While Klystron panics, Mist feels boredom setting in. "Really? All...vanishy likes? Booooring!" She complains, and then leads forward, mumbling, "Try the red one! Ish always the red one! Or, or...ooh!" She spins, looking for Miner - he knows what's up, her mind seems to conclude! If we catch him, we can still investigate the cool blinky box-thing!
"Hey, little blinky-colt-thing! My friend ish crazy, but I'm just curious! 'M sorry if I messed anything up, don't go away! Really! I wanna help!"
The colt gives a flat look. "Like I'll let you mess up everything even further. I should've realized this wasn't gonna work. Last time I met you imbeciles you almost killed me! Sheesh!" Even as his image fades to nothingness, leaving behind only the innards of the train car, you hear an exasperated sigh.

In a moment of drunken brilliance, Mist Dancer immediately puts some very important puzzle pieces together. "Wait! We meet him in the future?" A diabolical smile splits her face, "That means until I see him again...I'm invincible! WOOHOO!" She promptly dives out the window to go play drunken train slalom!
Klystron splutters for a moment, buzzing frantically before regaining her footing and landing on the floor with a clop-clop-clop-clop. She shakes her head vigorously, then looks up at the rest of the ponies, quickly scrambling to regain her composure. "Aha! Quick examination of box colt box has given rest of information I have needed!* We are having all information that is necessary for acting against Russet gang." she chirrups, striding confidently towards the door.
"Only question now is how we are stopping big gang with only four ponies and griffon." She picks up an alarm clock off a nearby shelf, then tosses it into her bag nonchalantly. "I think I am having plan, but we are first needing to go to bar!"
As she steps out between cars, she calls up at the roof. "Hey Mist Dancer, I am knowing you are enjoying being invincible right now but I think I am having plan - come on, we are going to bar."
*NB: Quick examination of box colt box has given no information whatsoever. Bluff 24.
Arcana stumbled through the door, his hoof on the knob. "Shorry I'm late. The door wash locked." He rattles the knob, noticing it wasn't. "I mean, I pulled when I shoulda pushed." He glanced around the room and tilted his head to the side. "Did I mish shomshing?
Janus finished with his target practive, and returned his bow to its normal spot, before jumping down to join the other, saying"Finally finished doing inadvisable things? Though as its the bar I guess I should come along even if you are doing silly things to make sure you don't get us all kicked off the train by exploding a bottle of whisky as a prank inevitably starting something important on fire."
Klystron just about makes it out the door before nearly colliding with a certain unicorn. "Ah! Cards!" she exclaims, starting to rear back before glancing at Golden still in the room and reconsidering - no need to give her a reason to start an incident. She puts a leg around the unicorn's neck and starts gently steering him towards the bar again. "All will be explained in good time. For now, I am thinking you are looking too sober. Come, to the bar, and I will explain a better time."
She looks up cheerily as Janus descends. "Oh, Janus - you do not need to worry. Whiskey is made for drinking!" she chirrups, deciding not to sweat the details just yet - she needed a few more special ingredients for her plan, and at this point it seemed like Mist was the only pony who could stay on task and not feather everything up. Better not to disclose the plan, lest one of the two do something unwise.
"Come, there is much time before nightfall. Let us have good drink before risking lives, yes?"
"I... I... What?" Golden gapes at the disappeared box. "I was so close!" She collapses into a puddle of quivering pink fur, seemingly ignoring ignoring the new commotion around her until she speaks up. "What is this about the risking of lives? I may be able to help you...." She barely moves when she says this, having stopped shaking.
Mist eventually hops down from the roof of the train car, and spends a minute smoothing out her mane while the others talk, somehow managing to redo the brain immaculately despite being still drunk as a skunk - or at least inebriated.
"Oh yesh," she slurs happily, "Lots of lives to shave! Great heroism! Mares and stallions wooing us to save them! All shorts of fun things!"
"That... sounds good," the guardspony says as she gets back to her hooves. "You make these 'Russets' sound like they could really be a threat to the safety of the passengers. I may be off-duty, but I am still Solar Guard, so damn any pony to Tartarus that threatens innocents on my watch." She begins to trot to the door. "If you'll have my help, that is..." Golden colors her statement with determination, carefully keeping her previous disappointment out of her voice.
