I'm fine with those rules but for two points:

- The rule about replanting all trees/crops isn't necessary imo, as long as the area near spawn always has those available (or if seeds, wood, reeds and cactus can be bought at spawn) then the rest of the server might as well be first come first served.

- 'viewing distance' is a bit vague because if you have a fast machine and optifine then that could be a square of 512 blocks per side, while others play with tiny or small render distance. I liked the old rule about using the height of others' buildings as a guide.

Any chance of having the rule relaxed in and around the spawn area? Allowing a greater density of buildings will mean that people won't have to travel as far to find a good site, and besides it's cool watch the spawn area grow as time goes on with everyone's unique buildings.

Trees in the wild, maybe not so bothersome - but I'm going to be more that a little :unenthused:

As for building distance:

Since this seems to be a rehash of mlpony.com's rules--

-Maybe change the bit about bugs/glitches to just "exploits."
-I would highly recommend not allowing players to claim caves. We ran into tons of issues with that on G's server, and none on the bluehell server where we abolished that rule (exception to "town mines").
-Agree, change the name colors. :V Red name staff gives me bad vibes from the past.
-Clarifications feels out of place, why not merge them into the rules they're about?

Maybe just use blue for the mod/admin names and use only the badges we have right now to tell apart admins from mods?

I like purple for mods and blue for admins. Or have a prefix in front of their name showing rank, e.g.
[Suspended]name1
[Unranked]name2
[Builder]name3
[Mod]name4
[Admin]name5

Trying to eliminate wriggle room here - the sort of people who exploit stuff like this are the sort to say "Ah, but it's not an exploit, it's a glitch so I'm perfectly entitled to fill my chests with illicit diamond blocks!". I'm pretty sure that we won't be seeing as many of those sort this time round, though.

I'm fine with this personally, if that's what people want. However, I don't want people coming along and nicking all the ores form the caves right under my house!

Sure, as long as the colours work ingame and in irc, I'm happy with bright pink! I'm also happy with all staff having the same colour & just a badge to differentiate between Mods & Admins

There's a simple reason behind that: The rules are what every player should know by heart.
The clarifications are more like a FAQ to the rules a player should consult if he isn't sure how a rule applies to a specific situation.

We're hurtling ever closer to having a working thing for you to connect to! We have a box, it works at the moment, but we'll soon fix that! :-I

We just need to set up the plugins & permissions before opening it up for y'all to come play. :twasnothin:

So in the meantime, we would like to invite applications for the Whitelist - yes, we're using a whitelist as a security ringfence on top of the previous systems of no-build-rights-until-promoted. That should keep the random idiots & griefers from wandering in off the street and as we're quite small we won't have that many staff to cover the whole day, all week (also the staff would quite like some time to play actual minecraft too, please!).

To get on the whitelist, just post your Minecraft name in here and we'll add you - simples!

people will still need to talk to a staff member when first joining, just to check they've read all the rules etc.

In the foreseeable future I'll probably only be around to look at stuff. I've thoroughly exhausted what there is to do in vanilla and 1.3 just seems to fix bugs and make some things take less effort. The EXP dropped from mobs seems too low now that mining with little risk is the fastest route to maxed enchantments. At least with experience as it is in 1.2.5, the game rewards building and brewing with mob traps + damage potions.

And what kind of person would I be if I played Minecraft just to build huge, impractical structures? :rainbert:

Also, Phool, I'd be glad to help with the moderating if you need it. I'm awake at the weirdest times, which could be useful, but I've never moderated anything, which could be a disadvantage. Nevertheless I'm available. :jingo:
