GENERAL UPDATE (nice timing for top-pager):

108 and 109 are confirmed, I'll list them here, and 110-112 below are RUMORED:

108 Jun-2-2012 When Extremes Meet
109 Jun-9-2012 Out of the Past
110 Jun-16-2012 Turning the Tides
111 Jun-23-2012 Skeletons in the Closet
112 Jun-23-2012 Endgame

112 is the finale of the Amon arc, 113-26 I think constitute another arc and there could be a sizable break.

This is overall a minor complaint for me personally, but some are pretty devastated that Mako & Bolin have completely lost character development as the season has gone on, and it's mostly the romance stuff. Here's some thoughts on it...

==============================

One thing I just read while browsing the "what do you dislike about Korra?" thread on avatarspirit.net is that Mike & Bryan are the only people collaborating on writing this 12-episode arc, and that more writers will be coming on season 2 (episodes 13-26, not sure if those will be a Book Two or not, kinda hoping Air continues). I also read in ATLA, every ep was essentially a collaboration of the writing room according to commentary on the complete DVD collection, it's talked about in one of the mid-S2 episodes.

Mike & Bryan are more artists / storyboarders, where the animation of this entire series is its best strength. Romance never used to hinder ATLA like it does in Korra. Hopefully Mike & Bryan realized they introduced a major flaw and will allow the incoming writers to fix it a bit. It has come to the point where you forget what Mako & Bolin's personalities were supposed to be - which some of it is time issues and prioritizing plot, including continuing Gaang stuff with Yakone...

...But what if the Korrang was Korra, Tenzin, Lin and maybe Asami in a bit of a different role? No Mako & Bolin, no probending stuff largely taking up the first half, no romance? More awesome Lin, show Korra learning airbending more, have Korra & Asami meet in a bit of a different way, you can reveal Hiroshi in a similar way that doesn't require the two of them moving... I think the series would have improved by simply narrowing its focus that way. Hopefully again season 2 will attempt to reestablish the current Korrang, assuming everyone makes it alive & all.

I think this is the most relevant thread for this. Basically, for those of you who don't read Dinosaur Comics, a recent comic about when you have "an inbox full of emails, each demanding a response" had one of its three pieces of "secret" text be: "other flawless idea: redirect the conversation to something you want to talk about with a first autoreply of "wait, did you see the latest 'legend of korra'??"".

I didn't know Ryan North was a fan. :crack:

Just as a note, Nicktoons channel will have Mike & Bryan commentary over the entire 12 episodes from 7/9-20 (weekdays) at 9pm, I assume 101-2 and 111-2 remaining together as two-parters on 7/9 and 7/20, although no episode is technically a two-parter here, that's just how Nick is airing them.

My biggest fear for season 2 is that Asami gets tossed aside as the newly-incorporated CEO of Future Industries so she can't go on adventures with the gang and is only there to provide cars and transportation when Korra needs it in a pinch. I know most people probably don't want more relationship stuff, but I'd like to at least see Mako suffer for being an impulsive teen that didn't end things with Asami before moving onto Korra.

I hope there are spirit world shenanigans in season 2. Also I hope that Korra takes over as the new Amon, fighting for justice for non-benders. After all, she's their Avatar as well. :smirk:

Season 2 looks fairly solid:

Team Avatar will travel to the Southern Water Tribe. They'll visit a festival with glowing lanterns that warm up the snowscape scenery. Beautiful.
Korra will travel through a storm to find a glowing iceberg. Spirit world? The ice cave looks very reminiscent to the iceberg Aang was trapped in.
We saw concept art of the Southern Air Temple. Inspired by Chinese art, it's a stone structure enhanced with yellow and orange skies, lush vegetation growing over it.
Book 2 will explore the Spirit World and how the "Avatar" lineage began. Korra will travel into the spirit world and Konietzko hints that there may be episodes later in the season dedicated to exploring the bigger landscape of the Spirit World.
Then we saw some new costumes. Korra will have new threads inspired by Mandarin, asymmetrical fashion. Mako and Bolin will get big, fluffy coats for the frozen tundra that maintain their color coordination (Mako loves that red scarf).
Asami is now the head of her dad's Future Industries, so she's gone corporate! Luckily, she has an alternate costume, an airship look that makes her a double for Amelia Earhart.
Book 2 will bump up Bumi, a fan favorite and brother of Tenzin, to a regular character. He's got a big potbelly which fits his wacky personality.
His sister Kya will also be a regular player. Dubbed a hippie by "Konietzko," Kya's big into healing.
Korra's expanded family will be introduced. The creators mentioned that Korra was inspired by MMA fighter Gina Carano, which explains her build. It also explains why her entire family is ripped.
Book 2 called "Spirits" and takes place six months after Book 1.