"Good!" replies Klystron, "Stay here, and make sure the Russets are not getting at weapons. If they are managing to get weapons then things might be getting bad very quickly. You are guard, you should be match for any number of ponies one on one, so if you are blocking door and windows are sealed then no number of unarmed thugs can overwhelm you. Especially if you have pike." She pops open her bags and fishes out a small flask, placing it in front of Golden. "If worst is coming to worst, then throw this on the weapons. It is not a good solution, but if we all fail and Russets have no weapons then other ponies will at least have a chance."
She lets that sink in, then a grin returns to her face.
"But it will hopefully not go that far and we will simply be asking you to help deal with criminals after we are done."
Once the group was past the Russet car, Klystron ducked into room 6F and quickly stuffed a hoof-ful of linens into her bag, before heading off with the others. "Okay, I have plan, but we are having to move quickly if we are having time to build all tools."
She continues on, moving quickly and gesturing with her wings. "First things first, we are going to stop at bar, and get bottle of everfree spirits, and some other minor things. From this, I will build bomb to flood Russet car with gas and knock them all out. After bomb is set, Janus and Mist, you will need to move in quickly with gas masks and tie up all Russets before they can recover. If anypony is still standing, it should not be difficult to buck them unconscious. Cards... Cards, you just stay out of the way. Get your equipment and meet me at engine in one hour, when I should have bomb and masks ready. Any questions?"
It's a flask of Alchemist's Fire, for the record.
Plan!: - Build ethanol bomb(s) with bottles of spirits and chemicals -- Booze bought at bar -- Additional necessary chemicals used from alchemy lab
- Build gas masks from scavenged components -- Tins from bar (tins of snacks) -- Coal from coal hopper --- Coal activated using engine and alchemy lab tools -- Mesh filter/straps from linen (stolen from Room 6F)
- Gas Russet car using bomb, knocking out already falling over drunk Russets
- Janus and Mist move in wearing gas masks, tying up Russets and beating up any of them still standing.
"Little gas bomb, turn alcohol into vapour and flood the car. That is why you are needing gas mask. We do not have numbers to fight without killing, and they are definitely planning on killing, so gas is safest for everypony involved."
Leaping in front of Klystron and turning around where he is sure she can see him, Janus glares at Klystron. "I just said I would help you, though if you keep this up there is nothing stopping me just going back to the cabin and reading up on our destination, as I was hired to investigate a Magical Disturbance, not an arms smuggler."
Klystron glowers right back. "You can feel as you like, but I am not interested in letting ponies get hurt just because it is not assigned. If you do not wish to do this, then I will not force you to help. But I am not a pony who stands idly by, and I will stop Russets even if it costs my life." she replies, continuing to walk.
"As it seems like this lecturing isn't going to stop even though I was offering to help with your plan, I am going to go find somewhere nice and quiet to read until you are done." Janus says as they are passing between cars, before he jumps up, trying to get up on the roof (acrobatics 14), however he ends up having to get a bit more height with his wings. Janus quickly makes his way along the top of the train back to the group cabins where he grabs his pack, before heading back along the tops of the cars to make his way to the observation car to read his books.
"Better this way. I do not want you risking life because you think you are doing favour." replies Klystron, as Janus runs off to sisters-know-where. Flighty griffon. She looks over at Mist. "Well, it is looking like I am your backup instead." she adds, with a shrug.
The pegasus trots over to Crescent. "Crescent! Crescent! Where have you b-" she pauses, noticing how unsteady the unicorn was as she closed the distance. "What is wrong? You are looking under the rain."
"One of the cupcakes at lunch was... wrong." She leans against the wall a little. "Something was wrong with it. I'm still feeling a little shaky." She looks up, and it looks like she's got something to say to Klystron, but for the moment, she holds back. "What's going on? I was just getting up, and I heard bits and pieces..."
"Count me glad I was not stopping for cupcakes." replies Klystron, no shortage of sympathy in her expression. "But not to worry, I am sure they have stomach settling medications onboard."
