I usually remember this episode as less fun than it actually is. Twilight's role in the story is somewhat awkwardly fit in, but seeing early competition between Applejack and Rainbow Dash is extremely enjoyable.

I still think it's weird how this episode called Applejack "the workhorse" so much. Even ignoring how dehumanizing (de-pony-izing?) it sounds, that's still barely a step above fanfic writers referring to the "lavender unicorn" again and again.

I remember a lot of Season One writing being kind of like this. Granted, I find some elements of the writing in Season One to be very charming, but other times the dialogue can be a little awkward (usually when a moral and/or exposition is involved).
