Let me recant the story to you of... Fartin' Luna

This morning I made the trek from the Marriott down to the Holiday Inn to try and catch the VA panel live and in person. When I got there the line was practically wrapped around the building and not being all fancy like Willsun (who has a press badge) realized the futility of staying in line. I then walked back (1/4 UP a hill) to the Marriott and got into the Live Stream room. I met up with Ixnay on the way back as well so we watched together.

Directly in front of us rather tall guy who was cosplaying Princes Luna sits in front of us. It doesn't really bother me too much, I mean that's about what I expect at an event like this. The worst part was that he was rather tall and I had to tilt myself a little to see the screen. That's when I heard it...

fart...

Hrm. I was confused at first. I thought perhaps that I had really not heard what I thought I had heard. Then it happened again...

fart...

Okay, no doubt about what it was that time. This dude is totally farting it up right next to a bunch of other people. Maybe he didn't know he was doing it. Oh wait, he's shifting around in his chair...

fart...

Damn. I'm stuck behind Fartin' Luna....

He did eventually get up (and put his heels on) and leave for what I presume was a trip to the restroom. Oh well, having fun at the con just the same.

$1120 ponygoons :psygum:

Electric Pony, Bloodwulfe, and myself managed to spend that much combined at the charity auction.

I wound up with this statue for $140 after the other two guys won auctions and were pressuring me to get something. I couldn't really tell what it was, which is probably not a great strategy to employ at auctions! :facehoof: I thought it was just a sort-of large RD statue, but it turned out to also have an internet meme in there.

Oh well, all the money goes to charity so it's all good. :chillin:

Cooling off at home. I am 15 years too old for a friggin Pony rave. Misc Thoughts:

Saw Dusty Katt (aka the manliest of bronies) at the 7-Eleven :haw: wish I had something to say other than Hay you walked right by me sometime late Sunday at Bronycon outside the hotel in the clicking July heat.

Today is a lovely Rain Town appropriate 70F / 20C. It's amazing what the weather does for your mood.

At 13 coins restaurant near Seatac "Yes, Octavia lives near the Vienna Beef HotDog Factory" :iamapony: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago-style_hot_dog cased, pickle spear onions tomato celery salt S. Rosens poppy seed bun, I'm not religious about it, no ketchup, because it's overly sweet where you want savory and salty.
blah blah blah :speakest:

Beware of who you talk to - so - Bronycon July at the Outback restaurant - there was a guy with a giant Scootaloo doll on his back. I mentioned this and the guy who was across the table from me showed off a pic of said Scoots in the outback.
He was there on the exact same time on the exact same day and we met again, on the other side of the continent. :-I :scootawoo:

Nowhere NEAR as crowded as Bronycon July much less January.

Re: Storyboarder panel: Shut up and take my money! :facehoof:
I wished I could thank the boarders for putting up a few sample boards of some early episodes. I wanted to ask about the visual language they appear to use to convey camera movement, character movement etc to hand off to the animators to turn stills into motion and how that's developed.

Got to meet Pixel Kitties's husband ... "Mr Kitties" ... who is incredibly normal looking while Pixel Kitties is flamboyant.
JJ was there and there was hardly any line. I wonder how many artists are local vs. flying for 5 hours.

750 people at this convention.

The guy who was handling the badges looked like he had been through hell on Friday and it was a big strain on him to do one last badge at 8:40 PM after having done this for 16 hours.
But my badge name was (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ <- this thing
And he laughed his ass off and said he wanted to meet the guy that did that. Just happy to brighten up your day. :allears:

There has to be a book: Con Running for Dummies, though. Or at least some way to make the running of a < 1000 person con easier.

Half the people at Ponies Anthology hadn't seen it beforehand, by a show of hands :wat: not so much out and out cheering like in July. Same show different crowd. Eh.

Michelle Creber's set at Ponystock was really fun! :allright: Not that we didn't already know, but the girl can sing. She also showed off a music video she made for a song called "Spies in the Night," which was pretty neat.

drunkill wrote:Near the end of the VA Q&A panel a little girl dressed as Daring Doo got scared when about to ask a question. Awwww :modesty:

Hopefully she gets to talk to the VAs later or the question is relayed.