I guess it figures that they finally dedicate some time to really explore the biggest mystery of this lovely world- that being the spirit world. I rather expected that to be a bigger part of season one, but I'm glad it's getting a full dedication as opposed to being mixed in with all that other stuff.

I can only hope they really develop Mako, Bolin, and other characters besides Korra better now that they have guaranteed number of episodes to work with and they're out of a static environment.

Yeah that's pretty nice, while Aang interacted with spirits quite a bit he didn't need to "explore" it because he was already an intensely spiritual dude from the start. Korra is... not, to say the least. I'm pretty excited to see more of adult Aang as well.

Character development will pretty much happen because they'll be in the wilderness a lot, and while I'm sure stuff will happen, there will likely be quite a few "lulls" for more character interaction.

Why is Koh brought up so often? Yeah it was a really cool/creepy spirit but why do people think it's likely to reappear?

Korra is really powerful. Like, blowing-fire-out-of-her-mouth powerful. The only people in ATLA who were shown to do that were very advanced and highly skilled firebenders. So my question is, what would be the conclusion of a hypothetical fight with Aang after he leads her on an hour-long chase where she ends up destroying stuff in a 20-mile radius?

First episode aired in Germany last sunday.

It was GLORIOUS.

I guess everyone here knows by now why this show is awesome, so I will not repeat all the reasons. :v:
Just wanted to announce that, maybe some German members missed it, I think they repeat the pilot next weekend.

And the VAs are actually very good, too, even compared to the original :awesomedash:

The music :-D Oh god oh god oh god the music how come this music is so BEAUTIFUL

And yes, I've waited all that time to see it, never watched it online or something, wanted to savour it and everything. It was hard :twonk: But sooo worth it, it's all new and shiny and oh god that bush SPARKLED.

No official confirmation, but this article suggests season 2 will come out April, the same time as last year, and some fans saying March 23rd for some reason:

http://www.idigitaltimes.com/articles/1 ... e-date.htm

All in all, right on schedule. It would be a nice bonus if they do roll out season 2 as soon as March, but that date seems to spring out of nowhere from fans from another forum so I'm still going to expect April. I imagine Nickelodeon would want to have some time to promote its coming as well.

Also when it comes this year, I figure we can just continue to use this thread to follow its progress. I think some of us were too optimistic last year about its following, and I'm currently in favor of sticking to just one thread during its run unless you guys really enjoyed episodic threads being made.

Finally finished this, and I was a bit let down. Particularly with the reset button ending. Having season 2 be about Korra getting her powers back would have been interesting. I also don't understand killing off Amon, when it's never explained how he learned to spirit bend (or just destroy any balance the world had by making spirit bending possible though water bending). I think the plot would have been better served for him to really be a non-bender who figured it out, rather than a water bender with an agenda.

Thankfully Korra herself was an enjoyable character, because everyone else was just boring, particularly Mako. Bolin was awful. All the stupid parts of Sokka without being balanced by Sokka's good leadership and tactical skills.

Will say that I was initially down on the new state of the world, but it rally grew on me, and I think could serve the story well.

In the end it was a show that just didn't step out ans anything great, and ended up being totally average.

In hindsight I'm rather inclined to agree. It had its moments, but the sum wasn't up there, largely brought down by the weaker characterization on a whole. It didn't really live up to ATLA.

Still, I'm cautiously optimistic that Season 2, with a seemingly completely different plot, might yield something better.

The main reason I'm optimistic about Korra season 2 is that they'll have a full writing staff. A:TLA always did, even in the first season, but Korra season 1 was solely Bryan and Mike.

Also Bolin was awesome for the ten seconds he got on-screen.
