Re: Hockey! NHL, KHL, AHL, and Every Other HL
I'm getting flashbacks to that time a few playoffs ago when it was us against the Blackhawks and they were worried because they had to put Scott Darling in net, but the pressure of being the backup goalie made him play completely out of his mind for a couple of games to give them that series. I feel like the same is happening now with the Avs and Andrew Hammond. We'll have to find some way to beat that this time around.

I'm trying!!!
Seriously, my hometown having an NHL team has really got me into the sport. I've watched more hockey this year than the past years of my life combined. Planning to watch Toronto vs. Boston tonight!
Still have some newbie questions, though. Example: is it the coaches that switches out the players, or is it the player's choice? Like a tired player can simply skate towards the bench and tag someone in. I can't tell how they communicate that since it seems quite smooth combined with (what it seems) no coaches barking around!

Re: Hockey! NHL, KHL, AHL, and Every Other HL
Ideally, the coaches decide when the lines go in and out, but if a player knows he's too exhausted or hurt to stay out there and there's a break in the action, then he'll skate back to the bench and someone hops in for him. Quick and smooth transitions on and off the ice are a huge part of the game and you'll often notice that a poorly timed line change can lead to scoring opportunities for the other team or a too many men on the ice penalty.stuff wrote: ↑Sat Apr 21, 2018 4:29 pmStill have some newbie questions, though. Dear Predators, because I'm a dummy who puts off schoolwork until the last minute, I couldn't watch tonight's game. Thank you for forgiving my transgression by winning and advancing.
I know that feel too, man. It was only a couple years ago that we, after putting up a big fight, got shut out 5-0 in a playoff elimination game.

Views for tonight:
1. Columbus.
2. Hooray for at least one game 7 in these playoffs.
3. Looks like the Penguins are getting another free pass to the ECF.

Caps vs Penguins again. Surely the Caps will turn it around THIS year.
Normally I'd have been rooting for Columbus, but I must say it's a relief to not hear about how Panarin is lighting everyone up anymore.

You know, sad as that final game was for the Avs, it really was an incredible season given where they were last year. I'm not too bummed about the whole thing.Fizzbuzz wrote: ↑Mon Apr 23, 2018 12:16 amDear Predators, because I'm a dummy who puts off schoolwork until the last minute, I couldn't watch tonight's game. Re: Hockey! NHL, KHL, AHL, and Every Other HL
On the plus side, at least the Bruins winning tonight turned the Blackhawks' 5th round pick in 2019 into a 4th rounder.
Also seeing the dirtiest player in the NHL getting completely clowned was entertaining too.

Draft Lottery Day!
I hope the Hawks get it, because not only do they desperately need Dahlin, but also it would make every non-Blackhawks fan SO MAD.

Top 3 picks go to Sabres, Hurricanes, and Canadiens, respectively.

Playoff hockey!
For real though, I hope those tickets are going into the hands of fans and not just straight to casinos and the rich. From what I've heard (in no small part through you, so thanks for your commentary there), it seems like the Golden Knights organization has done a good job building a fan base and creating genuine interest among the people of Las Vegas. Hopefully the ownership of the upcoming Seattle team will be able to do the same up there.

Felt good to be back on the ice after being out 2 weeks with a groin injury. I got tired way faster than usual, though.
They had a big figure skating show at the rink last week, so every square inch of space in the entire sports complex is now covered in glitter.

The second period in Jets/Preds was bonkers. And then the Jets immediately score 30 seconds into the third. This is entertaining as hell.

Re: Hockey! NHL, KHL, AHL, and Every Other HL
Well, that was a mess. This series has been close, but the Jets have just barely been one step ahead of us this whole time, and if it goes to game 7 then being one step ahead wins a series.
On the bright side, I got to see the game, sort of. I've actually been in Nashville since yesterday afternoon since I have an early flight to catch today, so after stuffing myself with hot chicken I headed downtown to see what was going on.
In a field surrounded by Bridgestone Arena, the Country Music Hall of Fame, a really fancy Hilton, and the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, there was an enormous screen showing the NBC broadcast of the game and a free watch party going on. The puck didn't drop until 8:30 and I had to get up at 6 this morning, so I only stayed most of the way through the second, but it was a lot of fun regardless.

Re: Hockey! NHL, KHL, AHL, and Every Other HL
I scored two more goals today in Rat Hockey! What would've been my hat trick bounced off the inside of the post. Fortunately, the rebound went right to my teammate who buried the easy goal. Also I'm going to blatantly ignore the fact that my atrocious defense probably cost our team more than the 2 goals I scored.
Bad news is even after taking 3 weeks off, my groin still feels tight when I play.
