gardening comes down to several factors and is at some point just kinda out of your control because nature will be nature, so try to go for it and just see what happens

my mom has what feels like a trillion years of gardening experience and she still gets things that just don't work out as hoped, it's normal

I love plants but I have the curse of pestilence. I tried growing an indoor palm plant once and its roots got infested with bugs. It wasn't looking too healthy so I tried flushing them out, applying insecticide and re potting the plant. This was all too much shock for the plant, which died shortly after. I had a cactus which I thought would be resilient enough. It turned brown and I have no idea what the hell.

I tried tomatoes and potatoes once in our garden, turns out there's blight in our soil

I should try again but put them in a bag this time.

When I have my own room I think I'll buy a crapload of plants. Surely a handful of them will survive then ?

i grow a small garden that only consists of plants found in the mojave desert ama

8 plants atm, 1 seed packet was a dud, i failed and brutally murdered 2 plants

What are your growing right now and how are they doing?

Also, the first plant I tried to grow was a fern. It withered and died and I don’t know why. No infestations, no obvious disease, it just was brown one day when I got home from classes.

Desert globemallow largest of them all so far; pink flowers; bees are common!!!
Brittlebush yellow flowers
Desert marigold yellow flowers; thought I lost it until it turned green and flowered!
Creosote bush my personal fav as it gives off a v pleasant smell after a nice rain
Desertbell eye-catching deep blue flowers that only last a few days; grew from seeds
California poppy state flower of CA, but still grows in NV!; grew from seeds
Banana yucca looks dry right now, hopefully it's still good
Strawberry hedgehog cactus obligatory cactus

(Trying to grow the firecracker penstemon but no luck. however, they're only $3 a pop at the local nursery. they should do well here, but who knows)

since these are native to the NV desert, growing them is a piece of cake as they are well adapted to the sun/heat so necessary watering is infrequent. i just plant em, give 'em their first water, then leave 'em be. No responsibility!

We grow herbs on our deck for the 4 months of the year when it's viable in Chicago. It's nice not having to pay for basil, parsley, thyme, green onions, etc. and not needing to wonder if it's fresh.