"If you are feeling up for it we are about to move against Russets. Come on, I can explain the plan on the way..." Klystron walks on with Crescent, and repeats the plan, as well as filling her in on the discovered weapons and the disappearing box.
After explaining, and procuring the last of her components she enacts her plan - barring significant objections.
##Execute Nuclear Option 2: Ethanol Gas attack
Raised Objection: Toxicity and Flammability of alcohol Response: Dilute solution with water to eliminate both risks.
Preparations made, the party is finally ready to enact the plan as the sun starts to go down...
* KlystronStar hoofs a potion over to Mist. "Showtime. Bottoms up and masks on." She grins as she pulls open the intervening door and saunters into the Russet car. Inside, she sets the bottle down a little out of the way behind a door frame and tips a little bottle of clear liquid right in, then heads out the other side of the cabin, the bottle starting to hiss away merrily. <KlystronStar> Outside, she nods to Crescent. "Masks on, we're going in in thirty seconds." * MistDancer simply nods her head, and murmurs, "I still think this idea is somewhat silly, but you are the expert." She flicks the cap open, and in one smooth gulp, downs the potion and then quickly ties the rag over her face. "Right, ready!" comes her muffled voice, the Pegasus standing at attention. "Books, if you have any extra help, now's the time!" * Crescent_Smile pulls her mask on, more than a little apprehensive, but offers a nod and a spell or two. ((Mage Armor on Mist Dancer.)) * KlystronStar downs three potions of her own, then pulls on her makeshift gas mask. "No regrets. Let's bring them all in alive." (Shield, Strength Mutagen, Resist Fire) * MistDancer smiles tightly beneath her mask. "Nopony's getting hurt beneath my watch. Not even jerks like them." She grins as the air shimmers around her, interlocking weaves of magic amplifying her natural nimbleness. "Time to get some exercise!" * Arcana stumbles in, more out of clumsiness than anything, and puts a mask of his own on. "I'm apprehensive, but I might as well keep you mares from dying." (Bless on whole party) * KlystronStar nods, then takes wing. "I'll hedge them in from the other side. We're on in ten seconds. Speed of the sisters!" She flies over the car and gets ready to burst in. * Crescent_Smile makes sure her pistol and fireworks are well-secured. * Crescent_Smile is now known as CrescentSmile * Arcana prepares an arrow in his cross bow just in case. <conantheDM> The makeshift bomb finally silently goes off, releasing the gas inside. The fumes seep throughout the cabin, permeating every room and, hopefully, affecting all the inhabitants. From outside, the party hears raised voices, followed by a series of thumps. Ten seconds pass, and then the only noise is the rattling of the car and the cold wind outside as the sun continues setting. * MistDancer waits until the time has passed, and then mutters, "In we go!" She wheels, and in one smooth motion bucks the door hard to force it inward. It occurs to her a moment later she could have merely -opened- it, but that doesn't stop her from completing her spin, wings flaring open as she flies straight into the car ahead. <KlystronStar> "...and 10! What pony wants to live forever?" she says to nopony in particular, bursting in through the door on the other side. * MistDancer replies cheerfully, her voice fading as she moves ahead, "I dooooo!" * CrescentSmile follows behind a little more sedately, not really used to the notion of launching armed raids on dangerous gangsters and wanting to keep behind the more... durable ponies. * Arcana sighs and trots in behind Mist quickly for the same reason as Crescent. <conantheDM> The party bursts in to see a long hallway with four newly-repaired doors along one side. The other side is a series of large-pane windows showing the sunset. Two of the doors have been opened, and each has an nearly unconscious pony tumbled out of it. * CrescentSmile does her best to convey "let's get them out of here first" to her cohorts. * Arcana nods <KlystronStar> "Check the other rooms first, it does us no good if we are taken by surprise." * MistDancer murmurs, "We're still missing the boss. Hauling them out of here's gonna take too long. Best to..." She nods with Klystron, and moves forward, flicking open each door and pausing for a moment to take in the contents of the other two rooms. * KlystronStar takes note of the unconscious ponies and moves up to the door closer to her, letting Mist take the other. * CrescentSmile goes to open the windows along