Spotted elsewhere: "Apparently after the girl ran off, Nicole Oliver approached her father and offered to spend some time with them in a less stressful setting. I don't know if he took her up on it, but that's pretty awesome of her." While watching the livestream, I noticed that Nicole Oliver left the table for a little bit after the girl's question attempt, so I can totally believe this. :3:

I woke up early just so I could see Mandopony, Acousticbrony and then Michelle. They all rocked so hard! Can't wait to see them on YouTube again. :yay:
And are the projecting screens cursed or what? It refused to drop when they wanted to show the music video, it refused to roll back up after the FiW short...

Oh yeah, I forgot the camera couldn't see it, but Nicole immediately left the stage after the girl went off to cry and they sat her down on the front row to the right and Nicole spent the rest of the time talking and consoling the girl. It was really sweet. The girl was also hugging a Celestia plushie the whole time so they got Nicole a sharpie and she signed the plushie for the girl and everything. We were all saying that we really hoped Nicole was doing her Celestia voice the entire time she hugged the girl's shoulder and asked her if everything was alright.

This story keeps getting nicer. Nicole is so awesome. :allears: Scratch that, all the show people are awesome, apparently they keep hanging around and doing stuff, they must be having the time of their lives.

- They love all the CMCs memes.
- They've come up with a new handshake called a "bro pinkie" for people who can't' do "brohoofs" (Claire cites babies and short people). It's like a chest bump but with pinkies.
- Claire's voice cracks aren't done on purpose, that's just how her voice is. :3:
- The girls came up with some OCs on the spot. Expect them to be drawn shortly.
- Michelle Creber performed the burp for Apple Bloom in Sisterhooves Social.
- They seem to be having a really great time.

I'm sure I missed some but I'm sure it will be up on YouTube soon.

It's kinda :allears: also they care enough about bro hoofs to come up with an alternative, even with the :nngh:-ness of them.

One of my friends went to Everfree and had Hotdiggitydemon do a few sketches for him.

For this first one, my friend asked him to draw "Rainbow Dash doing something horrible"

The second one is DJ Pon3 and her bass cannon

And apparently he had a third one done just for me and he's gonna mail it to me. I'll scan and post it when I get it! :awesomedash:

I went into Everfree being pretty cynical about the whole thing, and the initial registration fiasco almost solidified that for me. But then things worked out and I had fun hanging with ponygoons people. :chillin:

Also, a week ago my comic-con Derpy was the only physical pony thing I owned. Then Everfree happened, and welp :pinkieshrug:

BUCK was my first convention ever, and wow. Day 1 was good, though as mentioned, I seemed to spend a fair amount of it queuing. But yesterday? Yesterday was amazing. I did things that I'd never even dreamed of doing before! :yay:

Only regrets are:
-Perry's lost phone and me having to leave early for the train on both days. Next time, I'll get a hotel or something, because doing what I did is stupid (why yes i would totally love to spend five hours a day either on a train, or waiting for one :v:).
-Not buying more merch. Damn my lack of money/being a cheapskate with what I do have! :argh: I'd at least have put a bid in for the full size Crackle's cousin costume if I had any faith in my ability to get it home (though I had to leave before they actually allowed people to take it), it really should have gone for a lot more than it did. Still, would have liked if they had actually rotated out the vendors on day 2.
-The lack of John de Lancie wasn't as big an issue as I'd feared, but I really wish more of you could have been here. I mean, I can't be the only British Ponygoon, right? :smirk: (Or did you all fly out to EFNW instead?)
-Some slight worries about people from work seeing things when they get uploaded to Facebook or YouTube. :modesty:
-EDIT: Also, not getting the 20% Cooler ticket to queuejump.

Still, it was fun, and not only do I want to go back next year, I do now kind of want to go to some of the international ones as well. :allears:

And now to face work on very little sleep and with my head still pounding. :gotcha:

Writeup from my perspective on whatever I can remember.

