GANGTAG CONTEST 2: ELECTRIC SCOOTALOO

So after a number of months, it's time once again to add to our ever-increasing fleet of gangtags! These contests have always turned out some great entries, and we've got some great expectations for this round.

THE CATEGORIES

1. REWORK. Punch up the Rainbow Racers! The Racers tag is STILL the most popular on the forums, but there's no denying it's a bit static to represent the most high-speed pony. Entrants into this category have to keep the Rainbow Racers name, but beyond that everything is up to you!

2-4. CREATION. The Cutie Mark Crusaders! Categories 2-4 are Apple Bloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle respectively. We've seen some great Sweetie tags in the past contests, though the best ones were all too big . Now we want to see what you people can do for all three of 'em!

(All entrants making reference to chickens or other similar memes will probably be disqualified. Don't say we didn't warn you.)

5. CREATION. Cheerilee! In honor of her increased role in this season, and generally being an awesome character, Cheerilee is the fifth category. Make us a good tag and we'll do our best to get it up in time for her top-billing debut on the Anniversary, February 14!

6. THE TIMEFRAME. Entrants will be accepted from tonight up until February 11, 2012--that's three weeks time to work on 'em, so while we're giving you plenty of time to work, I'd strongly advise you not wait overlong. In the past, I've seen lots of potential winners just wait too long to get started and then never have anything to show!

Once all the submissions are in, there will be three days of me shouting at my mods to submit votes, you assholes, and then the winners will be announced on the Anniversary, February 14!

THE PRIZES

The five tags we (meaning the Moderation) like the best will be instated as PG gangtags,and the right to wear tags will be handed out willy-nilly to anyone whose entry we really like! I'm passin' 'em out like candy here, folks!

In addition, the winners from each category will be given SECRET PRIZES, so even if you have a tag already, don't feel like you have no reason to participate!

THE RESTRICTIONS

-Animated tags are TOTALLY ALLOWED, and in the case of the Racers category, STRONGLY ENCOURAGED.
-Multiple entries are allowed, but only ONE PER CATEGORY.
-All tags must be 160 PIXELS WIDE AND 40 PIXELS TALL. No more, no less.
-All tags must be AT OR UNDER 20KB IN SIZE.

I have a good idea for the Racers but who knows when I'll get back to my computer. Luckily, the deadline is surely after I get back home, so I'll be one of those last-minute entries we always end up getting. I mean, if I don't get discouraged from the undoubtedly great entries that will have been posted by then already.

Edit: Ha ha I just realized my sig is basically a showcase of my gangtag-making skills. My biggest problem seems to be keeping under filesize restrictions.

Other people have also called for a new Stare Masters tag in the "Whats a Pony Tag?" thread. If you want the reason, I refer you to my signature. I have no ideas, but Redeye would you be accepting replacements on any pre-existing tags if they were really good?

Also, for the record, the odds of any tags being instated of ponies that haven't been given a name in the show are QUITE low.

I think the "Rainbow Racers" text flashed by too quickly and maybe the letters are sliiiightly too close together. At the speed it's at now, the AIN is "Rainbow" just flashes by as a blob unless you watch it for a few cycles

You could do what I did and make it fade out at the end.

I liked the first one better. I think high speed should be a priority for a RD tag. The fast moving rainbowy blob that takes a while to decodify represents RD's character very well. And even if it's hard to read, people of this community will still know it's a RD tag when they see it.

Yeah, the first one feels way too busy for a gangtag. These things are going to be in every thread, I'd rather not have them look like some of the more obnoxious types of Flash ads.

I think if you reduce the amount of time when it's just clouds it would feel more speedy and frantic while still keeping its readability (like, only have the words off for a fraction of a second, ZIP ZIP)

Is it just me, or does this kinda seem like the "Shepard tone" of .gifs? It seems to keep getting faster, but never actually does.

This was my thinking, but seeing it slowed down I think I prefer the improved readability.

There are a few variants on this that I'd like to try: one with Sweetie Belle off to the side, and one with the text in white. If anybody has any suggestions on the font (Kefka) I'm also open to that.

Also: a friend of mine came up with a good name that I couldn't think of a good image for (and I was already 90% done with this one): Hell's Belles. Somebody please give it a good home, thanks.