the hallway, in order to let out any excess gas faster. This, coincidentally, keeps her roughly abreast with Mist in case she's needed. * Arcana just watches the mares from his spot near the door and keeps his bow at the ready. <conantheDM> Mist opens the first door to reveal three ponies armed with large sticks stumbling about, taken by surprise. They seem only partially affected by the bomb: drunk, but still ready to fight. <conantheDM> Klystron opens her door to reveal Lapp kneeling over the same pale earth pony from before. He turns his head toward Klystron as he hears her. "You!" he shouts in a slurred voice. "What did you do to her!?" * Arcana jumps at the noise and shoots out a large burst of light at one of the ponies on the ground, whichever seemed the most ready to get up. (4d6 for admonishing ray. 18 non-lethal damage) <conantheDM> The ray strikes a pony on the ground, who yelps with surprising clarity before blacking out. The other pony starts going into convulsions, apparently badly afflicted from alcohol poisoning. * KlystronStar can't be read behind the makeshift gas mask, but she glances at the unconscious mare. "She will live, with proper medical attention." she states, matter of factly "Surrender and we can get it to her." <conantheDM> "Errrr!" He growls as he jumps up and quickly bucks out the window. "If she dies it'll be your head!" he shouts as he vaults out the window to latch onto the side of the car. "Surrender is for the weak!"(Acrobatics 23) * MistDancer curses as her first attack misses - but then she slaps out with her wings, smacking the first opponent twice with stiff-winged blows. (Flurry of Hooves attacks 2 & 3, 24 & 20, 6 & 5 damage at 1d8+2) <conantheDM> The henchpony is knocked back into the wall and falls still. <KlystronStar> "Cards, we are having another downed here!" shouts Klystron to the rear group, "Lapp is trying to run!" <KlystronStar> With that, she dives out the window after him, taking wing and readying herself to lob a gas bomb at him if he tried anything funny. "This is unwise, you are realising, yes? If she is alone her chances are going down by the second!" <conantheDM> “I’ll take my chances out here. I’m the one that gets to kill her!” Lapp shouts back with a maniacal grin. * CrescentSmile breaks away from dragging the fully unconscious mook out of the car to check on Lapp's cabin. On the way, she snaps a look or two into the other cabins, making sure that nopony else is in them and in danger <conantheDM> Inside the two center rooms Crescent sees thee more henchponies, all awake but still surprised. There are two in the forward-middle room and one in the back-middle. <CrescentSmile> Thinking quickly, Crescent summons up one of her quick-fix spells, magnifying it in her mind and launching a blast of gearwheel grease into the second room, coating the floor. She settles for dragging the door to the third room shut on the run, hoping to slow its occupant down while she checks on the final compartment. <CrescentSmile> (Grease on the two ponies and their surroundings.) <conantheDM> As Crescent sees the now-almost-empty back room, the other henchponies finally react to the attack. In the first room, the remaining mare and stallion move to flank Mist and whack her into submission, but she easily dodges both attacks in a single fluid movement. (Attack with blunt sticks 19, 6, both miss) <conantheDM> In the next room over, the two ponies affected by the grease try to leave, but one falls over, the other only barely making it out of the room. The mare in the third room just barges through the flimsy door after Crescent, reaching her and attacking with another stick, but swings short. (Attack 9) <Arcana> Another burst of light fires out of Arcana's horn and slams into the mare that attacked Cresent's back. (Admonishing ray. 16, nat 1 on aim X.X) <conantheDM> Instead of slamming into Crescent's attacker, the ray almost grazes Crescent herself. <Arcana> " SORRY. AND I SWEAR TO DRUNK I'M NOT CELESTIA!" * CrescentSmile offers a yipe as the ray burns past her, spinning around and taking note of the two ponies now in the hall. "Be careful! And /you/..." <conantheDM> Outside the train, Lapp climbs up to the top as klystron charges out after him. He immediately draws something from a holster at his side. "You ruined our date, so I guess I'll just have to introduce YOU to Blasty!" The stick held by a contraption on his side roars, letting fly a mess of pellets, but he aims wide and misses. * MistDancer turns her attention to the first pony attacking her. One hoof flings out, catching him just below the jaw to send him crumpling