Good original songs inspired by MLP.

Post by XX55XX (?) » Wed Feb 01, 2012 4:05 am

I've been trying to find good, original music inspired by MLP that isn't a dubstep remix. The only really good one I found was this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuMA_D9axKI

Preferably, I would love to see original music with lyrics inspired by MLP. Anyone have anything they wish to share?

EDIT: Found another one, allegedly a Green Day parody:

Sweetiebot's Big Race is a masterpiece.

My personal favorite is also one of the most well known- Pony Swag (aka the only rap song I would willingly listen to)

Wow... Even though I don't really like rap all that much, that was really good. Let's keep it coming.

Plenty gets put up on EqD; they'll usally say whether it's remix, dubstep vs original vocals, parody, or instrumental.

Probably my favorite:

What have I done? Sweet Chaos, what have I done?
Become a beast in the night, Become a God on the run,
And have I fallen so far, And is the hour so late,
That nothing remains but the cry of my hate,
The cries in the dark that nobody hears,
Here where I stand at the turning of years

I am very partial to Nightmare Night and Beyond Her Garden by WoodenToaster, and almost everything by iamnotacleverpony.

You should probably check Pinkie's Brew and Derpy Got Soul by the same guy.

Foozogz has some nice stuff.

Fluttershy's Lament

Pinkie's Lie

I have a playlist of MLP fan music that doesn't offend my ears.

ISMBOFepicly, if you like instrumental rock with guitars:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2XKpm0QZ2s

A parody of Eminem's "Stan" (the video has a download link for the full version with an extra verse)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tk8tDpweJB4

As mentioned above, Foozogz has good stuff; InterrobangPie has some good similar chiptuney stuff (and some stuff that is not). http://www.youtube.com/user/InterrobangPie/videos

I also like this funk-sounding cover of Pinkie's music from the Gala

I can't get that Friendship is Witchcraft song out of my head. It's the best piece of fan music I have ever listened to.

Well Woodentoaster is always good with songs like Nightmare Night, Beyond Her Garden and Rainbow Factory.

I also like Balloons In My Basket, Good ol Days, Cerulean Blue, Discord (The Living Tombstone's Remix) and 20 Percent Cooler, but not quite as much as I like Woodentoasters songs. :)

Like, 100% original? Because, I found some girls singing pony-version covers of real songs. Like, Electric Feel and that 10,000 Butterflies songs.

Aside from his remixes, EurobeatBrony has two original songs based on Nightmare Moon and Discord.

Luna (Dream Mode)

Discord (EuroChaos Mix)

There's also a Luna (Nightmare Mode), which adds an extra bit at the end. I don't really like that version as much.

This seems to be a good time to bring up the MLPMusicArchive project.

Eleven. Gigs. of original and fanmade music. Most of it fanmade. It also has pretty much every background track from the show digitally extracted (with mixed results).
The plus side? Completion. It's got pretty much every bit of fanmade music out there.

The minus side? Quality control. It's got pretty much every bit of fanmade music out there.

That's good to see. Unfortunately, I've listened to enough fan music to know that most of it (like 80%) isn't worth listening to a second time.

Would love to see someone put together an opera piece inspired by MLP, though. That is my holy grail.

Okay, the lines between this thread and this thread are starting to blur.

That being said, here's some electro-swing and a ridiculously chill acoustic song.

Also don't you have to download the whole thing just to get any of it? Or even find out what all's in it? I ran across it when I was looking for a particular remix I wanted, and I have little doubt it's in there, but... yeah.

A lot of my favourites have been mentioned already - I particularly like stuff by Glaze (and the rap remix of Beyond Her Garden is one of my favourite songs at the moment), and NotaCleverPony's music (particularly For the New Lunar Republic).

But some stuff on my playlist not yet mentioned:
Marbl - Rainboom Flight - this is "semi-dubstep" apparently. But original.
Jackleapp/Mic the Microphone - One Trick Pony (this one is rap)
DJG - Creeping Insanity (comes in dubstep and nondubstep versions)
FraGmenTd - Pegadrome - this is about a pegasus race! Gets good past the spoken intro.

A friend released this great Luna-themed EP yesterday. It's hard to classify, but I can say it's firmly not pop music.

I feel like there's a loud-ass sucking noise coming out of the classical section of the fandom, but one person on youtube is trying to fix that. That person is YourEnigma. :-D

Here are a trio of pieces that have very clear ties to the show, yet remain fresh and fun:

Octavia's Triptych :golfclop:

For My Sister :vogue:

Toccata de Parasprite

I don't know that much about classical music, despite how much I listen to it, but I know enough to know that this is good music. The composer's channel also has jazz pieces, but some of those aren't the best (especially The Art of the Dress, where the vocals are pulled from the show and don't exactly fit in with the instrumentals).

Makkon.

Besides what's already been listed, here are a few good songs :
Hymn To The Moon (For The New Lunar Republic vocal remix) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTZE2M0XzU8
And all of her other songs, cause they're all awesome. Every. Single. One.

Kinda pop-rock, which I don't usually enjoy too much, but I'm liking the simplicity and authenticity of this one : Memory Lane by Osoth, as covered by Forest Rain : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_OVYPY2Oe4

Luna's Ruse by Zahqo and Haymaker : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BjO2pXcqJI

Some really weird but surprisingly enjoyable stuff : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXsW9QEE8LY
Checks out his other, more conventional works, he's got a great voice when he actually sings instead of... I don't know what that was.

Same deal : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4Frv3pqRQc
The rapping in the first two minutes could be improved, but the songs really builds up to something spectacular.

Back in the days by Yelling At Cats (MCMIAG remix): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxRAhjiaNA0
