Geez, take your eyes off this thread for a couple days and you miss a bunch of stuff. I need to remember to check it more often.

Also, Weird Al being on the show would be amazing.

Weird Al episode proposal: Pinkie Pie and Andrew W.K. are partying hard, and then Weird Al shows up and there's an accordion-based song. Then all three of them go on an adventure to save Aerosmith for some reason.

Episode concept done. Sounds like a fan fiction but it isn't. Start storyboarding that ASAP MLP writers. :-I

Yeah for some reason staying here on specifically these forums makes people post a large amount of smilies than normal. I just consider it a testament to how much we like all the expressions of the show. :allright:

I started writing this on my phone before I saw the emoticon conversation, and it still fits! :v:

Impromptu work outing to the bus stop:
(kind of long, so I've hidden it)
:vogue: "So, we'll be in Manchester on Thursday and Friday."
:allears: "Really? That's a neat coincidence. I'm going to a convention in Manchester on Saturday and Sunday!"
:rariwhat: "...a convention for what?"
:modesty: "...I'd rather not say."
:-/ "No, come on, you can't say that and then not say what it is."
:nnngh: "It's too embarrassing."
:rariwhat: "Technology?"
:nnngh: "Worse."
:rariwhat: "Games?"
:modesty: "Worse."
:-I "Dungeons & Dragons?"
:modesty: "Worse, but I think it is made by the same company..."
:ohrarity: "What's worse than that?"
:-I "Sci-fi?"
:modesty: "No, but I think there is a separate one of those in Manchester at the same time..."
:-I "Comics?"
:modesty: "Worse."
:-/ "Same company... Magic: The Gathering? Is that the same company? Don't think it is..."
:modesty: "I think it's a subsidiary, but no, worse."
:gonkity: "TELL US!" :twonk:
:flutterdear: "...My Little Pony..."
:excite: "Ooh, you're a brony! I wish I'd have known there was a convention!"
...
:yay:
This is a small, family run business with only a handful of employees, so that was definitely one of the last things I expected to happen with that. :allears:

And yeah, on another forum which has "borrowed" most of the pony smilies from here, maintaining it along with the standard set, I also find myself using the pony ones a lot more than the standard ones - even though the pony ones aren't used outside of the dedicated pony thread. I think it's because they're larger and can easily express a wider range of emotions - I've never seen a non-pony equivalent to Image, for example. But even the ones that do have standard equivalents - Image and :twonk:, for example, or Image and :rainbert: - I'd still much rather use the pony one.

:memories: Let's quiet down please. We have a very important lesson to get to.
Thank you. Today we are going to be talking about cutie marks.
You can all see my cutie mark, can't you? Like all ponies, I wasn't born with a cutie mark. My flank was blank.
Then one day, when I was about your age, I woke up to find that a cutie mark had appeared.
I had decided to become a teacher, and the flowers symbolized my hope that I could help my future students bloom if I nurture them with knowledge. The smiles represented the cheer I hope to bring to my little ponies while they were learning.

:smirk: You know, that story seems like an awful stretch. Blooming students? It sounds like you're covering for something.
:gah: Yeah! Applejack always says "The Most Obvious and Easiest Answer is usually the Right One"

Image ....alright... If my cutie mark wasn't because I wanted to see my students bloom with knowledge, then what was it?
Image :scootawoo: Well you could have been a gardener, or a flower arranger or something. Except... except...
:ohboy: It didn't work out! You were an absolutely terrible at flower gardening and you turned to teaching as a plan B!

Image ...
Image ... ahem

:iamapony: Say, kids, have you ever seen an adult call attention to their or anyone else's cutie mark? Very rarely, correct? Hardly worth noticing!
:nngh: But...

:iamapony: Okiedokie! class dismissed! As for you three, I'd like a three thousand word essay on why you shouldn't interrupt your teacher during class on my desk by next morning! Ta!

Steffan Andrews, one of the composers on FiM has recently started watching the show for the first time. he's been tweeting his thoughts as he watched season 1.

https://twitter.com/orchetect

(His job is done before/seperatly from the animation and he doesn't read the scripts, so it's all new for him)

Steffan Andrews ‏@orchetect

I fail to grasp the the rationale behind a lightning rod needing to be magical.

He started watching on August 13th for future reference.

In fact, the very notion that Twilight kept a library in Canterlot is one that you yourself came up with. It is never stated in the show, and the "library" we see there may very well be Twilight's personal quarters. That's the most common interpretation in the fandom, I might add.

I've always assumed that too, but I don't know where he gets this "most common interpretation" business. I have admittedly been privy to a lot of discussions and debates on the minutiae of the show, and I've never once seen that come up.

In fact, the more I think about it, it does make more sense that that was the school's library and that she had been put in charge of it for some reason. Though I guess if she has her own personal assistant, having her own private library despite being a student isn't really out of the question. Her school has some odd ways of doing things either way.

One of the composers? Why I haven't I heard of him before, and what does he do the Anderson and Ingram don't cover?

:speakest:
Also, I always figured Twilight's Canterlot crib was her own quarters. What makes most sense to me is that it was her room, but she had so many books out on long-term loan that the damn place looked like a messy library. Otherwise, Spike wouldn't have mentioned staying in a library in Ponyville the way he did, and Twilight would've brought a sheeeet-ton of books with her. Library was fullish when she got there, and now it's only full, not holy-shit no room no room can't breathe dead cat rotting under pile of books that fell over full.

Nahh, I always read it as an actual library. It's built like one, with multiple levels and sections and ladders to get to high shelves, also handy lecterns and stuff. Plus horse head busts and giant hourglasses for convenient directorial showing-off!

Besides, the way Twilight had to rush up there when she realized she had more research to do felt more like "gotta get to the library where there are books I haven't even memorized yet" than "gotta get home where my books are, also it has the best picture window view in Canterlot, so suck it rich ponies".

Spike mentioning staying in a library probably would have sounded awesome to her just because she spends so much time in the one back home she may as well live there, so this move sounds like a slam-dunk from a practicality standpoint if nothing else.

But what is Spike doing in the library getting a present ready when they're on a break? I'd say it's a personal study annex on Twilight's accommodation, not a public or official library.

Wait- is the assumption here now that the gift Spike had was from -him- to Moondancer? Because I always assumed that, being a faithful assistant, Spike had gotten it for Twilight to give her as a birthday present.

That's what I always assumed. Twilight didn't seem to give two craps about Moondancer, and her referring to the gift as "fooling around" or whatever seemed to fit in with her just being a terrible friend at that time (to Moondancer and to Spike).
