I saw those two at BronyCon outside the "How to Become a Furry" panel (featuring Brony Celebrity JHaller). So many people wanted to get in on that panel that we had to shut the doors and only let people in later as some of those who got in at the start left.

honestly much as I know (hope?) it's a joke, this sort of stuff rubs me the wrong way
like... it's okay. ponyfans can be ponyfans and furries can be furries. they're clearly similar in many ways, but you can choose to play up those similarities if you want (all the way up to roleplaying a furry in a pony world or vice versa, which is something i've participated in) or you can choose to mostly leave them aside.
it's okay.
just be yourself.

one doesn't need to be a diet version of the other (which is actually a good thing insofar as it's literally just a healthier way of getting a sufficiently similar subjective experience, even though I'm sure the quasi-fox there didn't have that in mind)

Re: πΊπ½ furry thread 2: reminder the correct pronunciation of gif is "yiff"
I saw it in good faith, really. As you say, bronies and furries are incredibly similar, so to me it came off as an invitation to take part in more fan-created activities and media revolving around talking cartoon animals. The phrasing of the PONY IS OVER sign is maybe just a little more harsh than necessary, but far from what would feel like malice to me.
Hi gay (and a furry), I'm Fizzbuzz.

I get what you mean, Bigdog, but from what I saw of those guys at BronyCon it was all in good fun and a bit self-deprecating too considering how many people in pony-fursuits and furry-fursuits were at the con

obviously anyone should do as they please with their fandoms and interests, it was just genuinely funny how many furries were at BronyCon, so the overlap was obviously there too

Re: πΊπ½ furry thread 2: reminder the correct pronunciation of gif is "yiff"
It's one of those things where even if the individual means it jokingly/in good fun it's going to trigger a poe's law thing for people who have seen that sort of sentiment expressed unironically and are tired of it.
As I said, it just rubbed me the wrong way a little. I wouldn't try to get those people ejected from a con or anything but it definitely does provoke a reaction from me based on its resemblance to forms of mild-to-moderate toxicity I've experienced in fandoms over the years.

I can't find that article about some furries going to a pony convention and trying to ask people questions like, "What's your ponysona?" and getting blank stares.Perrydotto wrote: βFri Oct 18, 2019 5:57 pmobviously anyone should do as they please with their fandoms and interests, it was just genuinely funny how many furries were at BronyCon, so the overlap was obviously there too

have to say it was a pretty surreal experience reading a book on naturalistic philosophy by a theoretical physicist and suddenly finding furries and otherkin being (briefly) talked about

Part of a chapter on identity and how we perceive and talk about it. He spends most of the short chapter talking about stuff like gender identity (on which his viewpoints are generally good, thankfully) and then segues into stuff like furries at the end.

Drew this for a group I'm in. I was the one who suggested the prompt, so I kinda had to draw it

When you think you're "normal" but go to a furry con out of "curiosity".

It took a little while for the tweet to load. While I was waiting, I was trying to guess what the squeaking was about. Somehow it never occurred to me that talking animal-people might actually sound like their species!

Re: πΊπ½ furry thread 2: reminder the correct pronunciation of gif is "yiff"
So, I just realized that as of a few days ago, it's been a year since Poppy O'Possum last updated. It just kinda fizzled out in the middle of a big climactic arc with not a word from the creator in the last 9 months.
It's a shame, because it was probably the best furry webcomic I've ever read. It had good action, good humor, stellar art, fantastic world-building, and a cute central romance that isn't just shoved into things out of obligation.
Anyway, I'm sure most people here are familiar with it, but if you're not, it still ran for 5 years with 7 completed arcs and is plenty worth checking out. Just be aware that it never gets the conclusion it deserved.

Re: πΊπ½ furry thread 2: reminder the correct pronunciation of gif is "yiff"
The artist has posted occasionally in the SA Web comics thread, mostly when people are complaining about how the comic just up and died, to tell them not to jump to conclusions about the behind-the-scenes stuff. But yeah, the comic itself was the sweet spot for that story, and turning it into a Web novel, then abandoning that, doesn't seem to have worked out.

Re: πΊπ½ furry thread 2: reminder the correct pronunciation of gif is "yiff"
The web novel shift, in concept, wasn't a bad idea. The guy was clearly buckling under the pressure to put out a bunch of art and just wanted to tell his story before he burnt out, and his prose was good enough to carry the story for the short time he tried it, but it clearly wasn't the silver bullet to his workload problems that he thought it was.