Friday:
  • Failing to sleep the night before, I arrive in Seattle with around 2 hours of sleep on the plane. Whatever!
  • Topshot and I set our bags for holding at our hotel and go up to the Marriot for badges and registration. The con was basically held at 2 hotels which are a block away from each other. The Holiday Inn was where I stayed and had most of the main panels on the 12th floor, dances/raves, and art & crafts were held and was downhill. The Marriot was where the dealer's hall, autographs, and gaming were held and was the one uphill. Thankfully they offered shuttle buses between the two places even if the walk isn't that bad (especially going downhill).
  • We are shoved around to rooms full of other people waiting to get badges similar to internment camps because they are printing badges for each person individually as they go up.
  • I meet and take a photo with Peter New (Big Macintosh) while we waited in a false line somwhere. http://i.imgur.com/eHXmE.jpg
  • We also see Max Gilardi (hotdiggitydemon) with his table in the hall. He looks like someone you wouldn't want to mess with in real life, but he seemed pretty mellow.
  • A few months ago I promised Jenny of FiW that I'd gift her a Crackle plushie. I run into her and Griffin and let Jenny know that her gift was forthcoming and etc., so I was saving it until their panel later in the day.
  • There was some cowboy staffer who kept denying people to line up to try to get badges so that people can wait without order in giant rooms. I said fuck it and snuck in ahead of him while another small group of people was allowed up. No one cared and the cowboy guy didn't see me. This is like noon by now and all events had been pushed back.
  • Everything was going fine...until I saw Jenny was getting her badge at the front and was being hounded by a brony. He's exactly how you'd imagine a fat, gross brony would look like, and upon finding out who she was, wanted to get her phone number and after Jenny politely deflected it, he asked her for her full name to add her on Facebook. At this point I just cut in and stepped between them to give the plushie to her so she'd have an excuse to get away. After she gushed and we took a photo, I told her I didn't want to keep her if she had to go somewhere (code for "GET AWAY WHILE YOU CAN") so her and Griff left while the fat brony asked Jenny to turn her badge around so he can see her full name. Anyway, gift exchange picture here. http://i.imgur.com/RtI3x.jpg (fyi, no, the guy with the fedora in the back wasn't the brony I was talking about.)
  • Right before I get my badge, they announce that Friday is all badge-exempt. Anyone can attend if they want. Luckily, this meant lazy people just left registration for tomorrow and allowed a few other friends to get their badges easier.
  • We go check out the wares at the dealer's hall and it was just a trip to see a room full of brightly colored merchandise. It was in here that Claire Corlett (Sweetie Belle) and her mom were shopping around. When they first came in, I was near the entrance with everyone and made eye contact with her and I wasn't sure whether it was her or not. When she came around again, I asked her for a photograph. http://i.imgur.com/G3f1H.jpg Then afterwards I got a weird bit of inspiration and talked shop with Claire's mother about setting up an interview. Awesome!
  • Eventually we leave the dealer's hall as I try to steel myself for an interview with Claire right before she has to go to her movie Smart Cookies' premiere. We meet up and everything goes well...until we realize that the beginning of the interview was cut off from being recorded! And this was after they left! More on this later.
  • We finally go check into our hotel rooms when 3pm hits and go rest.
  • We go visit Kefka at his table. It was also here that I catch Claire's mother about my recording snafu and to my surprise, agrees to redo it on Saturday!
  • Somehow we accrue a big group to go see the Friendship is Witchcraft panel. Really fun! I went ahead and asked Jenny near the end of the Q&A what lines she used for all the characters as she prepares to record lines for them (since she mentions she does this in her interview with EverFree Radio).
  • Most of us part ways for dinner or to go to other panels and events. My group, including Kefka, head to downtown Seattle on their rail system to eat at a Mexican diner/bar. The wait took forever, but eventually we got in to devour food in our starving haze and quaff drinks.
  • The night ended with resorting to sniff Gatorade and getting back to the hotel around 1am.

Ack, it got late. I'm tired and need sleep from my first night back from the con. Will post the other days later. Also, I know I popped in a few times to IRC when I had downtime at the con, so feel free to ask me anything I might have mentioned and just forgot about. Or just anything in general really.

e: All those people I met through the con, let me know when and where I met you! Everything was a crazy blur and I want to put names to memories.
