I even picked up a "Talking Pinkie Pie Happy Birthday" card to pass on that I was looking for it for a gift

Deception is my greatest tool and with it I can do anything, even tell the truth.

I'll try a different Target later this week if I can.

Dropped by Toys R Us today to see what they had. Must've gotten new stock since they had all the 3-mini sets and white Celestia!

I hit up Target last night and picked up all three mini sets as well as the seven-pack Rainbow Arch of crystal ponies. They also had the "Fashion Style" Shining & Cadance, the Wedding play set (with brushie-size Shining and Cadance), and the push-button talking Cadance. Curiously, they had a box of the three small yarn-mane ponies and as skeptical as they looked in pictures, in person they looked really good. I wanted to get everything new that interested me, but it was a bit too much pony to buy at once. I still need to shelf up all the rest of the non-show ponies I have, although I suppose I could move Blossomforth to the canon shelf now.

Target's website also has a "Crystal Pony Princess" collection with a new version of Luna I hadn't seen mentioned anywhere.

I'm only collecting the mini figurines and the brushable-size toys, so I really hope they sell Cadance and Shining Armor separately from the wedding castle. $35 is too much to swallow for two brushables. Fashion style Shining Armor has the best mohawk, though, and I love his eyes. "Oh boy, here we go: I'm a toy now."

Awesome, send me a PM and we can discuss payment (I'd prefer Paypal).

Also, I stopped by my own Local Target today, and discovered they have both the entire current line of 5" Plushies (the stranded mane styles don't look nearly as bad in person as they did on the leaked pic, but solid hair would still have been preferable) for only $5 each, and more importantly they had BLIND BAGS! :awesomedash: I'm going to go back tomorrow with that sheet of bag numbers (once I can dig it up) to see if I can't get a Roseluck and Firecracker Burst to compliment my collection. And maybe pick up one of those plushies (damn you ponies, cute, small, and hugable marshmellow versions of yourselves for only $5 each? I know there are rumors of larger 10" due in the future, but I'm not sure I can resist getting a chibi-Sparkle of my own...)

A size comparison from the MLP:FIM wiki on the three pony toy sizes for G4:

Brushies are the middle size class, Fashion Style (I.E. Derpy) are the largest ones.

Welp, I'm now the owner of two of the technicolor-linguine-haired mini-plushes. I have a Twilight :excite: and (of course) a Pinkie. They were so cute up close, and at $5 I figured "why not." Rainbow Dash was already sold out.

I also bought the Apple Family set so I could get Big Macintosh and Granny Smith to keep AJ company. :twasnothin:

I agree with this sentiment. I'm just really not into the hairy ones, they collect dust too easily and styling the mane in more showaccurate ways is just so bothersome. I enjoy the solid hair figurines that came out so far, I just wish there were bigger ones (or that they would at least finish up the mane 6 set of the existing ones)

Probably the only brushable I would actually enjoy would be a brushable Discord, but since I don't think Hasbro is going to appeal to the goddang-I-love-villains-with-beards-and-I-want-to-brush-said-beards market, I'm not holding my breath.

Brushie Discord? No, talking Discord is what I want. And for maximum chaos, have him read from the "wrong" script... :gotcha:

Image "My wings are so pretty!"
Image "I'm a princess! Are you a princess too?"
Image "Warning: choking hazard - small parts. Not for children under 3 years. Made in China."

Still, that would take a level of self awareness from the toy department that hasn't been seen before - they haven't yet progressed to the level of toys mocking toys yet (don't know if they ever did that with Transformers). :pinkieshrug:

(also echoing the :wantitneedit: for solid fashion style ones)

Haven't seen this posted anywhere yet, but the card backgrounds that come with the 3 pony sets have a couple of ponies on them (they're folded behind). The Cloudsdale one has Celestia, and Scootaloo flying.
Unfortunately Scootaloo....

So I went back to Target, list of codes in-hand, and probably spent like 15 minutes looking at 20-something bags to make sure I got the ones I wanted. No Roseluck, but I managed to find the other three blindbags that I wanted: Minty (part of an in-joke with a friend who is obsessed with everything Tabitha St. Germain and whose current pony holy grail is the mysterious G4 Minty brushie prototype), Lilly Blossom (stand-in for Derpy until they make a small brushie), and Firecracker Burst (just thought she looked cool). I also lost all my willpower and bought the last Twilight Plushie as well.

Oh, and in addition to all that, the Rainbow Blindbag set (the crystal molded blindbags for those who don't know what it is) was out on the shelf as well, but one thing I immediately noticed is that Big Mac's cutie mark is wrong. It's some kind of super-nova like star explosion kinda thing, not an apple sliced in half.

EDIT: and in other news, I feel like strangling somebody;

I would think it's obvious since this pony is bright green and not red, but that's not Big Mac. The back of the box names him "Emerald Rays".

Apparently there's a Zecora toy?

I haven't seen this posted here, just thought I'd mention it:

Image

It was for sale at the SDCC Toys R Us booth and it's said to be available next month or something at Toys R Us's for $10.

Oh yeah, earlier we were wondering if Zecora was completely painted on both sides, or if they cheated on some detail, the way Nightmare Moon's sky-blob covers her entire rear but is missing the moon on one side. Seeing that a different leg is raised in each of those images, though, I'd say one of the photographs must have been mirrored. :facehoof:

The local Walmarts aren't going to carry blind bags any more, and they already sold out of the posters before they were even supposed to be out on the floor. :unenthused: On the bright side, it means not having to shop at Walmart, at least.

I don't know if it's cutting corners or consistency.

Those aren't Faust's designs, right? I suppose Scoots was drawn by the same artist as Celestia. They're probably in the same folder in whatever asset management system they use. It doesn't look like fan art.

As an aside - this is the first show outside of pokemon in the early 2000's that I've ever paid any attention to.
And even back then it was very clear that there were was a definite dividing line between the art that came out of Gamefreak, the art that came from Nintendo, and the art that came from the studio that did the cartoon.
We might be nerding out over minutia, but, I think every franchise like this has issues.

I like Scootaloo on the top.

Yeah, that isn't fan-art; it's from a set of non-Faust concept art that used her characters but not strictly her designs. I don't think we ever found out the exact timeline, but at least it's "official".

I wouldn't be surprised if there were some issues with union rules at play. People who create art assets for the show are employed as animators, not designers for Hasbro's packaging; therefore their work is not allowed to be used in that way.

I'm not sure if that's right, given that show assets are used on pretty much every other piece of merchandise - from the WLF tees, to the trading card binder (plus the cards themselves), to the recent posters. :pinkieshrug: There's also things like the German CDs and the second SDCC poster mixing show assets and clip-art (including that Scootaloo vector in the SDCC one).

I'd guess it's a case of Hasbro being a very large company, and some departments/external licensees just caring less than the other ones - even when that lack of care might actually take more effort for less reusable assets. I hadn't really looked at the the cover of the Royal Pony Wedding DVD before, but yep, it's clear they just edited the dresses onto the clip-art, which still looks bad compared to the show-derived Shining Armour and Cadence stock picture. :-/
