Hey all! I noticed something distressing on the Booru recently...

The most helpful of all ponies, Yellowstar, is not the most popular non-staff OC pony! Nyx, with 30 images, has more images than Yellowstar's 21! :sweetielarm:

In order to rectify this, I am holding a Yellowstar draw-off! Anyone who helps contribute to the ten Bronibooru-worthy images of Yellowstar needed to beat Nyx will be eligible for a Yellowstar gang-tag! (to be created)

You may also contribute and be eligible if you make the Yellowstar gangtag which is chosen for those lucky enough to contribute to the victory of the most helpful pony over an unrightfully popular whelp, or a Yellowstar smiley that I deem worthy of inclusion in the smilies list! (No, the ":yellowstarsay:" one is not good enough!)

Have at it, kids! :awesomedash:

EDIT: Of course, if Nyx gets more images, the number of images needed for you guys to win that gangtag only increases, so get cracking before some wiseguy uploads all 500 Nyx images on p*booru. :gonkity:

EDIT 2: HARD MODE UNLOCKED: Get Yellowstar into the John de Lancie documentary and you can win that gang tag REGARDLESS of whether Yellowstar passes Nyx on Broni or not.

TL;DR: Win a Yellowstar gangtag by either a) making one of the ten images needed for Yellowstar to pass Nyx on Broni, b) making the Yellowstar gang tag, c) making a Yellowstar smiley I add to the list, or d) getting Yellowstar into the Brony documentary.

Nyx comes from an extremely popular fanfic series, Past Sins. As far as I'm aware, she's not particularly LIKED by goons, but just happens to be the most popular OC overall who, as a result, has more good art drawn of her than any other OC pony.

EDIT: I take that back. Goons generally hate her.

Nyx is an OC from a popular melodrama fanfic that for some reason a lot of people like, and Yellowstar is an OC pony from a weird fancomic who's the 7th element of harmony, apparently. I dunno why the latter is popular. Might be a meme thing, or some weird goony obsession with fancomics of questionable quality. I don't get it, but maybe I'm just an unwashed plebian or something.

Either way, I can't art worth a damn, but I'm curious what will come of this. :allears:

In all seriousness I think Yellowstar is simply popular with us because although she's an unabashed Mary Sue creation, Yellowstar is endearing because of the horrible Spanish-to-English direct translations and the comics have a very simple story without trying to be edgy, dark, or emotional. It's almost kind of innocent like a children's book.

Yellowstar's visual design is also really simple yet appealing, which is probably more a result of the limitations of the character generator it was created on than much of a well thought-out set of choices by the man but he could've done worse.

Yeah that's a good point. There's a good chance he might've wanted to add on black and violet raver highlights with earrings and pierced studs and throw some Kingdom Hearts pants on if he could. I'll give mast88 the benefit of the doubt though and say that he came up with a nice, simple design.

Before you draw Yellowstar, check out the official reference sheet on mast88's deviantart. You don't want to embarrass yourself by drawing her out of proportion or with the wrong colors.
