If anyone wants to continue this line of conversation, I'd suggest you go to DPC and discuss the option of having a sexual health / sexual education thread. Because we're diverging from the GSM thread. I'd be willing to moderate it, and you already know my thoughts on the topic, but this is derailing.
Sorry for derailing the thread. :fluttersmith:

By sheer outrageous coincidence, I've been having incredibly similar thoughts to some of the one expressed here recently, especially those about wishing my sex drive would just kind of subside/go away, and it's been eating away at me for a while. I realize that's probably not normal, but I didn't feel like there was anyone I could talk to about it. I never even imagined bringing it up here, because I was afraid it would seem gross or icky.

In other words, if there are other people like me who have problems or concerns that they don't feel like they can talk about in any of our existing threads, then perhaps making a new thread would do a lot of good. I would totally support the creation of such a thread if it were recommended in DPC.

...but I wouldn't actually make the request thread in DPC because that sounds scary ahhhhh :nnngh:

Well, that's that. No sex ed discussion on the open forums. But as I've said before, I was a sex education counsellor for five years and my PM inbox is always open.

I really don't think you did. But time for a new topic.

And just so we're clear, I fully respect the decision not to have these sorts of discussions. We've been skirting the edge of appropriateness for a while, and I really wanted to force the issue. And I wanted to ask the whole forums, not because I'm worried about making people uncomfortable (they can always just not read the thread), but I was more interested in the 'propriety' of it. I talk about sex like the weather, so I'm a little tone-deaf. I see nothing wrong with clinical sexuality discussion on a pony forum. But I'm more concerned about the general public opinion, or even a minority public opinion.

Truth. Also wow name change.

I'm vaguely disgruntled at the rfc thread for sexchat being opened and closed within a few hours one evening when most American members would be out for a holiday. I mean if it was ultimately going to be an admin coming in and laying the law down, why open it to member comment at all?

Anyway, I don't want to be all sour grapes, I didn't really have a preference either way. How about them gays, eh? :allears:

No, Background, it was more the fact that I wasn't going to support it if anyone found it inappropriate.

:flutterdear: Pseudo, don't beat yourself up about it. It's a source of anxiety relating to sexuality, and a line I've crossed repeatedly before while trying to sort out my own thought processes. You are not worthless.

I think the problem here is the same as telling people to go to IRC: despite these being more private environments, the people affected can be more anxious about using them rather than the public forums. :pinkieshrug: (I've never been into #quiltbag, should probably fix that at some point :modesty:). The other issue is that these private things can't really serve as resources or inspiration for others in the same way; I don't want anyone making the same mistakes I did.
At the same time, the constantly-spoilered purely-mechanical talk makes me feel a bit uncomfortable, like what is being talked about is something that needs to be censored even in a safe space. Like, dealing with unwanted urges is something non-asexual folks do, too. It's not a source an anxiety the same way, but sometimes it's definitely distracting and invasive (and for folks with male bits, well, don't wear sweat pants in high school, y'know?). You just learn to endure it, and it becomes one of those unspoken life skills.
This is true (and I didn't get the spoiler tagging either, especially given that the way it was done was the equivalent of "Star Wars spoiler: Darth Vader is Luke's father"), but at the same time, this thread is partially about helping people come to terms with their sexual orientation. Most people have the luxury of thinking about that in terms of love or romance rather than as purely a mechanical thing, but (aromantic) aces don't.

We've had several people that said they felt uncomfortable sharing their problems or perspectives in this thread. I understand we need to be fair to people who are uncomfortable with sexchat, which is why the separate thread made sense - those people wouldn't have to scroll through sexchat to get to the latest feelgood story (by the way, :yay: Momar!). Right now though, it feels like these discussions are being somewhat censored, not by unnecessary spoiler tags, but by constant encouragement to never talk about any issues like these publicly. :yikes:

--

The decision has been made, so if I see someone struggling with these kind of things in future and think I could offer support, I'll try to take it to PMs.

PREVIEW EDIT: Oops, I've been typing this for a while. :v: Did find it somewhat annoying that the RFC thread was opened and closed while I was asleep though. :ohrarity:

Ah, I was gonna give my two cents on the topic when I got back from work, but I guess not. While I'm of the opinion that sex is just as much a part of life as having breakfast (and hey, some people don't like breakfast), I respect that some people might be uncomfortable with it and will refrain from talking too much about it in the future.

Also, Pseudonym, please, don't, don't, DON'T do anything rash. Everyone here is really worried about you and wishes you all the best. Nothing is ever so dark that it won't be light again!

I've watched David Decoteau movies, so my sense of scale on the "gayness" of a movie is pretty skewed. :gotcha:
Also, Top Gun is gayer than Wizard of Oz, but Commando is probably the gayest movie of the 80s.

So Costa Rica managed to accidentally legalize same sex marriages.

In changing a bill, someone took out the part requiring marriage to be between a man and a woman, so now people are calling for the President to veto it because no one actually read it while voting on it.

Thought of another one. Bloodsport, especially the scene where the two friends are talking in the hospital after the bad guy beat the hell out of one of them (the one who looks like Lyle Alzado but isn't) and they're gazing into each other's eyes. :-D

I was gonna say Fisting Firemen 9, but then I remember that's not a real movie, it was made up for that Butters episode of South Park.

Very brief synopsis of Brokeback Mountain for the curious:
Two bisexual or closeted gay cowboys develop a relationship with each other. They each marry women but continue an affair for years. Ups and downs, and gay-er cowboy wants a relationship with bi-er cowboy, who is terrified of being a victim of anti-homosexual violence, and also doesn't want to abandon the kids he raised with his (now ex-) wife.

Ups and downs, and gay-er cowboy dies under ambiguous circumstances (accident? violence?). Bi-er cowboy visits gay-er cowboy's family and home, and sees that gay-er cowboy kept mementos of their time together. Then it's all super sad because he finally comes to terms with the fact that he loved gay-er cowboy, too.

No joke, Brokeback Mountain was actually banned from several theaters here where I live. When I finally saw it a year or so after it first came out, I was completely confused as to why everyone was so up-in-arms about it. Like nothing fucking happens in it. I think even the goddamn Mortal Kombat movies were more homoerotic than it.
