She kinda looks like Magilou. Which is the video game anime version of Trixie. :smug:

And she's amazing and perfect.

Hey nerds, I have a tabletop game going over in O&O. It's a strategy game where you shuffle pieces around a map and get conquered by Rome. Or as Rome. Whichever works. I only need one more so someone sign up. Please.

Semi-related, just yesterday I saw a food delivery guy wearing a BronyCon lanyard. I was able to briefly congratulate him and say "see you in Baltimore" before he went on this way.

Anyone remember the "Baby Blues" cartoon that aired for a short-time on the WB (and later Adult Swim)?

I guess this is a good example of taking a source material and turning it into more edgy adaptation. In this case, they took a (relatively) family-friendly comic strip and turned it into an edgier and sexier prime-time sitcom.

Not that the show was terrible, but having read the strip, the contrast is a bit stark. Also, the show had a whole cast of characters that never appeared in the strip, most notably the Bitterman family.

(in spite of that, though, this was probably one of the most tame series to ever air on Adult Swim).

The new coloring method seems to be working. I managed to color 10 comic pages in 5 hours, and they seem to look nice to other people.

(still got 9 more pages left to color. You can do this, Big :-I )

I don't know what this guy is on about. I remember plenty of fairly deep cuts in the early seasons. There were entire episodes centered around Age of Conan (which he literally shows a clip from) and the 1960s adaptation of The Time Machine, among other things. Not to the extent that it would have alienated the audience—since Penny gave them an excuse to explain all the references—but the effort was there. It made the jokes about the characters being losers feel more like self-deprecation on the part of genuinely geeky writers.

In a way, that's even worse, though, because it means the token female character is treated as the dumb one for not getting all the references. Kind of like exactly how geek culture operates in real life.

What I'm saying is, either you're meant to laugh at the nerds for being nerds or you're meant to laugh at Penny for not being a nerd. I don't think there's a workable middle ground.

Yesterday I was taking my the-weather's-nice-for-a-change-and-I-need-some-freaking-exercise walk, and I saw a skunk crossing the street right in front of me. Never seen one IRL before. It was cute.

Also, I now have a decent-sized TV. My second-cousin gave it to me saying it was busted but I could keep it if I could fix it. As I suspected, it was just a dead (and visibly bulging) capacitor. PSA: Knowing someone who owns a soldering iron can save you a lot of money replacing electronics.

Sometimes I think about various pieces of old art that I once posted on the forums, years ago, and I have to stop myself for a moment or two and remind myself that it's in the past now. Yes, it was something of a mess while I was finding a consistent style and when I was simply not as good, but that was then. What matters is that, hopefully, I've learned from it.

also, just because you improved since doesn't mean the old stuff loses value and purpose! people still enjoy that stuff too even if you largely see the flaws and nothing else now

Yeah, there are people who still find the comic and read through them, so they're not going anytime soon.

I guess the plus side is that it's proof even I improved over the years :-I

He'd probably also be kind of upset that the only painting of his that most people have heard of is some 9-inch portrait he did on commission for some random guy one time.

Let’s face it, with all the activities that we and our kids are involved in these days it’s getting harder and harder to get everyone to spend quality time together. And if you ARE fortunate enough to get everyone on the same couch, finding something to watch as a family (without having to hide everyone’s eyes from certain subjects) can be even more difficult, right?

Well, Hollywood industry veteran Butch Hartman has a solution for you. It’s called OAXIS ENTERTAINMENT: a 24/7 streaming entertainment platform with a mission to re-connect families and bring them back together. This vision was carefully created with YOUR family in mind. We’ll have something for everyone: Sitcoms! Drama Series! Animation! Home & Garden shows! Reality shows! Fitness! Feature Films! Documentaries! Plus a “User Upload” Feature that will allow YOU to upload your very own family-friendly videos!

I didn't realize watching TV counted as quality family time? It's like something Homer and the kids would agree to in The Simpsons but then Marge would get mad.

I mean, "quality family time" could be literally anything; why does it have to be something as unengaging as television?

I was at the Champaign, IL show where they did "Stuck in the Middle With You", and it was great. Al can be energetic even when he's sitting in a chair (he did the whole show seated, pretty much) and his voice is stronger than ever.

Here's another straight cover:

All you need to do is look at tumblr or Archive Of Our Own to put the lie to the notion that television is necessarily unengaging or passive. You just need everyone to be huge nerds about it

I accidentally stumbled across the solution to creating authentic OPL2 music (as heard in late '80s-early '90s PC games, similar in sound to the Sega Genesis): an actual program from the era called AdLib Visual Composer. It pretty much functions like the piano roll editor from any modern MIDI editor, albeit with a few limitations—no changing the time signature mid-song, no triplets or dotted notes, and of course only one note at a time per track (since that's all the OPL2 could do). And it runs fine in DOSBox, so I don't have to hunt down any vintage equipment just to use it.

My dad asked me if I had a copy of the movie called The Barefoot General, because he saw a clip of it on Youtube. I told him I had never even heard of such a movie. He said that I had to, because I had the comic of it. I told him I had no such comic. He brought the comic to me to prove it.

It was Barefoot Gen :facehoof:
