I started another hardcore world yesterday, this time with large biomes. Had a pretty easy time avoiding death except for three close encounters with a blaze, magma cube (of all things!), and a lucky enderman.

It took me a while to get a full enchant table because books need leather now, but I was only 1/3 of the way done when my diamond sword got Looting II and the rest went by really quickly. I should have thought to get that on a gold sword before building any bookshelves, which would have been easy because gold enchants act like they have 12 more levels than diamond. Also wouldn't have wasted all kinds of EXP by letting it build up to level 38. The new enchanting mechanics are great at any rate. :allears: Mobs just need to put out more EXP now.

Anyway, this is what I had prepared for The End just earlier today:
Image
I decided not to bring beds in because they seem like a cheater-y tactic after seeing someone bring down the dragon in just five hits.

The dragon's health bar showed up as soon as I warped in, so I threw my pearl over to the main landmass to get to safe ground ASAP. As I was climbing the mountain of endstone in front of me, the dragon stuck his head out from it and sent me flying backwards. I looked down thinking that I came all this way just to be knocked into the void, but the dragon caught up with me before I started losing altitude. The next hit knocked me up and back toward another part of the landmass. When I saw that pale yellow fill the screen as I was looking downwards, I thought for a split second that the dragon had just given me another chance. That's when I realized the ground had to be like 50 blocks below me.

Not even five minutes after taking that other screenshot, I was looking at this:
Image

Fuckin' dragons, man. :butwhy: A smarter idea would have been to just dig a curve into the mountain. The dragon's ridiculous knockback then wouldn't have been an issue, and I probably would have succeeded. I also might have been able to throw the pearl over the mountain in the first place, had I thought to aim higher.

Funny story: if you throw an ender pearl at the ground and it hits first, you can avoid taking fall damage. :twonk:
It's tricky though.

So like if you throw it off a cliff and then jump?

No, I mean if you jump off first and then you throw it straight down, because it'll move faster. :black101:

That was a story? :-I

I likely would have done that if I was smart enough to bring more than one pearl. :facehoof: I also had the option of trying to break the fall with one of my water buckets, though it'd have taken one hell of a timed click and might not have worked against that height. Killing the dragon after pulling something like that off would make me feel all

Also also, if you are next to a wall you can place a ladder on it while falling and grab on to stop yourself, although that requires you to be a goddamn ninja and is just basically impractical.
But it's alright because if you do it it is SUPER COOL :twonk:

Just use water. Much easier and you won't crater on top of the ladder.

I'm bored and pretty average at making skins. Any requests?

Messing with some texture packs.

I might like Sphax better if it didn't have issues with the HUD contrast vs the environment.

Or fantasy anime leather armor for "iron" armor that cut into the pony's back. :nngh:

what's the second one? I'm using sphax right now but some of the textures don't seem to be updated properly for 1.3 (the side of birch planks)

So, eh... my two trips to the official server were cut short when I got "timed out" both times.

Is this a problem with my internet connection or something else? :fluttersmith:

Apparently magic loader uses the 1.3.1 .jar for best effect, not the normal minecraft.jar. Who knew?

Are you using any mods? If so, try without them and then adding them back in one at a time.

I'm only using a texture pack. Guess I can try to disable that.
EDIT: Nope. I guess I should try official troubleshooting stuff.

Well, just now I had removed minecraft and Java and reinstalled both and updated windows, and that solved the problem temporarily(I actually managed to start building my temporary home) until I got kicked out again. (Of course, in the end it could very well be that my internet is just crappy. Its wireless and sometimes derps up randomly anyway. )
What update are you talking about, exactly?

I meant hitting Options from the initial launcher and there's a button there to force an update (sorry, posting from memory as I'm out shopping :modesty: )
However, if you're actually getting on now it does sound like it's your network connection, sorry.

Maybe ask around in the server irc channel if you haven't already? It's always full of helpful geeks :chillin:

Yeah, I guess its just my internet. I can get on just fine, but its kinda laggy (Sometimes I break a block but it won't appear as a pick up-able block immediately, and I can't access a chest or crafting table right away and mobs just freeze) and sometimes the lag stays until I get that error.
Meh. As long as it doesn't kick me out too soon I can just play in small chunks.
I found a whole forum thread of people who had the same problem, but no solution seemed to fix it for everyone. (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/116 ... timed-out/)

It copies it so as to keep a clean .jar on hand. Any good utility that modifies the .jar will do this.

So has anyone else noticed creepers being harder to avoid setting off since 1.3? I thought it was just lag when I was playing on our server, but then I encountered on in single player and it was the same way. It used to be I could hit them from higher ground before they even started hissing.

Dyeable armor but still no advanced dyeing for wool? Come on, Jeb, quit stalling and make that happen already. I don't even care if it makes it so I can't directly dye sheep anymore; just gimme them colors!

But those corner stairs are awesome. Time to start planning that pyramid. And it's about time we can place hatches flush with flat ground.

Apparently when he shoots you you get the "Wither" effect, which makes it so that if you would be regenerating health via full hunger, you'll lose it instead.
He needs tweaking(specifically, he needs to be harder), but it's a early version, so I think it'll get done.

^ Ah, so kinda like the Ender dragon at first. :allears: (Saw an old enderdragon video from when he wasn't entirely functional yet where he had to be spawned in by assigning his spawning to a right click.)

That's pretty cool, though I agree you wouldn't want this guy to spawn just about anywhere. Those attacks are very destructive! (And I doubt that'd happen anyway)

Nether Fortress boss, maybe? Or maybe they've got something entirely new planned. :gotcha:

Of all the changes, I'm most excited for arrow-triggerable wooden buttons! Maybe I'll finally get off my ass and make my target range.

That's gonna be really great too. Back on the old server I was making a theme park at one point and had planned an archery range with prizes and such, but the only way to trigger a block with arrows was a bit unreliable and unwieldy. This is going to be much nicer.
