I'm going to say Trixie, for two reasons - first, she's probably the most popular one-shot character from season 1, and second, heel-face turns are generally more interesting than an existing good character becoming a "masked avenger" just because.

However, odds really go with a new one-shot character.

Didn't the director say Trixie wasn't coming back in season 2?

I predict that it's a new character -- when they were doing the scripts for this season, they didn't yet know who was going to be a "fan favorite" to bring back, and fighting crime in a masked getup doesn't seem like the MO of any of the regular ponies save RD herself.

Well, she probably does get pretty bored from time to time. But OTOH, she's easily double the size of the other ponies, making it pretty hard to fool anyone. But then there's various magicks and so on, though I'm still going with one-shot, never to be seen again.

I keep on having so many different ideas as to how this episode could play out. My latest reads far into the word "mysterious." Turning this episode into a game of cluedo / guess who, where many of the mane six are suspected in turn when clues point to them. Dash enlisting the help of Twilight to help find the suspect in a Sherlock/Watson style pairing. Then, when the options have been exhausted, it's a huge, unexpected, scooby doo style reveal

- Fluttershy?
- Derpy?
- Trixie?
- Celestia/Luna?

Or, perhaps the reveal is never made. Instead they learn some other lesson, leaving the mysterious mare do well... ...well, mysterious.

TOTALLY SERIOUS EDIT: Fluttershy could be all "zoiks", with Dash being all "lemme at 'em, lemme at 'em" - Twilight spergs around with thick rimmed glasses on. Rarity wears a fabulous new green necktie. Pinkie just wants snacks.

It's probably going to be a new character, which I'm fine with...but I'm still holding out a small amount of false hope it's going to be Trixie or Gilda, just to see everyone's reaction.

I believe Thiessen somewhat hinted that Trixie wasn't coming back, though did so in a way that didn't 100% say "Trixie is not in season 2". Again, I hold out false hope this was part of a long-term misdirection campaign.

Either way this episode has the potential to be awesome.

Going to have to agree with the settlement that it's probably a one-off pony. However, I'm voting for Scootaloo, just because I think it would make the most hilarious episode, and give Scootaloo some much-needed screentime.

Okay I seriously want to know where you guys are pulling these from. The only time Thiessen has ever mentioned Trixie was that Reddit Q&A thing two months ago. He said, and i'm quoting here: "I do like Trixie, I think there is more to tell with her".

Unless they plan to pull the same thing they did with "Applebuck Season" and "Griffon the Brush-Off" and spend the first third-to-half of the episode setting that up so the rest of the episode makes sense.
