A way round this would be to start off with a cart elevator like the old Cloudsdale one, that has a footprint of 3x3 which you could hide in whatever you're putting on the sides of your arc. Actually I can think of a way of making it 2x3 maybe...

I recommend trying it out in creative singleplayer first.

Going by your plan I made a slightly more precise mockup in GeoGebra to see how it would work out:

In this example here if you build from an initial height of ~46 blocks from ground then it can smoothly join with the parabolic arc at point A, which should look pretty cool. It's probably best to make plans in microsoft excel or paint though because this program is fiddly to use and gives fractional values for co-ordinates and stuff.

So I was watching some videos about the minecraft tekkit pack, but that kinda made me wonder, what else is there really left to do if you have machines doing all the mining for you? Is making the machines yourself the new "maingame" if you install it?

Just something that came to mind that I don't really get. :allears:

EDIT: Watched more Tekkit vids now. Yeah, I can see that you need to gather a LOT of materials before you have those huge machines that people kept showing off.

Waaaaay back about a year ago on Ponychan, there was a thread showing what the seeds looked like for a bunch of character names. I started playing on "Gilda" because they said it had surface lava close to spawn, but I quickly discovered that it also had a huge surface deposit of coal and iron and a convenient spot to dig a home into a cliff that seemed to be creeper-ambush proof.

Fast forward to now, and "Gilda" now spawns me on a huge island that's half-covered in jungle. The shape of it (which I mapped out in creative mode) reminds me of Monkey Island, come to think of it. "The Great and Powerful Trixie", meanwhile, plunks you down in the middle of a frozen wasteland.

In my search for a seed that would accommodate city building, I found something even better. "Ditzy Doo" is a spelunker's paradise (at least in 1.2.5). You're spawned right by a series of shallow ravines rich with coal and iron and entrances to cavern systems, and a deep hole whose bottom leads right to an underground ravine that intersects an abandoned mine shaft. The only drawback? You spawn on an island with only one small oak tree. Good luck.

So it looks like the Bluehell server will be going away soon due to costs and lack of interest, so we'll need a new home :fluttersmith:

I have less than no money to help with costs, but am happy to donate time as necessary - any ideas?

Hm. I hadn't heard. I'm afraid I haven't really been on much myself, lately. I've been so busy with other stuff and am just a bit burned out on it at the moment. The last few times I've been on though were pretty desolate, like one or two other people on maybe. My bro and his wife have been kind of the same, just not playing much and not seeing anyone else on when they've logged on.

If there's enough demand for another one here, I think someone from here running it specifically for PGs would be nice, although I'm not really sure how possible that is.
Been kinda getting back into MC, would be nice to play it with people.

Also people might be more interested once 1.3 comes out. So much new stuff :starity:

That's a shame, I had noticed that there were only 1-3 people on whenever I looked at the livemap when there used to be up to 10ish at times. Figures.

I have a paypal account and could possibly donate some, but it'd be a one time donation for now.

Would there be any interest in using a mod pack such as the Technic pack or similar? I've played that on my own single player worlds and it's fun with the micromanagement and stuff, although the endgame content from the different modpacks is overpowered and should probably be restricted.

I don't suppose we have anyone here willing to host the server again? I do admit that I find vanilla MC a bit boring, but at the same time I don't want to lose the server.

Indeed. Although the last few updates have restricted new auto-generated content to new worlds only; is it going to be like that again? Not that it probably matters on a multiplayer server where people have already explored as far out as they ever care to go.

Looking at the changelog for 1.3 - which is coming up August 1st (!) - I would reckon the old world would break anyway, and even if it doesn't that whole having to travel for days to get new places to render would be a chore.

So goodbye world, I guess :ohrarity:


Ok, IF we actually managed to find a new server host, how many of you would be prepared to play on it if it was a new world, had similar rules & plugins to the old mlpony.com server, but wasn't overtly pony? (IE it was more pony than bhp's but no influx from EqD)

And if you did come play, what would be your expectations/requests re: plugins, rules, etc.?

I would, although I do almost never really get attached to worlds or builds. Usually start a new one every update regardless of what changed.

No creeper damage, chest locks(fairly common stuff), rules against being a dick and griefing.

Also they just changed it in the latest snapshot so that SIGNS CAN STACK AND GIVE 3 PER RECIPE HALLELUIAH
(and breaking boats drops boats now, it's about fucking time for that as well)

If it was roughly the same as the Bluehell server then sure thing. With the amount of things changed in 1.3 it shouldn't need any plugins or mods to be interesting. Rules can be as before, no excessive pony speak/whatever and no hate speech will cover it for the chat.

Do you have any host in mind? I'd be willing to donate 15 dollars through paypal to help through the first month or so.

Apparently one server had a plugin that gave the different types of ponies different powers, which would be interesting although probably impractical. Hawkeye would be a good plugin as well for moderation.

As well, would we be able to bring over big projects from the old map and worldedit them in?

Really what I want in a Ponygoons minecraft server is just that, a minecraft server just for Ponygoons. Both of our servers were shared with other communities and there was at least a little bit of friction between us. At any rate, I'm not playing until the patch hits.

Edit: Also, fuck PvP. One of the most annoying things about the BHP server was having to watch when you did dragon so you didn't get ganked.

Honestly, this is my ideal as well. Other than that, a ponygoons server by a ponygoon specifically for ponygoons, all I want is fairly standard plugins.

I set up everything on the bluehell server and could help you guys out if needed with what plugins I would say substitute "standard" and any setup stuff. That's if y'all want, anyway. There are a few moderation plugins I've used on both gnintendo's and bluehell's server past just hawkeye.

And if we have a ponygoons server, let us please keep it to just ponygoons damn it. I liked some of the people from eqd and most of the bluehell people obviously, but there's way too much damn friction when they all intermingle.

In my admittedly short time I've seen minor drama but nothing that stemmed from ponygoons vs EQD fandom bickering. Is that type of thing common?

I dunno if the clan plugin is really necessary, since it'll just end up as "insert favorite pony here". But yes, Ponygoons only.

Ok, cards on the table - or at least the few cards we have for now...

We have a plan for a server for "Ponygoons and friends" that will be funded by Terephthalat/default_settings, coded & sworn at by jamartinezm and moderated by yours truly. This server will not be overtly poni from the outside, nor will it ever be publicly announced in major news aggregation sites.

We plan on getting things like plugins & mods set up before 1.3 hits, but then scrapping that world and resetting to a new one come August 1st (or whenever stable 1.3 hits).

Rules and plugins will be roughly similar to mlpony & bhp, but things like shops and clans etc. would probably come later rather than at the start.

Finally, the server will probably be sited in Europe which hopefully won't be a dealbreaker for anyone here ping-wise as I've seen plenty of people playing in both directions with no problems and you can always try it out in the setting up period before 1.3

Thanks for the feedback questions & offers of help - keep them coming! - we shall address them once we get closer to having an actual functioning server. :flattered:

By this I'm assuming that any ponygoons may invite non-ponygoon people they know personally. On the bluehell server I had a friend of mine play and build near me, would that be allowed?
