Yes it's Star Wars!

A new Star Wars TV series has started, and it's pretty amazing.

People said that about DS9, and it ended up being the best Trek. :twiright:

Mid-Season finale was pretty awesome.

Two of the big fan theories have been proven correct. I'll admit I was on the fence about Lorca, just because the foreshadowing seemed a tad overdone. Still been quite a ride and I am wondering how they are going to wrap up the season.

I'm mixed on that...

On one hand. Yeah. Stop killing gay characters.

On the other hand, nothing about his death felt spiteful. He's the guy who figured it out, and it felt less... vindictive on the part of the writers than other gay deaths do in media.

So, season 2 just finished up, and it was pretty great. I enjoyed S1, but S2 ticked off most of the things I wanted to see improved.

- There was a bigger focus on stand alone episodes. There is certainly a season arc going, but in many episodes, it's more of a background thing to the primary story.

- MUCH more development of the supporting cast.

No spoilers, but the ending is one giant, fabulous middle finger to all the constant "but canon" whining. They nailed it.

Anson Mount was AMAZING as Captain Pike.

If you didn't care for S1, but want more Trek, give S2 a try, you might think better of it.

That season finale, omg. :allears: There'll be some nitpicks I'm sure, but I liked how it ended. And I, for one, can't wait to see what they'll do with season 3.

also pls can we haz Pike show?

I don't know if I'm the only one but I strongly dislike the Picard show.
Discovery is dumb but also fun at times it its own dumb way.

Picard is just dreary.

They killed Icheb :colbert:
Not the most glamorous character but one I liked.
Defenitely the character has deserved a more dignified future.

At this point I can only hate-watch the show.

They have a nice mystery being set up, but I'm finding the show a bit too bleak.

So far every returning character has been given a miserable 20 years, or outright killed.

Seven being a vigilante just seems wrong, and I wish she had been going by Annika instead of Seven.

Yeah. The misery is one thing that bummed me out, but also the whole federation has gone to crap where former Starfleet officers can be poor people forced to live in a crappy trailer. The federation is a somewhat fascist society but at least the technology was at that level to prevent garbage living conditions.
As a viewer I don't give a crap and I don't believe that Picard is that obsessed with Data's legacy. Those flesh android girls are booooring.
Also what's with the android uprising? Why do they have androids? They have perfectly adequate holograms to perform all the tasks.
Where are the Robert Picardo EMH?

And Patrick Steward's acting is horrible. He overacts. In. A. Theatrical. Way. And. Announces all the words. In. A. Staggered. Manner to the point it doesn't fit with the style of the rest of the cast. In the past he spoke more naturally. As if the director lets him loose without reigning him in.

When you see the Rotten Tomatoes site then most of the people seem to like it.
https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/star_trek_picard/s01

Sometimes I feel conflicted with my feelings towards a thing when the majority of people like that thing.
As if I am not (capable of) seeing the greatness of that thing.
It's definitely the other way around.

explanation: I like the episodic "whoa something spooky and mysterious is happening" type episodes that happened in TOS TNG and Voyager, but DS9 was mostly plot-relevant episodes

and ever since Enterprise they seem to have gone onto "all the episodes are plot-relevant"

And discovery and picard seem to be designed to be binge-watched so are like a step beyond every episode being plot-relevant and onto "each episode is part of a really long movie"

I'm pretty into ST:Picard myself, though I did find out for myself that the series is too... heavy for me to watch more than one episode of in one go. So it's definitely not bingeable for me. :v:

I'm glad I found that out early enough tho, because I found that out way too late with DS9.

I'm in a state of foaming rage after watching the season end.
The episodes before weren't good either but as the last episode it put the nail into the coffin to my final conclusion, and that conclusion is a full nerd rage. The whole series was filled with a nonsensical plot and insulting "fan service".

I need to vent :-/
I'm glad that Red Letter Media has some kindred spirits that share my opinion. :insomnia:
