Though seeing a scene nearly pulled from Pygmalion/My Fair Lady would be amusing to adults, Family guy's already done it. Perhaps something from The Crucible?

Well, there's also Ticket Master and Swarm of the Century, and most of the other plots are mostly adopted from stock plots. And Family Guy has referenced absolutely everything in the history of art by now, I don't think that matters. I really have no idea how you could adapt The Crucible in a world where magic actually exists, and they already covered that theme (more or less) with Bridle Gossip).

Referenced, yes. Family Guy has referenced everything ten times over. Except ponies.

Pay no attention to that man, Seth, make a sketch where Gary Coleman is at a garden party with Rainbow Dash and Kevin Costner. Unless you have something better to do. Which you don't.

Hey, here's a thing. Remember the Comic Con poster? Apparently a few people blew it up really, really large and vectorized the whole thing and made a huge-ass image out of it.

Part of this involved breaking down the mystery figures in the balloon. There was an odd sequence of events in which the people vectorizing it decided to add some original characters to the balloon (why they did this I have no idea) while they were working on it, leading to some confusion and speculation.

However, they eventually did get to actually vectorizing the correct balloon characters from the original poster:
Image
And included this quote with it:
"It has been confirmed by a member of the show's production staff that one of the characters in the balloon in the original poster is indeed Cherry. Likewise, it has been confirmed by the same production member that the balloon's other occupant is an official character. However, this mystery second character is an as-of-yet unreleased Season 2 pony and cannot be revealed at this time, for legal reasons."

However you want to take all of that is up to you. The sequence of events and random 'source' makes it pretty weird.

They both look kind of steampunkish. Maybe it's related to this new shirt from welovefine:

Now that I think about it, an episode focusing around the ponies visiting a steampunk society would actually be pretty neat.

I'm still half-expecting a cooking duel episode between Applejack and Pinkie Pie.

Actually, there are a bunch of relationships between two of the six friends that haven't been touched on. What would an episode specifically about Rarity and Pinkie Pie be like? Applejack and Fluttershy? Rainbow Dash and Twilight? What about Spike? Right now it seems like he has the most interaction with Twilight and Rairty. So many possiblities for plots.

I'm also waiting and dreading for the episode where they touch on body image, staring Sweetie Belle off course.

Pinkie's baking is ... hit or miss. Mostly miss.

26 episodes are not enough to cover all of this friendship :awesomedash:

It still feels like Pinkie and Fluttershy had an episode about them that was taken out for season 2.
Pinkie sticks up for Fluttershy in Griffon. "I'm a year older than you" hints that they go back a bit.
In 'Over a Barrel' we have Fluttershy glomping Pinkie, Fluttershy dances with Pinkie and Twilight in 'Party of One'.

The filly with the cap is Strict Liability, Celestia's personal attorney. She's coming to Ponyville to make sure the Mane Six all have their stories straight for when they have to stand before the circuit judge in Canterlot, regarding criminal destruction of property complaints on the night of the Grand Galloping Gala.

I've mentioned this in IRC, but I'm hoping for a Twilight episode that shows her using magic for more than just levitating small objects or blinking around or things like that. More like what she did with the Ursa Minor. Something along the lines of a large problem arising that none of the ponies know how to deal with, asking Twilight to help, and Twilight completely loses control of her magic and makes the problem worse and screws everything up. Then everyone has to put their heads together to figure out how to fix both the original problem and the extra stuff that happened because of the loss of control.

I'm just concerned that Twilight's magic will become a cure-all, or just a small gimmick. She's supposed to be the most magically powerful unicorn that Celestia has ever seen; show it off. But it also needs to be shown that she's still young, she's still learning and it's okay to try and fail as long as you accept that and try to get better.

And I want to see her go all glowy eyes and wrecking shit again. Cause that's awesome. :smirk:

I've been thinking the exact same thing. I'm pretty optimistic about where it's going, though.

What I really loved about some of the early episodes (Ticket Master, Boast Busters) was the emphasis on Twilight not really having that good a handle on her magic, and how even being college-age and having been studying it really really intensely for years she still only has a handful of distinct types under her belt (many of which are just plain silly, like mustache spells). One of the best world/character-building moments in Ticket Master was when she accidentally teleported.

Unfortunately as the season went on her magic kinda got deemphasized and trivialized; Dog and Pony Show comes to mind. Also in a lot of episodes it seems like the writers just sort of forgot about her magic altogether even where it would have played a big part (e.g. FPK, though the intro had a good bit). Sure it's not always appropriate to bring it up, and the more sparingly they use it the better, but it's a pretty important part of her character and adds a lot to any scene where they remember to use it (i.e. how she slams the door with a head-motion in Bird in the Hoof).

But the reason I'm optimistic is that it seems like the writers started really getting into their groove toward the end of the season; they were on an upswing quality-wise and introducing plenty of great new concepts. The fact that Cutie Mark Chronicles was right at the end of the season really fills me with confidence, because it's exactly the kind of character-building material I was hoping to see for Twilight. If that's what their brainstorming sessions were giving them as the season ran out, it means they were (and are) thinking along exactly the same lines we are now.

FiM has what I think is potentially the most interesting "magical world" setting since Harry Potter—more interesting in a lot of ways, to me, because magic is something pretty mysterious and unpredictable that only a few ponies really understand to any great degree, and is otherwise just sort of an unknowable force of nature that everyone just sort of interacts with without really understanding it. (It's like us with electricity in the 1800s; good for parlor tricks, and easy to bamboozle people with, but only the Edisons and Teslas of the world could really see what it was made of.) The less they explain about it, while building more character moments around trying to understand it, the better. (And the more ridiculously awesome, badass-cute, eye-wateringly beautiful scenes like Twilight's in CMC, the giddier I'll be.)

Like Swarm of the Century?

I'm glad that they do not use Twilight's magic just as some sort of convenience device to sort out every problem that comes up like they did in 'A Dog and Pony Show' where they just pull out the gem-finding spell out of nowhere.

I'd imagine Rarity's parents being poor. Either they used to be rich but were forced into poverty at some point or they're struggling artists who are terrible with money.

It would also be really awesome if Fluttershy's dad was a Wonderbolt. With incredible flying skill and a massive ego to match. However, he used to bully Fluttershy for being so timid and clumsy, so she tries to keep it a secret from her friends.

Also I'd love to see Granny Smith have more of a role. So far the only aspect of her character we've seen is that she's old, feeble and possibly senile. I'd like to see a situation where she and Applejack have an arguement over something and have them learn that every generation has something to learn from the other.

Or on the flipside, have Fluttershy's dad be this big, butch, scary military guy - maybe an ex-royal guard - but he treats her like a princess and she's a total daddy's girl. He's hyper-protective, so she never had to deal with conflict directly, hence the timidness.

Meanwhile, everyone else is absolutely terrified of him. :ohgawd:

For some reason I imagine Flutterdad just sleeping in bed all the time. Fluttershy never learned how to deal with conflict because her father never bothered dealing with it.

Now, Dashie's dad I could see being a military man, an Air Force flyer. :jingo: Lost his right rear hoof during the Draco Wars of 973. Never walked anyway, so it didn't bother him.

I would expect, at minimum, for Rarity and Sweetie Belle's parents to make a brief appearance, and probably Twilight's featured for an episode. Beyond that, though, I wouldn't expect any more parents/family backstories to appear until at least a third of the way through S3.

Pegasus ponies evolved to fly with four legs. Missing one would completely throw off their balance. Especially if it was just one. They'd have extra weight to one side, and correcting for that would slow you down.
