in the ref it's actually meant to be a messenger bag but the artist for that piece read it as a handbag

I should get myself a new messenger bag. Had some when I was a kid, frigging loved them. Not great for heavy loads but they're a better fashion accessory than a normal backpack

Why even have a tag for that anyway? If you think the artist sucks, that's what downvoting is for.

Yeah. Like I get critiquing art, but having that as a tag is a bit "goony".

Bronibooru doesn't have a user named Fritz.

Re: πΊπ½ furry thread 2: reminder the correct pronunciation of gif is "yiff"
At what point does it stop being an error and start being a deliberate choice on the part of the artist?
Consider how I draw pegasi, for example. I've always given them small floating wings instead of their canon appearance or wings actually big enough for flying like a lot of pony artists do. Part of it is because I think it's cute, part of it's a deliberate statement on how I view Equestria as a highly magical cartoon fantasy world where a lot of stuff "shouldn't" work but does anyway, and part of it was me wanting to do something different as compared to what I'd seen lots of other artists do. Does that count as an error because it's different from canon or less realistic in general (for as realistic as a horse with a bird's wings can be)?

i think as long as it doesn't result in the art looking off, it's fine

Re: πΊπ½ furry thread 2: reminder the correct pronunciation of gif is "yiff"
That's the most important part. To use Durandal as an example, nearly all the art he's posted in this thread and its previous incarnation has been of the highly realistic sort, so the standard there is going to be a lot tighter than most. Heavily toony art on the other end of the spectrum has a lot more room for variance and thus calls for consideration of the artist's vision, whether any particular odd feature is something the artist missed or didn't know about vs. whether it was intentional.DaikatunaRevengeance wrote: βFri Jul 26, 2019 8:15 ami think as long as it doesn't result in the art looking off, it's fine

I was going to add that sometimes there's also character-specific details that might seem like a mistake if you're not familiar with the character in question, but as soon as I wrote that in my previous post I immediately thought of a way to illustrate it instead.
In my ponysona's case, usually I actually do draw a full pony or humanoid figure during one of the first sketch passes, then just not draw a lot of him in the rest of the process.

I know he's (probably) supposed to be pointing at his lack of legs but it looks almost like he's flipping me the birdFizzbuzz wrote: βFri Jul 26, 2019 3:36 pmI was going to add that sometimes there's also character-specific details that might seem like a mistake if you're not familiar with the character in question, but as soon as I wrote that in my previous post I immediately thought of a way to illustrate it instead.

incidentally your art is looking good, it definitely looks smoother and better composed than I've seen in previous pictures of him

Re: πΊπ½ furry thread 2: reminder the correct pronunciation of gif is "yiff"
This was the second horribly smug pose I thought of, with the left hand cocked on the hip (not necessarily pointing), but between the angle and the large, stubby fingers I draw for anthro ponies I suppose it's not as clear as it would be IRL. For pictures like this I at least have the luxury of standing in front of a mirror and acting out what I'll draw, but that doesn't mean every nuance will fully translate over to a character who ultimately is still a talking cartoon pony and not a human. Something to keep in mind for the future, I suppose.
My first thought was a crossed-arms pose but that doesn't work on account of having no arms.

To clarify: I was using the tag for images that were technically good but had nonsensical anatomy. But yeah, in retrospect it was a bit goony

Well I guess you could make the case for having an "escher_girl_pose" tag for this particular case, and others like it that no doubt exist on whatever site this is.

gotta say it's at least refreshing to have that pose being on an (apparently) masculine body for a change
