Even though the other spots are numbered, the only number ever used in hockey conversation is "five-hole". You'd say "high glove side" for 1 or "low stick side" for 4, for example.

Does it switch if the GK is left handed? :-I

Well, I guess shitting the bed in the last pre-Christmas home game is a Predators tradition now. :nngh:

even after such a good start, did not expect the Golden Knights to be 2nd in the division around this time!

So the USA beat Canada in a shootout at the World Juniors. And here comes the whining about shootouts from up here - you can bet we wouldn't be complaining if we had won. Protip: win in regulation and there wouldn't be a shootout. :-/

There are still people who prefer games ending in a draw? Man, that ended after the big lockout.

Meanwhile things ain't so hot up in Minnesota :negative:

Hawks tried REALLY HARD to blow tonight's game, but Patrick Kane decided to make a sick move and clown Talbot in OT for the win. They really should've won in regulation, but I'm glad they got 2 points at least.

Methinks they made the expansion draft rules a bit too favorable for the new team. :squintyjack:

lmao this Hawks/VGK game is going exactly as expected thus far. Hawks defense is tremendously bad.

e: welp at least they made a game of it didn't embarrass themselves too badly. They were even leading at one point! :v:

:chillin: Stanley Cup is back in Denver....

For Milan Hejduk's number retirement.

Seems like we have a lot of retired numbers for such a young (relatively) team. But some of them were for players who were there with the Nordiques. Hejduk is the first player to have a number retired who played his entire career with the Avs.

FINALLY the Hawks are on the good end of a drubbing, and on the only time Seabrook's ever been a healthy scratch.

Hawks win against an extremely hot Jets team :yay:

Gustav Forsling saved the Hawks' bacon from what would've been an extremely embarrassing empty-net own-goal on a delayed penalty. :fluttershock:

Scary scene in Montreal as a shot from Zdeno Chara hit Philip Danault and knocked him out. They've just taken him off on a stretcher, but apparently he is responding. :flutterdear:

Had a nice embarrassing moment during my pickup game today. I intercepted a pass at the point and was all by myself on a breakaway going the opposite direction. Everyone was screaming "GO! GO! GO!" but I heard it as "NO! NO! NO!" and assumed there was a stoppage of play. So I pulled up inside their zone and stopped, looking behind me, only to realize the play had in fact not stopped, so I ended up shooting a flat-footed wrister with nothing on it that was easily gloved by the goalie. :fluttershock:

At open skate today, an older guy got onto the ice and within about 4 strides he was doing the gonna-fall-backwards arm flails. He fell flat on his back and his head slammed onto the ice. I rushed over to him, he was conscious, but there was a steady stream of blood dripping to the ice, so I told him not to move and I went to get help at the front desk. By the time the manager had gotten his latex gloves on, the other skaters had moved him off the ice. He didn't seem too dazed and declined an ambulance. I hope he at least went to the doctor after getting patched up.

I feel really bad for him. It's the time of year for New Year's resolutions, I've never seen him at the rink before, and he was pretty out of shape, so I'm betting he was all gung-ho about starting something new and he made it about 1/8 of a lap before it all came crashing down.

I'll have to pay extra attention to the crowd shots on Tuesday next week. I wonder how many Blackhawks fans are still making the trip down to Nashville instead of going to home games.

The Hawks tonight went 0/6 on the power play, including 45 seconds of 5 on 3, and they gave up a short-handed goal. The only reason they're not dead last in PP% is because they scored 4 power play goals against Ottawa a couple weeks ago.

If I were you I wouldn't be missing him too much, considering how (your) Forsberg only allowed one goal on 43 shots. In the end there's just nothing a team can do against a sufficiently hot goalie. :pinkieshrug:

Meanwhile, what I didn't expect was Mike Fisher coming back on the ice after retiring only last summer. I love how this photo from a press conference announcing it makes Lavy look like a saint of the hockey gods:

Yeah but the one he gave up was 100% his fault from a bone-headed play.
