Pretty much, Minty was from another generation (I forgot which one she first came in on), basically a kinda silly and very clumsy pony who often messes things up in humorous ways.

G3. She has a valley-girl laugh and a thing for socks and making everything green.

Also she's the only character from then to have anything like a fun personality, largely because she shares Rarity's awesome and versatile voice actress.

(And not the G3 "Rarity", who was voiced by Cathy Weseluck/Spike. owmybrain)

Minty was essentially the main character of gen 3, in that she was the only actual character in that entire generation. She was basically just a goofy, clueless fuck-up, which was a step above everyone else's "I have no personality but I really like pink/say 'darling' a lot/whistle all the time."

Losing Minty was just one of the myriad reasons why 3.5 was far, far worse than 3 (not that 3 was any good, mind).

This. After a while, Minty is actually quite endearing. Maybe that's because G3 reduces your brain to the consistency of tapioca, but that's neither here nor there.