to the floor. On seeing him staggering back up, she gives him a quick rap with her wing to keep him down. She then bucks outwards with her back hooves, hitting the other stallion in the flanks hard enough to smack him into a wall, but she sees him still * MistDancer standing. "Two down, one to go..." she mutters cheerfully, and then twitches her neck to either side, feeling satisfying pops as she cracks the joints. (Full Attack +1 Ki Point used -> 17, 20, 24 to hit, 10/5/7 damage to KO 1 and wound the other) * KlystronStar laughs as the spray flies past her. "That is 'Blasty'? Oh, I am knowing much better Blasty. Go on, catch!" With a whipcrack motion she flings a little vial into the air and bats it towards Lapp, where it detonates into a cloud of noxious smoke. (Stink Bomb, DC15 or be Nauseated for 1d4+1 rounds) <conantheDM> Lapp inhales just as the vial explodes, getting a lungful of stink in spite of the wind immediately whipping away the vile cloud. He coughs harshly, stumbling around the top of the train, now drunk AND skunked. * KlystronStar flies over onto the roof. "If it is any consolation I do not think she was that into you." * CrescentSmile jumps back a step, staring down the thug with a stick. "You know, the more you guys swing at me, the less bad I feel about this whole thing!" She closes her eyes, focusing on the vapor still in the air--trying to flash-freeze him in place. ((cast Frigid Touch)) <conantheDM> The final pony going up against Mist hesitates, but tries to get in one more hit against the hurricane of hooves and wings. She misses. The thug trying to take down Crescent takes a step forward and tries to whack again, this time hitting her solidly.(Attack 21, 4 damage) "Ha, you're all talk!" <conantheDM> The pony who came out of the greased room leaves his cohort sliding around to get at Arcana, swinging his club wildly, and only clanging against his armor. * Arcana glares at the pony and then speaks with a very firm tone, "Flee." (Command) <conantheDM> His weapon ineffective, the thug stares into Arcana'a eyes and his gaze deadens, then quickly fills with anxiety. He remains rooted to the spot in utter terror as the foul smell of fear permeates the area. <conantheDM> "Why you f*caugh* little son of a *caugh-hack*! What kind of *caugh*ing *hack* did you put on me!?" Lapp tries to bring his shotgun up several times, but every convulsion breaks his aim and concentration. <KlystronStar> "I don't sound /that/ much like a stallion, do I?" responds Klystron, a little offended. * MistDancer turns to the final stallion, flashes him a winning grin, and purrs, "Naptime." Her hoof smacks him at the base of the neck to send him to the floor. * KlystronStar moves in on the coughing stallion and attempts to tackle and pin him to the roof. <KlystronStar> (Grapple 16) <KlystronStar> "Let us not be trying to shoot ponies now, yes?" <CrescentSmile> Was it really a good idea to try and get CLOSER to the shotgun? <conantheDM> The stallion manages to dodge out of the way of Klystron's attack and regain his footing. "Hahaha*caugh-hack*. Grrr. That's not gonna sit with me, Blasty's my main gal after Lua!" * CrescentSmile takes part of the blow on her pack, wincing as she feels a mighty bruise well up along her back. "Oh, NOW you're going to get it!" The spell reaches its peak, and she lets it loose with a SNAP of suddenly freezing air. <CrescentSmile> The air in the car is quite thick thanks to the ethanol bomb and the added water, and the precipitous temperature drop has dramatic effects. The thug with a stick is enveloped in a FLASH of white, and when it clears is encased in a thin coating of ice, only able to blink and give a very nasty-looking scowl. She quickly loses her balance, falling over with a soft *tink* against the outer wall of the carriage. <conantheDM> The pony in front of Arcana finally breaks for it, turning and running as if for his life. <conantheDM> Mist clotheslines the panicked pony as he rushes past her door, falling down in the process, but also knocking him out of his trance. His head then hits the floor, gravity finishing her job for her. <conantheDM> The pony trapped by the grease finally rushes out the room... into the wall, where he breaks through the thin boarding with his skull and goes limp. * Arcana rushes over to the pony that was convulsing from the alcohol poisoning and tries to heal him. <conantheDM> Lapp finally tries to take wing and, in spite of his condition, he manages to keep stable and with the train. All of his comrades are down and his condition is deteriorated. He seems to be eying the area away from the train....
