Decide beforehand what you're going to do on each day. Conventions suck when you're just idling around a crowd wondering what to do, but if you go in with something fun planned then you can get a lot out of the time.

Be mindful that some events may be suiting only.

If you have a 'sona, get a con badge made with your sona and your furname on it to hang around your neck. People are more likely to remember who you are and you won't have to go through the awkward description. "well I'm like a grey cat but with pink sparkles and pink paws who wields a scepter with tassels that shoot butterflies"

Con art is often sold at a markup. Contrary to what I said earlier, getting a con badge commissioned now might be a bad idea if everyone in your area is trying to do the same for this con. Wait for the quiet periods to get your commissions in. Also I'd advise against commissioning from an artist who's like "my life is falling apart and I need money RN" if you're actually wanting art and not just wanting to give charity. I've commissioned three such artists and they never got the work done. In fact, the only pic I've actually got of my character from another artist is from a guy I know who did it for kicks.
