all the flavor text; hers actually references MLP:FiM.

I read this card and yeah it's seriously the worst card. The only way I can think of it being useful is in situations where the opponent is just top decking.

EXPANSION DAY!
Based on the legendaries I opened, I made 3 decks: Deathrattle Rogue, Bomb Hunter, and Tempo Mage. Deathrattle Rogue is by far the most fun to play, as the other two are pretty much just "win before you run out of steam". Necrium Blade is insanely powerful.

Demonic Project is my new favorite card. There are so many brittle combo decks to destroy.

Hey nerds. Lately I've been feeling like playing a card game, and Hearthstone isn't anime and it's easily available on desktop and mobile. I saw that Hearthstone has a referral program, so if one of you (I'll pick randomly if I get multiples) sends me a link for that, I'll sign up and get you some free stuff through it.

Re: Hearthstone Thread: How Long Can This Go On?
Thanks, y'all.
What got me interested was actually the latest WarioWare title, of all things. One of the minigames was a simple card battler. Even though its mechanics mainly boiled down to rock-paper-scissors, I still tasted the strategy of building a deck for a specific purpose and the thrill of drawing just the right card to complete a combo or to finish off an enemy, and I wanted more. I heard Hearthstone had a reputation for being fairly accessible even for people new to the genre or those who aren't big experts on Warcraft lore, so here I am.
I've already done the tutorial and have beaten all the practice mode heroes, but are there any other recommended resources for new players? The SA thread recommended these videos and I've watched all of them a couple times now, and even if they're a little old the strategic principles he discusses still all seem to be sound.

Re: Hearthstone Thread: How Long Can This Go On?
First you should get all the heroes to level 10 to unlock all the basic cards. Then start aiming towards making a single deck that can win games. For a low-dust beginner deck, I would recommend something like Zoolock. It has 1 Legendary (Keleseth) and 0 Epics.Fizzbuzz wrote: ↑Mon Aug 20, 2018 10:11 amI've already done the tutorial and have beaten all the practice mode heroes, but are there any other recommended resources for new players? Also, what's your battle tag so I can add you as a friend?

Re: Hearthstone Thread: How Long Can This Go On?
Speaking of legendaries, I bought the $5 starter set of 10 classic packs and already have four legendaries (pulled Cairne Bloodhoof, Ysera, and a golden Onyxia, plus Grommash Hellscream from the starter set's guaranteed legendary minion). The schools of thought I saw seemed to vary from never dusting non-dupes in case they're useful later to dusting them if they can help you get a deck you'll actually play. The latter seems the most sensible, but hopefully I'm not thinking that just because I got lucky with my pulls or anything.
I haven't touched Battle.net ever since I played Diablo 2 pre-expansion, so things have definitely changed between then and now. But I'm getting it set up, and my BattleTag is Fizzbuzz#11426. I'll go add ponygoons shortly.

I added you!
You can dust Golden Onyxia and get a legendary of your choice for whatever deck you want to play. It's not used very often in the current meta.

Another option is to just craft Whizbang and you get access to 18 different decks

Re: Hearthstone Thread: How Long Can This Go On?
Fizzbuzz, you've been added!
One of the best things I ever did was to disenchant everything for Rogue and Warrior. I don't like those classes, and doing that let me make my favorite deck - mech priest. And another deck that actually won games. I had been collecting cards for so long and felt like I'd never be able to play a deck I enjoyed. And you get the common ones back pretty fast through random packs, so it's not a big worry! I'd say disenchant the Onyxia and hold onto the dust for something that you want to try out, and after playing all the heroes enough for you, see if there are a few classes that you really dislike playing, and get rid of their class cards. Maybe even some common cards that don't see play, especially the Rares/Epics.
But really, forget all of this "constructed" stuff, play Arena! It's a new deck every time, and since it's limited you have to figure out how to play with a sub-optimal deck! If you can maintain a 50% winrate, you get slightly more than you pay, and as a new player your first arena is free!

These puzzles are super fun. Too bad there's pretty much no replayability, unlike the Dungeon Runs and Monster Hunts.

Arena looks fun (and profitable), but I feel like I'd rather not use my free arena run until I've played at least a handful of matches first. Whenever I do try it, though, is there any particular strategy to drafting a deck beyond having a tier list handy and maintaining at least something of a curve?theGECK wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 2:11 pmBut really, forget all of this "constructed" stuff, play Arena! One of the reasons I don't really play hearthstone much anymore is because of arena. When they had that big "here's some new cards you can only play with in arena" I went nope because I really reaaallly don't like arena
On the other hand I love the single player stuff and the puzzle labs are the bomb diggity

Go to Hearth Arena, make an account, and install the app. It will help you draft the best cards for your deck and it will keep your stats. As far as learning the best way to play in Arena, watching Kripparrian, who is in the top 5 Arena players in NA every single month, helped me jump from a 4-win average to a 6-win average.Fizzbuzz wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 5:20 pmArena looks fun (and profitable), but I feel like I'd rather not use my free arena run until I've played at least a handful of matches first. Mirror was the hardest one, especially Zerek. Probably because when playing Hearthstone, you have to calculate lethal, try to clear the board, and try to survive until the next turn all the time, so those puzzles came pretty naturally. Trying to get both sides of the board to match was very different and it hurt my brain.

Giggling Inventor now costs 7 mana instead of 5
Mana Wyrm costs 2 instead of 1 (finally)
Avianna costs 10 instead of 9
Meanwhile, Standard Druid remains untouched.

Who at Blizzard ever thought Giggling Inventor was well designed to share a meta with Rogue Quest for eight months? I guess Mossy Horror goes back under the "useless tech card" banner.

Really they just need to admit that they royally fucked up when making the Rogue quest and just replace it completely.

Goodbye odd paladin, kingsbane rogue, druid, and most importantly, shudderwock. You will not be missed.

Shudderwock is still -good- but yeah it's no longer the OTK combo of ridiculousness it was. This is probably the big nerf that they should have released once the deck became popular but I guess they wanted to wait for some reason.
Level up nerf is also very welcome because odd paladin just had -all- the hero power buffs and it made the deck absolutely ridiculous.
