Trying to write a horror story.

The hardest part is trying to avoid making it seem like I'm being "edgelord" on purpose. Not the easiest :-I

Also trying to decide if a cartoony art style would work for a horror comic.

Might work with comedy/horror, I guess :ponder:

Yes if you draw white on black.

Or just go really heavy on the black.

Seriously when I think of horror in comics I think big thick angular lines and the black just bleeds into anything which casts a shadow.

The thing about horror art is that a lot of horror is in the details of an image. Artists like HR Giger and Junji Ito thrive on horrific details in their art being a huge source of the horror. That's not to say that a detailed horror art-style is necessary for the horror genre, though. A lot of horror feeds off of the fear of the unknown, that which can never be known, and other existential horrors. So you can get away with a minimalist depiction of horrible things so long as the implication of the horror is there and clearly evident.

If I ever succeed at making something that becomes popular, this is about how I expect it to go.

I wonder if this is ever an issue for creators who create family friendly content after years of doing not-for-kids work.

"I'd recommend interested readers keep an eye on [sanitized social media channel for promoting the popular thing] for news about what we've got coming up." Dodge the issue by pivoting toward future content while leaving the audience wanting more. Easy. :twiright:

First you make them care (for the characters), then you make them suffer (with the characters).

Daaaaang.

Now I'm thinking about the single best comic strip of all time, and it was the winner of that contest they had for a fan to fill in the speech balloons.

I just watched the series finale of Adventure Time. It was, as for series endings standards, very uninspiring and it lacked the thought the series usually had. It was just rushed to get to a conclusion.
Recently I read the Adventure Time comic 3 part mini-series "Beginning of End" and it would have been a more worthy ending of the animated series.
It wasn't bad but the fact that it was uninspiring makes it bad in some way, which makes me feel disappointed.

Similar to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Avatar The Last Airbender the series will continue in comic form.

You're the first person I've heard express disappointment with it. While I haven't kept up with Adventure Time (and thus haven't seen most of the show, including the finale), the hype around the show ending has made me curious to watch the full thing at some point.

In other news, the Bojack Horseman Season 5 trailer finally dropped. :-P