Klystron continues to run along after Lapp. "You know, when you were talking about date with blasty you were having me thinking 'Oh, maybe this pony is having good appreciation for explosives', but instead you are just using saddle cannon." she crows, batting an explosive up ahead of Lapp so it exploded in his face, sending more noxious gases into his face and buffeting him with concussive shock from the detonation.
"You disappoint me, Lapp! No finesse at all. I guess you are just two bit thug boss."
Arcana takes a deep breath, happy that the fighting has stopped, before taking a quick glance around at the three ponies who seemed to be in the most danger. The One with the convulsions and signs of Alcohol Poisoning seemed to be the most prominent of concerns. The mare frozen in ice by Cresent was much less in danger, as somehow being frozen in a block of ice is completely survivable by ponykind if the Hearth's Warming Eve story is any consideration, and the Lapp/Boss pony's marefriend... She didn't seem to be in any danger more than the knock out gas that Klystron had created. Arcana turned to the Stallion- he believed- first and searched in his saddle bags, his magic reacting with a few healign supplies and working to purge the alcohol from the pony's system to keep him from dying.
31 (nat 20)#Try it again to heal drunky
Arcana quickly stabalizes the pony and does the proper care to keep the pony alive before turning to the frozen pony.
Arcana warmed the ice and gradually melted it, keeping the pony mostly encased to keep her from attacking but once again making sure the mare was stabalized more than anything. With a final deep breath, he turned to the boss pony's marefriend and checked her over.
Arcana: 23 #Heal the marefriend Arcana: 14 #Heal the marefriend Arcana: 31 (nat 20)#Heal the marefriend
Nothing seemed too bad, so Arcana tapped her shoulders and tried to wake her up, simple first aid tactics, and upon succeeding continued to work and keep her awake. Sometimes falling asleep endangers somepony.
Meanwhile, with a laugh Janus carries on his conversation with the ponies at the bar, as he finishes his Salmon Steak, "One can't believe hoh much those ponies hate each uhthah soh much. one fluttah you 10 bits that the staff will atleast try to bung for or more of them orf before we reach horde, as there is bloh myself they aaare going to avoid ah confrontatiohn."
Mist looks quite self-satisfied as the final thug drops to the ground. "And that, fillies and gentlecolts, is why you never...oh, I've got nothing." She switches to what one day she's certain will be her trademark serene smile, trots over to the nearest window, pops it open, and launches herself out in one smooth motion, wings snapping out and pumping to spiral herself up to the roof of the train, guiding her in behind Lapp. "Just thought I'd drop on in, Potions!" she calls out cheerfully. "How's the air?"
She then turns her attention to Lapp, and chides, "And you! You've been a bad, bad pony. Time for a nap!" She raps him firmly on the head with a hoof to get his attention. "You know the drill! You can come nice and quietly, or I can reluctantly incapacitate you! Your choice whether you get tied up comfortably, or tied up with a headache that I'm going to tell Cards to make you suffer through!'
The white pegasus stalks her way forward, moving towards Lapp. "Now, then..." she begins calmly, "All of your henchponies are currently either unconscious or incapacitated. Your marefriend is being treated by our healer. You've already seen just how obnoxious Potions can be, and I'm sure our Prankster unicorn friend is on her way up. Oh, and I should add that of your henchponies, I believe I took out half of them single-hoofed, without a scratch on me. I could simply buck you in the face right now, but I see no reason to rough you up when you can just surrender peacefully."
She grins at him, "Face it. Your plan, whatever it was, smuggling weapons and all that, is a failure. So do the proper thing and lets go back into the train proper where you'll be confined in a reasonably comfortable manner until we turn you over to the Hoard constabulary."
