I got a letter from somebody in prison, asking if he could have any of my mini-comics for the prison zine library (he got my info from a zine that reviews other minis and zines).

I'll be happy to send him something, but yeah, this was out of nowhere.

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but someone in my neighborhood owns a Tesla Model S. One of the older ones from when they still had fake grills. I used to see it a fair bit in the parking lot of a local business (which, given that this is rural Ohio, there's a good chance he owns). Also, he has the "some asshole yanked my power plug while it was charging" alarm enabled and frequently leaves town overnight in some other vehicle. I know this because on two separate occasions, we've had a power outage at around bedtime and I could immediately hear a car alarm in the distance, which did not shut off for over half an hour.

I also have no idea why he even has the alarm enabled, since it's not like anyone around here doesn't have a garage. Either way, methinks the wall adapter ought to have a backup battery to allow it to keep pinging the car with reassurance that it's technically still plugged in even if it's not sending power.

Wait, does this mean that furries who are artists/some kind of designer and have a fursona are the vast majority of furries? That sounds like so much effort I'm surprised, if true.

you can replace 2 with "commision an artist to draw your idea" and friends can also help you with any design challenges even before that

plus, it's not like you need a fursona, it's just a lot of people like having them

i started three months ago and what i did was download a bunch of screenshots from steven universe and just try to draw one each day

even if i missed some, sometimes even missing a whole week, i still have been seeing improvement

so like, i dunno, if i had a suggestion it's just try it and see what happens

Anyone can do draw, write, cook, etc. It takes talent and passion to do those things well.

I mean, with comics ideas and writing IS the most important part. Otherwise things like XKCD wouldn't become huge hits. And if you've checked out the "Arnold" thread I did, that strip had a cult following, but the drawings in the strip were on the, um, "naive" side. Really, you just need to be consistent with it.

I know you can write well, Madeline, and you have great ideas. If you need help with comics, you know how to contact me.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that the world of comics is full of people who can write and can't draw, and people who can draw and can't write, and of those two only the former ever end up creating anything worthwhile. Of the comics I can think of that are known for great artwork and bad writing, they are all of a highly questionable nature and almost all of their creators eventually pivoted to drawing equally-questionable commissions full time.

I think another thing about who who-can-draw-but-can't-write is that some of them really just use comics as a way of building up their portfolio for illustration gigs (whether for comic books or something unrelated to comics). I always get he feeling that they aren't really interested in comics all that much, at least enough to make it a regular thing they do, and just use it as a stepping stone for better things.

Perhaps I'm oversimplifying, but that's my 2 cent.

Seriously. create what makes you happy, no matter how silly or bad you think it should make you feel because you think random snarky assholes on the internet will hate it. if you're creating for yourself, really MAKE it for yourself, what do their dumbass opinions matter on something that is uniquely you and makes you happy

the only judgement at that point is: Did making this make me feel something positive in some shape or form? Did I make progress with something, did I invest my effort in something I care about? then you did it right

doesn't matter if you wrote 5 words or War and Peace, doesn't matter if you drew your fursona or you painted the Sixtine Chapel, if you fucking loved that shit then you win

if you have any reason at all to enjoy what you made, hell yeah, embrace it, internet cynicism can go eat a cactus
