It's like the perfect product tie-in that you just knew would never happen
edit: I haven't gotten around to rewatching most of season 7 to really form an opinion, but I just want to say The Perfect Pear is one of my favorite episodes of the whole series.
And for those wondering but not wanting to look at any spoilers, the leak is episode synopsis for all of season 8 and emails & documents regarding a future season 9, a second gen4 mlp movie and then Gen 5 after that.
Seven eps are watchable: fully animated (some are not final as some areas / walking cycles look a bit rough, but really it's fine), fully voiced. A couple even have BG music done.
A eighth episode is available audio-only as well.
The type of leaks this show has suffered deserves a saga at this point.
At this point I think the fandom needs to calm the fuck down. It's one thing to want to learn behind-the-scenes production stuff, but repeated cyberattacks targeted at the people who work on this show are a great way to piss those very same people off and scare away any new staff who might have good things to contribute otherwise.
it's hard to say what the motivation is for the hacker. maybe he just loves the thrill of doing it. he could dislike Hasbro for some reason. not enough information to go on.
I don't envy any higher-ups heading into Hasbro/DHX offices tomorrow.
Indeed, a slight tightening of their security and operational procedures may be in order.

I agree highly with both of these. For one, if it's this easy to acquire these leaks, then there must be some way to tighten security around them, or ensure that nothing/much less gets leaked next time. However, a big part of it obviously falls on those in the fandom who continue to leak information. I'm not sure if it has any effect on the viewing figures of the show, but I honestly don't see how it does the show many favors, nor really anybody else favors (since they're getting an unfinished product by shady means only because they didn't want to wait a few months for more pony content). Unless, of course, their motivation is to cause harm to Hasbro, which even then I'm not sure how leaking this sort of information would be directly harmful. They'd have to leak something shady/suspicious if they wanted to harm Hasbro/MLP.
Given the way FiM exists to sell toys, I wonder just how much Hasbro cares about leaks. So long as what's getting leaked is of decent enough quality to generate enough hype to offset any harm caused, I imagine Hasbro wouldn't care quite so much if the show airs in a bit of an odd fashion like this. If things get to the point of my concern, where the staff productivity starts getting hurt due to fear over the leaks, then that's of course a problem.

If less had leaked (especially not those emails regarding the movie leak), I would almost guess that Hasbro might have intentionally leaked the G5 stuff as a trial balloon to see how it plays in the fandom. Regardless, it's been leaked and I'm sure Hasbro will be putting some people on looking at, and compiling reactions to the information.
Huh, I hadn't thought about the leaked G5 concepts. I doubt Hasbro cares quite as much about us (the adult fans) as they do about what kids think, but I'm pretty sure a good number of us also have kids or know people who have kids, so maybe some bits of feedback would bubble back up to Hasbro.

I mean, the movie leaked before it came out on theaters. In 1080p. You'd think that'd be a pretty big deal, even if it's a movie for kids.

If nothing else, I doubt they want leaks of all the behind-the-scenes wrangling over setting the priorities for the next generation. All the attention on certain character decisions can only be bad for them, and especially for the creative team who have to bear the brunt of that criticism, even if it's driven by market research or toy sales or whatever.
Plus, what company is going to want to collaborate with them in the future if they gain a reputation for letting hackers just traipse into their servers and walk off with production materials at will?
