The bots have graduated from Olive Garden commercials and are now writing cartoons.
Are these supposed to be younger versions of the characters, and that's why Bluto is clean shaven and Popeye toots a fucking whistle?!?

Popeye having a whistle instead of a pipe didn't even register to me
what did is that if popeye isn't going to punch bluto's shit into next tuesday and bluto's goal is to steal spinach, it sounds like this is going to get very dull very fast

Popeye is going to celebrate the 90th anniversary on January 2019. However, there's another celebration this year...
and it's Olive Oyl, who will turn 99 years old on December 19th. That's because Popeye didn't show up until 10 years later in the comic. The comic's original main characters were Olive and her brother Castor.

What’s next, are they gonna take Frosty the Snowman’s pipe and have him chewing healthy carrot sticks?

If Frosty didn’t want people trying to eat his nose, he shouldn’t have kept a tasty snack attached to his face when he could replace it with a stick or a pointy rock or something

Speaking of Frosty, I found out that the kids in the special were originally voiced by June Foray (who did Karen) and Paul Frees, only to be redubbed.
Although Foray's voice for the teacher was kept intact, so she didn't disappear entirely from the special.

Also, Frosty's nose wasn't made out of a carrot, but rather a button some random kid ripped off of his shirt

Wait a sec, that one kid was saying "Christopher Columbus" this whole time? For the life of me I could never make it out.
Now I wonder if the one kid randomly calling the Cheat "Christopher Columbus" in the Strong Bad Email "for kids" was a reference to that.

So speaking of reboots of old cartoons....
Joey Alison Sayers draws for The Nib, and Jonathan Lemon has a comic on GoComics.NYT wrote:The comic strip “Alley Oop,” starring a loin-cloth-wearing cave man of the same name, went into hibernation in September but will be back in January.
A new creative team, the writer Joey Alison Sayers and the artist Jonathan Lemon, will chronicle the exploits of the title hero six days a week, Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, they will tell the story of Li’L Oop, a new preteen version of Alley Oop that will focus on his early middle-school years.

I get they're trying to reach an audience without translating dialogue but it's weird not seeing Popeye comment on everything.

I'm pretty sure this is the version I'm used to, since it's the one Pandora has the rights to, since I was driving somewhere and got confused as to why Rocky kept talking to Rocky in this version of frosty the snowman

I've been reposting some of my older art onto a certain website because of reasons, and I just got to the one of Trixie drunkenly coming on to a trash can. And... God help me, I still think it's kind of a cute idea in its own demented way, and I wish I had gone ahead and expanded it out into a little comic like I was planning.

I had a bunch of Playmobil as a kid but since it just has less customization than LEGO, way less, it didn't have near enough of a staying power
of course they wanna get that LEGO Movie money though, good luck chasing that

Re: Garfield (Garbage) Dump Thread Episodie (?) A Nermal Dump
Also my brother took me to see Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse and it is so fucking good you guys, holy shit
This is the best American animated film in many, many years, even if you are not very into superheroes and all the Spider-Man easter eggs would fly over your head. I love that they took a fairly safe plot setup/genre and did something so stylistically bold and daring with it, and this has some of the best action animation I’ve ever seen. Like, up there with shit Glen Keane or Vladimir Tytla did. And it works because of the meta nature of the movie. And if you love character animation you have to see this. If you love the medium of comics (and not just superhero comics) you are going to enjoy how even the editing, shot composition, lighting, layouts and colors are influenced by comics. It’s kinetic and alive and the closest comparison I can make is the movie version of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, except the fight scenes in this are even more extreme. You would never be able to do the action sequences in this film justice in live action, but even small, low-key character scenes have the same vibrancy and aaaaaaa
It’s smart and good, and they treat Miles and his family with a lot of respect, and I don’t want to give away too much just see it if you can. It’s a movie that actually thinks about what it means to help people and love them and make sacrifices for them, and not just in the corny superhero genre movie way (although there is some of that, because it is about people who shot webs after all). Like there are some quibbles I have, but they were overridden by just how alive this movie feels.
Think about how often I write gush posts for individual movies these days and you’ll hopefully get an idea of why I was excited and blown away. I think this might be the best film I’ve seen this year, period, regardless of genre or medium, and it certainly is a huge cut above what Disney/Pixar and WB typically do with these properties. It’s a shame it’s not going to make as much as Incredibles 2 or Avengers or probably even Aquaman because it is a far, far better film
And for the record, I don’t think Incredibles 2 is a bad film at all, it’s quite good, Spider-Man is just that much better

Re: Garfield (Garbage) Dump Thread Episodie (?) A Nermal Dump
Watched the Spider-Man movie today. It was fun. The animation was great, and there were a lot of neat moments, and all the different Spider people had a chance to shine.
I don't know if I would consider it the best animated feature, though, but it was well made and fun. I'm not a fan of superhero films in general, but this did a good job entertaining me and I smiled (trust me, it takes a LOT for me to enjoy a superhero film).
It's very much the best Spider-Man film ever made, and for that alone it's worth watching.

The animation in all the trailers looked choppy, kinda like the Lego movie. Is it that way through the whole thing?

Yes. It is, however, in service of a deliberate style and after the first minute it stopped feeling jarring or out of place.
I just got back from the film and holy hell, it rules. It’s a terrific film on its own merits as well as a love letter to the Spider-Man concept.

It was the one I enjoyed the most this year, but keep in mind that I’ve only seen 2 animated features this year I probably oversold itMr. Big wrote: ↑Sat Dec 22, 2018 11:51 pmWatched the Spider-Man movie today. Edit: 3 animated features, I forgot the Incredibles 2. But I liked Spider-Man and Teen Titans Go more than the Incredibles. Haven’t seen Wreck It Ralph 2, don’t care about seeing Hotel Transylvania or Small Foot or The Grinch. I can’t remember if anything else got a theatrical release this year. I haven’t been paying attention. I stopped reading Cartoon Brew a long time ago.
