Pearl is my favorite subject to draw. Hands are not. I mostly download screenshots off of the SU wiki and use them as a reference and try to draw what's on it. It's been a good way to always have something to draw and SU's characters tend to be simple enough for a beginner.

Copying a bunch of stuff you really enjoy is honestly a great way to get started with art because it's harmless self-indulgence and you learn something at the same time!

I think especially your faces are improving quickly. Keep at it.

I remember hearing about how SU is deliberately loose with its character design standards, giving individual storyboard artists a lot of room to draw the characters bigger or smaller or otherwise differently from episode to episode. Has that ever stood out to you as you've been using SU for reference in your first drawings?

I'm thinking of that as compared to how I got started with FiM and how ponies generally appeared extremely consistent in the show due to being made of reusable Flash assets.

While height hasn't really played a part yet for me, I've found the characters tend to be made up of simple shapes and while the show does play it loose, they tend to retain those shapes. Like say Pearl will always be kind of long and gangly and will have that hair of hers (especially the bits that stick out on either side of her face) and a pointy nose. Once you nail down those basics it's easy to keep drawing her, heck, she's become my favorite character to draw and I sometimes use her to unwind after doing the more complicated ones (like the diamonds).

But I think the most important thing for me have been the faces. SU has very simple faces, but they've helped me a lot in getting a feel for the positions of facial features and how the show does expressions.

You keep improving, it's noticable! Nice job!

Keep drawing hands. It sucks but also teaches you so much. Plus, hands are the most expressive part of the body, so they can do a lot of fun things. Note to self: I should also draw more hands.

Thanks! And yeah, hands are hard, but I'll get them eventually.

OK, so I tried drawing Peridot in a pose based of a picture off Steven I had. There's issues, but you gotta start somewhere.

Your art is getting seriously good

but also I think you're best at drawing Cosma. (And I like how your art of her reminds me of new ducktales for some reason)

Foxtail came out fun, you are getting better at poses I'd say.
