WELP. Australia is airing episode 16 ("Friendship University") on Sunday, August 5. It seems they'll be airing two episodes a week, like last season, meaning it will be well ahead of the US release.
August 11 - Episode 17 - The End in Friend
August 12 - Episode 18 - Yakity-Sax
August 18 - Episode 19 - The Long Road to Friendship (Starlight and Trixie episode) EDIT: I mean On the Road to Friendship

The US will be airing "The End in Friend" on August 18, for reference.

I think "The Long Road to Friendship" will wake up the fandom.
But...
This one's too young

Whoops, got it mixed up with the fanfic. The episode is called "On the Road to Friendship".

Alright, season 8 is going to get even more complicated. Sweden is airing MLP every weekday and they reach episode 21, "A Rockhoof and a Hard Place", on August 22, two days before Australia.

My little pony: Vänskap är magisk
Hårt liv för en Stenhov. När Stenhov, hjältepelaren från det förflutna, har problem att hitta sin plats i den moderna världen försöker Twilight och hennes vänner hjälpa honom hitta sitt nya syfte. Säsong 8. Del 21. [942280]

August 23 shows the next episode, "What Lies Beneath".

My little pony: Vänskap är magisk
Del 22. [328304]

August 24 shows episode 23, "Sounds of Silence", which airs in Australia on August 31, and in the US on September 29.

My little pony: Vänskap är magisk
Del 23. [828250]

The following week isn't available yet, but it's safe to assume Sweden will finish season 8 this month. This means images and plot spoilers will be available before the English dub, and people will have to go off of fan translations for a while.

Sweden is going to finish season 8 by August 29. Likely with no English audio as an option, but nonetheless you know spoilers will rise up. Meanwhile Australia is on pace to be done on September 9 (September 8th in US time).

I will only consider making ep threads if English audio is out with these. Even then I dunno about the picture quality.

I'm sure Discovery Family will somehow air that holiday special first. But boy, what a shitshow. Meanwhile, I will keep ep threads in here instead of archived until after the US release.

Framing this as Discovery Family not caring about scheduling seems strange.

DF cares, at least versus contemporaries like Cartoon Network. FiM's American schedule is really quite reasonable now.

I guess what happened is that Hasbro stopped caring what foreign networks do. The nerds will watch it one way or another, but the domestic toy-buying audience will watch it when DF runs it. Either way, so long as it's getting watched and toy sales are being driven, I suppose Hasbro sees no problem.

Does it? Exclusivity should mean ratings. But I guess Fizz is right that they either don't care about ratings or it's hardly affecting them.

It's more that I don't think Discovery Family has much leverage over how other nations handle airing the show.

The only kids channels outside the US which Discovery owns are the Discovery Kids channels in Latin America (which do air the show). In Sweden, for example, MLP airs on their Nickelodeon channel, and Nine Go airs the show currently in Australia. This differs from Nick, CN and Disney, which own nearly all of their international channels.
