Try soap on a sponge? :v:

Actually, I leave mine in the oven, so I don't wash it every time. The top of the pan only touches the crust, and when pre-heating the oven the pan gets to over 400 degrees F anyway so it's essentially sanitized at that point. If there's some cheese that flaked and burned onto the pan, I'll chip it off once I dislodge the pizza from the pan, but most of the time the pizza just slides right off the pan. I'll knock it against my hand a few times while holding it over the sink to dislodge crumbs, and then store it back in the oven. When I used mine last night, it's a 12.75" pan, not the 15" I linked to. The 12.75" holds all the usual supermarket pizzas no problem.
ROBOT B9 wrote:While we're on the topic, let us discuss our favorite pizza toppings! As for me, there is but two toppings that is acceptable: mushrooms and pepperoni.
I like almost everything on pizza. Green peppers, mushrooms, sausage, italian beef, olives, pepperoni, spinach, garlic, oregano, etc. Among the few things I don't like are ham, hamburger, chicken, and I can't stand pineapple on pizza. Super oily toppings like giardiniera are best in deep dish pizzas because the cooking process gives the oil time to infuse through the sauce and into the crust, waking up the flavor. Spinach is also best in a deep dish pizza.

And in general I think Bacon is overrated except for when I'm watching Epic Meal Time or having breakfast, and even then I get tired of it after two strips or so. I've never cared for the flavor on pizza, but I won't pick it off.

This whole thread makes me think of this tiny pizza place here that's unfortunately only open in the summer but they do their pizza in one of those stone ovens and man is it gooood . :awesomedash:

Only down shot is that their restaurant is something like 50 miles out of town, but oh man is it worth it. Oh and you get antipasto with it too!

Far be it for me to act like a food snob ( :smug: ) but I've had some crazy shitty bacon in my time. I've just started going down the line of different brands, and now, thin stuff, I never buy. It doesn't cook right, it tastes overly salty, and gets way too crispy way too fast, does that shitty ribbon effect because it is full of water, etc.

I have the good fortune to have a local butcher that makes the best bacon I've ever had. It is thick and mighty and perfect.

(On burgers.)

Not to derail too much but I feel sorry for those who have to make do with this odd fatty strips of grease they call bacon elsewhere. THIS is real bacon. and you grill it, don't fry it.

That is back bacon. As opposed to the US standard, belly bacon. :jingo:

(I've never tried the former, but the latter tastes like chewing on a greasy salt lick, so I can only assume I'm missing out)

While I was in New York this weekend, I had a slice of penne pizza and a slice of chicken parmagiana pizza. It was heaven.

I chose that instead of my favorite Irish burger pub. I admit it, I prefer pizza.

Five Guys is so overrated. I can't understand where the love comes from. It's nice that they have a lot of toppings and stuff, and the variety's good, but the fries are terrible, I don't care about peanuts, and I can't find any evidence that they used frozen hamburger patties. They sure don't taste fresh to me.

But I enjoy Big Macs, so what do I know? :pinkieshrug:

Has anyone tried Smashburger? The burgers were pretty decent for a fast food burger (greasy as all hell, but reasonably tasty), but their "smash fries" were delicious! Awesome seasoning. And again, I could probably pick up a handful of fries, squeeze them, and the grease would run down my wrist. No exaggeration.

Smashburger is way better than 5 guys, and is easily the best "fast food burger" that I have ever had. The fries are actually coated with this herb oil after they are cooked, so, technically greasy, but, that's from the extra drizzle.

Echoing this statement because a double-double animal style with fries well-done and a Neapolitan milkshake is a beautiful experience. Never had Five Guys, but I can't imagine it being better than this.

Also if we're talking about fries, few things can top well-made garlic fries with liberal amounts of chopped garlic in it. Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top is a welcome addition. Also, curly fries beat regular fries any day of the week.

One thing I really like about In-N-Out is you can actually customize the burgers to be super healthy, which is something you can't do at most fast food restaurants.
  • Regular In-N-Out Hamburger = 390 calories, 19g fat
    • Protein Style (lettuce wrap instead of bun): -150 calories, -2g fat
    • Ketchup & Mustard instead of spread: -80 calories, -9g fat[/list:u][/list:u]
= Delicious fast food burger at only 160 calories and 8g fat!

I migrated from West Coast (In-N-Out land) to East Coast (Five Guys land) and I can vouch heartily for the In-N-Out contingent being in the right. :vogue:

Especially the point about the fries. In-N-Out's are crispy and golden and I used to eat them without any ketchup, because they were perfect on their own. You get to watch them mash the peeled spuds through the slicer machine with a giant lever right behind the counter. That's fresh, buddy. Five Guys' fries are floppy and moist and mostly skin. DAMN DAMN DAMN yeah whatever.

Also a big part of it is the pickles. In-N-Out, like all establishments hailing from the West Coast, has proper tangy bright green pickles. But Five Guys, being made up of bullies from the East, is a tool of the Pale Tasteless Limp Barely Green Pickle Mafia. I don't know what it is, but I haven't had a proper cheapass foodservice pickle slice since I came out here. They'll bleat about "half-sours" and "garlic full-sours" and hand-chalked signs on barrels on Bleecker Street, but dammit, I don't want history and snobbery, I want salty and green like they have at Subway. Don't make me buy them by the 5-gallon bucket.

Well, I now know what I'm going to do if I ever end up that direction again.

For hamburgers here we have some of the usual fast food chains, but there are a few local places that have some amazing burgers. Or at least I think they're amazing. Maybe I just think they're amazing because I have no frame of reference. Maybe I'm living in some kind of burger wasteland and I never knew it! :gonkity:

I think it's funny that taste becomes such a real issue of debate for people. Most debates (like this) are almost all done ironically because taste is just so subjective. However, there are people out there that will fight to the death that 5dudes is better than inside out burger. Then of course the absolutely lovely: "You go against the majority? Your taste is garbage."

I've had some seriously fancy burgers in my time, from home cooked to fancy restaurants. In the end, give me a Hardee's 1/3 pounder with ketchup, mustard, and cheese please. I also love McDonald's burgers that are fresh. They're hot, thin, have great cheese, and are just a fun little treat to eat. Of course, if I get a response to this post I'll probably get: "No, just eat a good burger for once." I think I've had enough burgers in my life to kind of average out where they are all going in terms of general taste, texture, ect. Nothing just beats a cheap fast food meal to me.

I've never had complex tastes though. I hate exotic pizza too. People who put fruit on them and other random things like anchovies just baffle me.

Steak is gross unless it's paper thin cut, medium rare with A1 sauce. ANYTHING else and it's garbage to me. Chewy and tasteless is the overall consensus of that avenue of food. "Eat good steak then." I've been to steak houses that have won awards for their cuts of meat, and they are just bleck to me too.

Overall though, I know some people have totally different mouths than me and really enjoy a good juicy hunk of meat. Other like thick burgers that have almost an ocean of liquid juice within them. That stuff just isn't for me :pinkieshrug:

My favorite food on this entire earth got discontinued because it wasn't popular enough :fluttersmith: (this has seriously happened to me like 5 times now)

I guess for myself, I prefer consistency when I eat out. If I find some place that has good food, I would like it to always be that good. Places around here, it seems to vary. Sometimes they are good, sometimes they are terrible. Except this little restaurant called The Bakery. Their food isn't the best in town, but it is always equally good, every single time I have gone there over the past 15 years. The burgers there are tasty too and cheap.

So I guess that has alot to do with my opinion on eating out at places.
