Easy as spending ~$200-600 depending on time of day and airline and sitting on a plane for 4 hours from YVR* to JFK or LGA.
And then public transport - two trains and a bus from JFK - all of which is fully described on Google maps. About 8 hours from my apartment near Seattle to getting to the hotel.

So your answer is: Easy! All you need is time and money.
:) it's not very far just move your little rump. With a hop skip and a jump!

I don't know what the visa situation is like :flutterdear: my mom has family in a not particularly liked country and they can't visit.

* Canadian airport codes are weird.

Of course, none of this apparent convienence will assuage the feeling of "Wwwwwwwwwwwhat the fuck am I doing here?" once you finally get there. :cheese:

A friend and I were toying with the idea of doing a NY trip around that time, and with De Lancie on board, there really is no question about it now. I haven't RSVP'd yet, but hopefully I can spare the cash for it soon before they hit capacity.

Just for the record, while the number keeps growing, they're now capped at like 4000 which...they're growing pretty fast, but I don't know if they're gonna reach that.

So you probably don't have to worry TOO much about it reaching capacity too quickly if you're thinking about it.

This, but more so. It's not like I'm going, but I think anyone at the con who wants to rep Ponygoons should thoroughly overdress. I'm talking job interview clothes. Men: suit, no hat, tie or bowtie. Women: Suit, no hat, hair in a bun. A buttonhole flower for everyone, so no one looks like a hotel staff member who got lost in the crowd.
It'd make us all look like totally awesome assholes. Forum reputation secured. :yay:

It's in summer, a LARGE number of the people there are students - college or high school. More of them are likely to be free then as opposed to the week after new years.

In any case I'll eat my hat :ohgawd: if they reach 4000.

The thing is I am already paid for Connecticon the same month and only have the vacation time (and only allowed to get 1 summer weekend anyhow!) off a year.

And while the scuttlebutt is they have really borked things up this year its still a general convention for 3 days meaning RPGs and other gaming things. Course I barely even see my friends there and spend most of time going solo anyhow which would be overridden by actually being able to TALK TO PEOPLE I (kind of) KNOW.

Bugger.

But this is twice or more the driving distance from where I am in eastern CT and even being able to potentially get L Faust to sign my copy of Iron Giant and De Lancie to sign my Planescape Torment disk is kind of a balancing out effect. :fluttersmith:

Not to mention I might go to Pax East 1 day if I can give the work day away/call in sick. And money has been kinda tight lately with car and home repair bills.

Bugger.

With so many ponygoons we could get everyone who isn't going to send stuff to the people who are going and everything will get signed if we can spread out the stuff per person. :3:

A few notes on our capacity:

1) We didn't actually max out at 650 last time. We ARTIFICIALLY CAPPED IT at 650. We had another several hundred people at the door. Our final estimate was 800-900. We would have had even more, had we not announced before the day of the con that there will be LIMITED attendance and a LIMITED number of tickets sold at the door, due to venue capacity limits (which ended up being an issue, which is why we are now booked for a venue which can hold 8000, and capping at 4000).

2) It's still January. It's been precisely three weeks since the last con, and we already have over 600. Historically speaking, we always double or triple our RSVP count in the last month before a con. Even if we didn't get a single soul RSVPed between today and May (an impossibility, unless New York City gets hit by an asteroid-- in which case all of this discussion is moot), that would put us at somewhere from 1200 to 2000. However, we've still announced only two Guests of Honour and none of our special appearances by community celebs (which individually don't count for as much as Lauren or John, but which taken together will account for even more).

TL;DR: 2000 is a given. 3000 is likely. 4000 is quite probable.

She has pizza for every meal. Only the royalties from Spike's "ghost writing" keep her afloat financially.

Now that I think about it, everyone in the mane six has a job except Twilight, it seems. Twilight just sits and reads books all day, and the only non-mane six pony we've ever seen visit the library is Cheerilee (and Celestia), so she doesn't seem to have much chance for income there. Maybe Celestia pays for everything, but only what's necessary to avoid economic problems.
