ARGHGHGHGHGHHGH ITS LIKE WATCHING IT ON DIAL UP IN 1997.

In other news, I poked around his youtube page and he has Season 2 episodes played backwards.

Keep in mind that's just a fandub. As far as I know, an official dub will be aired in the spring.

Huh, where's that news from? I'd heard that China and Korea had picked it up, but not Japan.

Japan picked up FIM? Awesomesauce.

What network? I'm betting it's their Cartoon Network station.

Japan doesn't have a Cartoon Network station, their cartoons play irregularly throughout their normal programing.

Also, you ever read their live commentary of them watching the show for the first time. Good stuff.

I can't find where I heard it from. Guess I'll wait for actual confirmation at some point if that ever happens.

Ummm, they do. I should know; I lived in Japan and used to watch CN over there on a regular basis.

It's actually better than the US network because they have much more variety in their programming, ranging from old-school to contemporary, mainstream and art-house (the latter usually airing in midnight), and of course they air anime as well. Basically it has a little bit of everything for everyone.

Sorry to necrobump this thread, but I watched the German dub for the first time in several months. Pinkie's german voice is so similar to the original, it's kinda creepy.

In IRC I once mentioned an april fools joke someone posted on pixiv claiming that there would be an official Japanese airing of FiM, but if you heard something somewhere else that'd be interesting.

Pretty sure season 2 is not gonna air for a while worldwide.

Most probably, they'll use whatever language; which one doesn't matter. The main issue with this is that AB's cutie mark is a fleur-de-lis, which is sort of associated with France. A lesser solution would be to have her speak really fancy, outdated French or somesuch.

Cutie Pox is one of the hardest episodes to translate in general. I had trouble with bowling team names, 4 terms for jumping through hoops, Zecora dialogue and other stuff I don't remember right now. Even MMMystery with all of its alliteration wasn't as bothersome.

There are 30 different languages and dialects in France, aside from the 'Parisian French' that is the national language and best-known. Languedocien, Corsican, etc.

Of course. However, historically, France is a country that refused to even recognize the existence of any of them, and the national language is Standard French. It'd be like representing Italy as a whole through the use of Sardinian.

Anyway, the real answer is she's gonna speak some other language, probably English, German or Italian. This, unfortunately, isn't some grand work of art about issues of national identity; it's a cartoon for kids.

It's not being mean, it's a statement of fact. I doubt they're gonna even notice the fleur-de-lis; they probably just get the script to translate directly and go to the animation when they don't understand something; a character suddenly speaking another language is a frequent device that I doubt they'll interpret as dependent on visual context, as is the case here.

Besides. It's a cartoon.

She should start speaking in ancient Latin. "Vae mihi! Alia nota bella! Quid hoc est? Dicto Latine?!"

That's the best I could do with my 1 year of Latin, sorry.

I hear that the translations are awful (they butchered the names), but other than that, I haven't heard too much about it.

What the fuck? Here's a translation of the current top-voted comment on YouTube for the Latin American dub of Feeling Pinkie Keen:

Trixie, you talentless whore, I'll give you 1 week to take off that Twilight costume and bring her back, starting now!

I had to look up what prompted such a weird and angry remark when I looked at the other comments and, apparently, they changed Twilight's VA that episode. So, that's something.
