I Started A Let's Play!
I made a Let's Play with my older brother! Come watch it, leave a like, do whatever else it is you do with LP's!
I could use any and all constructive criticism or compliments. This is my first time doing something like this and could use any support y'all have to offer.

It's both. The piston fires downward and the crank converts that linear force into a rotational motion. That rotation gets the flywheel going, and the momentum in the flywheel keeps the crankshaft turning so as to force the piston through the next 3 unpowered strokes before the piston fires again.
Of course in an engine with more than one cylinder you can time it so that cylinders are firing in the gaps where other cylinders are not. I can tell by the shape of this crankshaft that the four cylinders of the engine are probably timed so that there is one piston firing every half turn of the crankshaft, using a 1-3-4-2 firing order.

What is a head gasket? Gaskets are thin pieces that plug the gap made when two surfaces are pushed together. They're important when you need a seal against gases or liquids. Gaskets are everywhere. There'll be a rubber gasket in between the glass and the frame of the windows in your house. The head gasket plugs the gap between the cylinder head and the engine block, which is hugely important given that the cylinder head is where the combustion will be happening.
