Based on the successes of previous Minecraft servers, here a server for "Ponygoons and friends" that won't ever be publicly announced on major news aggregation sites.

Funded by Terephthalat/default_settings, coded & sworn at by jamartinezm and moderated by yours truly, Alintetra is a Survival world that runs various Bukkit mods & plugins similar to both the old mlpony.com & bhp servers (such as private chests & doors and economy & shops).

:pinkieshrug: Free! - default_settings' covered the server fees for the next several months, so we're not currently needing or accepting any donations, but thanks anyway!

:ohboy: NOW!! The server is currently on version 1.5.2 but don't update to whatever comes next until we've announced the transition to the new version - or you can use Magic Launcher if you kept your old minecraft.jar file.

:wantitneedit: Don't let the server being hosted in Europe put you off, we've had players connecting from North America and Australia with minimal problems, so give it a try! :party:

...but as nothing ever works 100% of the time, please help us by reporting any bugs in here or irc by using TEXT WORDS rather than just SHOUTING AT US! :speakest:

e: UPDATE 8th December: We've added a lift mod ("lift" is the proper word for what you merkins call an "elevator" :spike101: ), details on usage can be found here.

We are going to import Spawn Plaza from bhpmc to Alintetra as the central place on the server. For those unfamiliar to it, it is a hexagonal open place with a fountain in the middle, six streets projecting from it and public building surrounding it. While we also can import the buildings we found that some of them could and should be improved. Since some of our players are a bit unsure what they should build before the server gets reset we suggest them to enter the...

Construction Contest

What is the aim of the contest?
The aim is have the server's central place surrounded by public infrastructure that aids the players, creates a nice atmosphere for the central meeting spot and possible future events.

What can be built as a contest entry?
There are no restrictions in style, but please keep in mind that a square cobble block probably isn't going to win the contest. For the front length of the building something around 20 blocks would be good. If your building is a lot smaller it is likelier that we find some place to squeeze it in, though. Take a look at the image linked above to get an idea on the space provided.

Some suggested buildings are:
A place where players spawn
A place where players can have their shop boxes
A place where players can have their "post" drop boxes
A place for Announcements, like a message board
A meeting place
A theater or arena
A public farm
...
Basically anything that would be of use to all players, be creative!

How can I enter the contest?
Construct the building and post in this thread with the building's x/z coordinates, the purpose of the building and a short blurb why your entry should win

What's the deadline for entries?
Whenever we are ready to switch to (stable) Minecraft 1.3, so we don't know yet.

Will there be prizes

Who will judge the entries?
Alintetra staff members. If there are enough suitable entries we'll probably bring in the public, too.

I'd like to redo the "shop" from the BHP server for my entry. Its layout didn't really accommodate a bunch of chests very well, and people crammed things in willy-nilly. Also, its floor-space-to-shop-space ratio was pretty bad.

I do recall it had an odd footprint for a building. In the interests of fitting into the old spawn area, can you tell me what it was?

Also rule clarification: are we allowed to enter as teams?

This is true. It really quickly got full up of chests.
I almost wanna say there should be like a gateway to a market which is a path leading in one direction that players can build stalls/small shops to sell out of on the sides, so that it can expand as far as it needs to without running out of space.

Some sort of combination of your market from New New Cloudsdale and the uncompleted market area from the docks I was working on from BHP. I vote that idea. I like the idea of a somewhat limited-ish space per player though.

e: take a look at Sjin's Let's build a Kingdom, he did a pretty neat medieval open air market thing.

Well, I just spent a bunch of time making a glass farm dome at x:505 z:376. I'm still finishing it but I think it turned out pretty good. If anyone has wheat or pumpkin seeds to donate I'd appreciate it. I'd like to see what it looks like filled.

With 1.3 coming so soon, it'd be really neat if there was a shop for some of the harder to get materials to speed along the building contest.

So some things are really hard to come by on the server. For the contest, would it be possible to set up a little mini-shop by the spawn? I know Snake needs lawn blocks, and I need a whole lot of lightstone for my redstone lamps. We haven't had time to build up a decent bankroll or a decent economy where we can wheedle or trade for these things. Our designs really shouldn't be hampered by the need for a lot of obscure stuff.

That was mine :modesty: although I originally envisioned it to be all player shops, segregated into types of shops by floor - food on one, building mats on another, etc. but then Wally... :pinkieshrug:

As for the shape, it's a trapezoid/trapezium with 3 2 square corners, kinda like this:

Point, I guess it's just that people like me don't make stupidly huge builds. I like the survival roguelike aspect of Minecraft but not so much the sandbox. Maybe if redstone mechanics ever developed enough to make more complex and interactive structures with less hassle, I'd be building minigames or something. As of now the coolest thing I've ever built was a very incomplete and lightweight maze with co-op puzzle/platforming elements.

Which gets me thinking: Will we be able to request protections and PvP zones? My own server had a buyable cuboid system where 1 coin = 1 block, which evolved from 1 of any block = 1 block of space, which evolved from 1 obsidian = 1 height/width/length with a limit of 128x128x128. They had access to WorldEdit selections and //size to calculate what their space would cost, as well as the WorldGuard permissions to edit the land's flags once I approved them.

'Course not. I already said I liked the EXP changes, just that they could be tweaked so that risking your ass outside at night is faster than digging safely under the dirt blanket.

I like mob farms because they're like the one thing that rewards the construction element of Minecraft, but having to sit around in front of them for so long is dumb. At least with the tables lowered significantly and the max enchant reduced to 30, building a good mob grinder should get you lots of good enchants within minutes instead of like one L50 for some odd hours of letting mobs build up. (FPS slowdown hell) I used to just AFK or do that with one account while I played on the other, then use a splash health/damage potion to kill everything.

I really wish MC had more of that rougelike difficulty. As is, it's barely present even on hardcore, and you'll only really have a hard time surviving with mods.
I wish there were more enemy structures to conquer-dungeons that were actually like dungeons/miniature strongholds instead of boxes, evil castles or something, you know. Stuff that's hard to explore and deal with.
I also wish the nether was difficult to survive in. :-/ Just stick in a mob that aggros pigmen on you if it sees you, Mojang. That and nether fortresses that put up a fight.

When 1.3 rolls out I'll actually reserve a decent amount of space in a good biome. I'm always surprised whenever I log on and there's an entire building that sprang up overnight, but I want in :smirk:

Okay, consider this my official entry into the building contest. This is for the public farm category.

The first floor consists of a number of rings with different crops in each section, half blocks make up the paths. Each ring is separated by a circular canal. Water blocks at the top of the structure provide the 4 waterfalls that 'feed' the canals. Wheat is currently in the second outermost ring.

Reeds are inside of that with pumpkins in the center. The ladder leads up to the second floor.....

It's got a pretty good capacity and running out won't be a problem if people replant. It's not quite done yet though. For the outer ring, I'm going to put in some lawn blocks with flowers on them. Of course, I need lawn blocks first. If you want to check it out in game, the co-ordinates are x:505, z:376. It's right outside of the Glass Desert scrubway station.