"She'll live?"His eyes widen as he hears that, then shakes his head clear of the thought before it can slow him down, and replaces his expression with a smirk. "And you thought this was about smuggling? Tell me, did you think 'boomy' meant I wanted to blow up the train?" His grin only widens as he flaps his wings a little to gain some height and get away from Mist. "You guys aren't nearly as smart as I thought you were. Here you are getting the drop on my herd, and you think we're after a quick bit?"
Lapp backwings with a snap of his primaries, sending him hurtling in the opposite direction of the train. "If Lua's alright, I got better plans elsewhere! Can't stay here and tango with you pones after all!"
Mist looks at him deadpan as he spreads his wings. "Really? You're going to try and escape from me by flying?" She snorts once - she's fighting a mixture of amusement and annoyance, before she twists and calls out to Klystron, "Right, tell someone down below to try to brake the train, then catch up when you can! It's time to make sure this ruffian..."
A strange compulsion to acquire sunglasses hits her for a moment, and then she finishes,
"Has a hard landing!"
And then her wings fan outwards and she goes streaking off after him, mane a cyan blur as Klystron becomes the first to witness what happens when Mist really wants to fly. The air resistance barely slows her as she gets her bearings, and then she's zipping after Lapp, a cheerful whoop escaping her lungs as she surges forwards.
Shortly thereafter, she's cutting him off, even as she chides, "Really, I can do this all day. And I don't mind flying back to my destination whether the train waits for us or not. Hopefully, it does, because I'm not looking forward to carrying your fat flank when I knock you out."
"Whatthehay?!" Lapp almost collides with Mist midair as she blocks him off, instead swerving to the side last-second. "You think you can take me girly? Ain't nopony better than me when it comes to fightin up here." The sunset paints his grin red as it continues to set, the barrel of his shotgun glinting at his side.
She looks at him levelly. "In the sky? Let's see, I've spent the last several years doing nothing but learning to fly and buck miscreants in the snoot. Oh, you've got a pretty boomstick! You've got one shot in that thing, at most, and then you have to try reloading in midair while I'm all set to kick you down to earth. Oh, and let's not forget we actually prepared for this little encounter, so it's not just me - it's me bearing all the magical augmentations my friends can give me! Oh, and also that my Cutie Mark here? My special talent's flying!"
She leans forth and leers cheerfully, "You shouldn't be asking whether I can take you. You should be asking yourself if you think you can take me!"
Klystron nods, and takes off after Mist, pulling on her headset and signalling the engine room. "This is an emergency order, reduce to half speed immediately. I repeat, this is an emergency order, reduce to half speed immediately. An armed pony is attacking the train. I repeat, an armed pony is attacking the train. Reduce to half speed immediately." she yells, trying to make herself heard through the whipping winds as she gallops for the rear of the train.
Mist looks alternatively bored and amused as he flies away from her - the angle partially back towards the train once more.
"Right. The hard way it is, then." She flings herself forward at high speed, preparing to deliver a flying buck to the fleeing pegasus, though muttering, "Ponyfeathers," when she comes up short - still, it brings her back in range, as she adds, "Now, again! I can do this all day! You can still surrender!"
"I'm sorry, what was that?" he asks as he takes aim at the off-balance Mist dancer, now at point-blank range. "You are good at flying? It doesn't matter if you can keep up with me. Not if you can't keep up once you're here!" He fires off his last round, the spread plowing through the magical protection and into her body. "I can take you easy, don't mistake speed for power!" He then bucks her and launches himself off her body into the sky.

"HEY!" Down on the roof of the caboose, Crescent sighted down the back of the rocket, held still as a rock against the lantern cupola. ""LEAVE HER ALONE!"
It wasn't exactly the easiest shot--at night, on the roof of a train going eighty miles an hour, with the target already far back of the train. But this was what she knew--and as soon as the rocket leapt out of the bottle, she knew she'd gotten it almost perfect.
The modified rocket shrieked back along the tracks, spark trail turning from white to red as the fuses finished the propellant charge and ate into the burst powder. It slammed into Lapp, full on in the stomach--and just kept going.
