"Love me. Feed me. Don't leave me." is a pretty depressing slogan.

Re: I still cannot understand that Garfield Eats is real
the website is like the conglomeration of the worst of everything from both 90s, 2000s, and 2010 web design.
from the 90s:
looping autoplay of a wav of an unlooped song that is super annoying
loud colors implemented with little thought given to what purpose they serve
from the 2000s:
javascript that restricts and redirects scrolling in a dumb way
autoplaying videos
from the 2010s:
A ZENDESK CHAT APP!?!?!?
ancillary menus that serve no rational purpose
this thing seems more like like a vaporwave art project than a real product

There is no such thing as ethical consumption under Garfield.

On the Internet, no one knows that you are a dog. Except Garfield.

What kind of captcha can filter out dogs? How can we keep our websites safe?

COPPA. Officially, it's illegal in the US for kids to use the Internet without their parents' permission, and websites that allow interpersonal communication or might collect personal information have to not do that if the user is a kid. So sites that do that stuff have to ask. Not sure what features the Garfield website would have that require them to comply with that, but that's what this is, an attempt at putting a "funny" skin on that.

Okay, so Garfield's been haunting a beach in France for several decades and they only recently realized what caused it.

despite only just learning this for the first time, i'm disappointed that this wasn't actually some sort of long-term prank or arg or somethingMr. Big wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 9:57 amOkay, so Garfield's been haunting a beach in France for several decades and they only recently realized what caused it.

Guess what's open now? That's right!
We tried the pizza and lasagna at new Garfield-themed restaurant in Toronto. We have some questions
We tried the pizza and lasagna at new Garfield-themed restaurant in Toronto. We have some questions
Canadian entrepreneur behind GarfieldEATS wants to disrupt fast-food, one lasagna at a timeI ordered a large “peroni” pepperoni pizza ($16) and a slab of “Big Cow” lasagna ($18), which is described on the menu as “a generous size of lasagna rich in delicious creamy bechamel sauce filled with our ‘cowboy cut’ strips of rib eye.” There are no chairs or tables at the restaurant (it’s supposed to be a mobile restaurant, after all) so I took a cab back to the Star’s office.
I counted six pepperoni slices on the entire pizza and as a co-worker bit into a slice, she said, “I’m not sure if I ate the pizza or the box. The crust was really cardboardy and the pepperoni didn’t taste real.”
The lasagna didn’t quite match what I saw on the menu, either. The “cowboy cut strips” looked more like ground beef and I couldn’t taste any of the tomato sauce that’s pictured on the lasagna on the menu.
So apparently the whole point is that people are hopefully going to love Garfield enough that they're going to incidentally order shit as they keep coming back to the app to read Garfield strips and play Garfield games. All for the sake of growth! GROWTH!The idea for a Garfield-themed food-delivery app and restaurant, which Mr. Mazri says has been using Dubai as a test market for about a year, might come across as absurd, but the CEO believes he can use one of the world’s most recognizable animated characters to resuscitate the lagging quick-service restaurant segment. This is where “entergagement” comes in – GarfieldEATS is betting on people opening the app over and over to play games and watch the 1990s Garfield and Friends TV show, ordering food as part of the experience.
[...]
Whether it’s built to last, however, depends on Mr. Mazri converting some 200 million daily-newspaper Garfield readers into regular diners, starting in Toronto. If things pan out in Toronto, he hopes to add other cities such as New York, Los Angeles or Montreal.
“I haven’t seen anything quite like this, but I like what he’s doing,” said Robert Carter, an industry adviser for the food-service sector with The NPD Group. The “entergagement” strategy, Mr. Carter said, could help GarfieldEATS avoid the sluggish 1-to-2-per-cent annual growth of the traditional restaurant industry in Canada, and play in the much more competitive digital-delivery marketplace, which he said has more than 20-per-cent annual growth. “The battle is: How do you get consumers more engaged?” Mr. Carter said. “This is pretty playful.”

I guess they're counting on people liking Garfield more than disliking the food.
