With the advent of the iPad 3/AppleTV 3 and attendant increase in screen resolution for available iTunes media, both seasons of FiM have now been made available in 1080p instead of the horrible unwatchable mere 720p of prehistory.

Anyone who has purchased episodes (or seasons) previously is entitled to download fresh copies in 1080p at no charge, except of course the time and disk space it requires. Note, interestingly, that the new episodes are only around 820 MB each, not a big increase from the 750 MB or so of the 720p episodes—even though the pixel count is much higher and there's noticeably better detail. Here's Ars Technica digging into how/why this is possible.

Anyway, this thread is to request high-definition screenshots. Please post a normal-res version of what you're looking for, along with a description or timecode if it's in any way not obvious. Anyone who has downloaded the HD eps is welcome to fulfill requests!

Thread rules: don't post the full-resolution images directly inline! We don't want the thread to become un-loadable. Full-size PNGs can run to 4MB or more (though optimization can help). Because of the 2MB limit on attachments on the forum, I suggest using an offsite file sharing site like Dropbox or Minus and providing a direct URL to the file. It'd be a good idea to include a low-res shot of what the screenshot looks like, inline in the post.

Edit 3/18/2012: It appears that the 1080p-ification of S2 is not yet complete. This is the list as of today of what's still only in 720p:

The darn intro is consistently the busiest thing in any episode - right when twilight jumps out of the balloon or the bit with the butterflies zipping across the screen.

I hit a wall in picture quality and resolution trying to get a decent copy of this:

Scare crow Octavia is too small on screen not to get eaten up by macro blocks.

E: oh I get it - apple publishes to devices. Devices aren't like a PC which have software decoders and will take anything you throw at them.
Devices like iPad have hardware decoders which will only operate on a limited subset of variants of h.264 (see wiki) - dedicated hardware is also how they can make a device that plays back video non stop for seven hours.
So - new device with new hardware, newly re-encoded 1080p video, pretty purple and pink ponies.

Minus.com handles bigger pictures no sweat. If you can optimize your PNGs, you might be able to reduce anything from zero to half a megabyte or even more, depending on the image, with absolutely no loss in quality. (Note that there's a difference between PNG optimization and PNG compression.)

I ran the above screenshot through optipng and got it down from 2697493 to 2285500 bytes (a 15% decrease). I'll do it for all of them, but I assume/hope there's better optimization to be had in shots with smoother color regions.

Fiddletavia could stand to be optimized some more for av purposes, but the resolution's there now. There's probably enough room to get a good loop of Flappy Cleopatra too.

Seems like there's an odd soft quality to the outlines in that episode (or at least that shot), like there's a Sir Spike Fantasy-esque filter over it or something. Or it might be my imagination.

I know from editing ep 1 footage that at least the pilot is indeed "blurrier", or at least scaled differently from future episodes.

Strangely, Family Appreciation Day doesn't appear to be up in 1080p yet. I'll keep retrying the download (that seems to be the only way to find out)...

I guess they're working on them one by one, and all that fumbuckery with the H&HD leak and the Last Roundup yank-and-replace happened right in the middle of them trying to get the whole lineup updated. No wonder there was confusion.

(No wonder they stopped automatically sending the SD and HD copies at the same time, too. It's a more complicated landscape now.)

It's a zoom, so there are a few different spots to grab it from; here are two of the likeliest frames (one from before the foreground trees have pulled back but with a fair number of dragons still visible, another from the moment after the trees are out of shot so it maximizes the amount of landscape you get to see—that farmland stuff at the bottom is really cool and I hate to lose it).

It looks like they pull from the same set of stock paintbrush vectorizations that they used to make the "zip lines". Either that or they have a custom plugin brush and just paint it in right in Flash. That would be my guess, since they need to make things like pencil drawings on the fly as well with those same qualities.

I just noticed, those trees in the lower right look suspiciously like the ones in the Everfree forest. I guess the forest is closed to Ponyville than I thought :starity:
