I doubt they worry much about their jokes being contrary to official canon. This is a series where sweetie belle is a robot and pinkie pie is a time-travelling orphan. :pinkieshrug:

Well, I mean, if they had left Grannie Smith stay dead, there would be a whole episode thrown away. They have to try to at least stay within range, lest they DO end up cutting off any future episode from being potential video fodder.

This particular loop of Iloveyou-Iloveyou-Iloveyou-lov-lovlovlovyou-you-lov

reminds me of a youtube vid of one of those singing fish, but with a battery that can't deliver sufficient voltage - and well...

I love that as Sweetie-bot is replaying Spike's audition, her eyes lose sync and start blinking one by one.

:bluh: Being sisters is like a rattlesnake. You can have the head of a rattlesnake with its sharp teeth and curious tongue, or the tail of a rattlesnake with its mesmerizing rattle; but only together do you have a whole rattlesnake.
:vogue: And apart, all we are is a screaming mess and a hollow object.

Point one: I love this simile because it's the creepiest exchange in the whole episode, and yet not a word is said about carcasses. There's a lesson in there. Point two: I only just realized that Rarity really is a screaming mess and Sweetie Bell is in fact a hollow object. I didn't realize Rarity was referring to her and her sister there. :v:

I finally got around to watching these last night, and oh my god. The way everybody talks about it I knew they would be good, but I didn't realize how good. Songs that are actually really, really good, pretty funny interpretations of the characters, and a lot of scenes that had me in stitches (Rainbow Dash's cutie mark story and a lot of the Sweetie Bot jokes come to mind). A lot of it is the really great comedic timing I also hadn't realized how many jokes on the forums and IRC were coming from this, so now I can appreciate those more.

I can't stop listening to Sweetie Bot's Big Race and the Gypsy Magic song :ohboy:

I had to download Pinkie's Brew and still can't stop listening to it; it's being recorded an embarrassing number of times in my last.fm. And hey, ragnar, I didn't even get Rarity's self-reference after multiple viewings, thanks for the explanation! I also really, really appreciate the closed-captions provided by the uploader, which revealed even more things I couldn't quite discern from just a few viewings (The children all repeating "Phallic symbol. Phallic symbol." before Cheerilee says that's enough of the national anthem). I thought Youtube was just being spot-on at first, but when I went to Grue's upload of the Art of the Mattress song (also brilliant, I LOVE it, AJ's shocked expression, and the fast-forwarding) it was atrociously subtitled, so I'm guessing Sherclop captioned the videos. Thanks for that!

The subtitles are actually sent in by other people, Sherclop doesn't make them. And no, Youtube auto subtitles are never spot-on. Although I heard they were pretty close for Sweetie-Bot's voice.

Oh, hey! I assume you're the uploader I was talking about. Absolutely no disrespect meant, I just thought it was funny how badly Youtube's algorithm operated on some videos. Thanks for separately uploading those songs, by the way :crack: I heard the same thing about Sweetie Bot.

I just watched these through for the first time. I was ready to write them off as "just okay" but I think the latest episode got me. I liked that it felt like they were doing something with the story that's been set-up in the previous episodes rather than just throwing a bunch of random jokes together, which is really quite impressive. I also really like the extended Pinkie's Brew song. I don't really think this series is "my thing," whatever that means, but good on these guys anyway. I'll probably check out the next one.

Edited to remove additional criticism because ehhhh

We must have similar taste, cause I feel the same way. There's obviously a lot of work and thought put into this series and quite a bit to like about it, and the few times I've seen SherclopPones (both of them?) around here he/she/they seem pretty cool, but...I always find myself a bit underwhelmed by the series. Like, I get where the jokes are supposed to be, the VAs do a nice job, it's well-structured and has developed its own internal consistencies, but I just can't get into it as much as I'd like to.

I kind of get the feeling that the big joke is that Sweetie isn't a hollow object. All the stuff about robots not having souls or feelings or awareness isn't actually true, it's to illustrate contyrast/dramatic irony that Sweetie Bot has more of a soul than any of the other ponies she interacts with, being as she can feel and is motivated by love, loneliness, joy, sorrow, and empathy while Applejack and Rarity and Twilight and Fluttershy are totally selfish borderline sociopaths. Ponies tell each other robots don't have souls so they don't have to acknowledge robots have more soul than they do.

4 and 5 were the ones that did it for me, although I guess I'm the only one who doesn't really like Pinkie's Brew. Having to imitate all the characters is a Herculean task, but the Pinkie impression just sounds like "nasally fan voice" to me.

I agree. My first post in this thread originally included a run-on sentence about how Sweetiebot clearly has a soul. She passes the Turing test, and is aware of being self-aware (I'm pretty sure FiW Rainbow Dash fails both of these metrics). Her motivations are love, affection, empathy and moral principle. Sweetie kind of reminds me of the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz. The narrative says up front that she has no feelings, then emphasizes again and again that out of all the cast members she feels the most deeply. I guess that's the standard approach to portraying robots in fiction.
I think SB became my favorite character at the "Because life is worth protecting" line. A stage 6 judgement on Kholberg's morality scale? In FiW?! Never expected to see that. :allears:

More Pinkie’s Brew on EqD, someone is remixing Sweetie’s Big Race, something happened with Megaupload so I need to fix all our song downloads, Swagberg likely to play Zecora in FiW6 - Ryan Dell to play Pipsqueak (if all goes well), Cmara will be our guest artist (hopefully), got sent high quality version of A Kitten Named Woof without English subs (woohoo!!), more subtitles/credits to deal with (bleh!)

From Griffin's blog.

Swagberg likely to play Zecora in FiW6

Or the stanzas could set a swear word as the rhyme, and then insert another random (or not) rhyming word in its place.

Played it in the background while playing TF2, and noticed some more continuity:

Cute From The Hip:
"Girl with the bow! Are you eating paper again?!"
Neigh, Soul Sister:
"Howdy Sweetie Belle! Wanna eat paper with me?"

Dragone Baby Gone:
"And making waffles in the bounce-house would've worked if Spike didn't have such a weak grip."
Cute From The Hip:
"Celestia says I can't go in bounce-houses anymore."

It seems obvious that Pinkie's portal will play a part in summoning Lord Smooze and that the writers wouldn't be going out on a limb like this if they didn't already have all the footage they need and are just stretching it out with whatever inspires them along the way.

The ignore-the-obvious-rhyme bit has been done to death, but if any series could pull it off for a whole episode's worth of dialog and still be funny, it's this one.

EDIT: Something else I hadn't realized at first. When Diamond Tiara says that the whole class learned their talents "in that explosion", I thought she was referring to some unseen disaster in which they all discovered their talents and used them to escape to safety or whatever, and thought "Man, I wonder if they'll ever bring that up again." Then I realized, wait, no, it's not like that at all — she's talking about a repeat of the sonic rainboom from "The Cutie Mark Chronicles"!
