Eurogamer does something like that: Late to the Party. It's bloody hilarious 9 out of 10 times.Pocket wrote: βWed Jun 27, 2018 2:08 pmI think I may have stumbled onto the ideal formula for a Let's Play series: There are always at least two hosts, the player (who has no prior experience with the game) and the co-pilot (who has played through it already). This way you get the benefits of a blind playthrough, minus the frustration of watching someone be stuck for a long time or miss something important because the co-pilot is there to help if necessary. Plus they can offer the occasional piece of trivia or commentary that only a veteran can provide. And unlike a Twitch chat, they aren't going to spoil anything.

I imagine the veteran would give blatantly bad advice from time to time for the entertainment value, or they'd just remain silent in places where there's something the new player really ought to know. It's a design for a lot of good chemistry.

That formula was used to good effect when Vinesauce Vinny played Sonic 3 for the first time.
Very math.

Isn't it basically GameGrumps? I mean Arin isn't the best player but Dan takes more often the backseat role and is the one who is oblivious to the whole current gaming scene. The only gaming competence Dan is assigning to himself is the whole gaming era before the SNES.

The whole "straight man and the wise guy" dynamic is as old as time.
The original Men In Black movie is a solid example of this.

Sorry if this is a bit heavy for this thread but it's something that's been nagging at me lately: Is Teen Girl Squad misogynistic?

I don't think so. It's riffing on the sexist archetypes of teen girl-focused media, not reinforcing or promoting them.

You know how Chinese immigrants tend to give their kids white-sounding names and white Americans give their adopted Chinese babies Chinese names? I'm now imagining two Chinese Americans meeting each other and being like "Hi, I'm Randall Chang" "I'm Mei-Ling McCree" and then there's just this awkward pause and I can't stop laughing.

At work today I was wondering what it'd be like if chess was livestreamed but had commentary like you'd get on a twitch stream.

What if we had Twitch Plays Chess, where a bot watches the Twitch chat and grabs valid moves that it sees for each side in turn?

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
There are industrial scale laundry services. These are places that will wash the bedlinen from hundreds of hotels at once, or that will wash the uniforms from chefs kitchens, industrial units, transport firms: anywhere that has a mandatory uniform and laundry service. If you've seen Breaking Bad you'll have seen brief glances of the inside of these places. Clearly there's a cost effectiveness to this scale, else hotels would be operating their own washing machines as opposed to using these services.
I wonder if you could get Amazon to deliver some identity tags to your door like those which are used to identify individual garments in these laundry services. You'd stitch these into your clothes, then you'd drop off your dirty clothes at an amazon locker and they'd send everyone's stuff to industrial units like these before sorting them using the tags and delivering them to the same locker stacks. Or to your door for an additional cost.
You wouldn't need to build a lot of new infrastructure, you'd just need to get Amazon to partner with some industrial cleaners and work out a test run somewhere to see if it works. I think the costs could be low if there's a reasonable scale to it. If the costs were low, I'd be very down with this. I work at a factory which has a uniform and uses a laundry service and you get used to waiting a week for your clothes.

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
hmm I did some googling and it looks like there's a UK startup called Laundrapp that's trying to do this kind of thing. Β£2 an item is steep though. If you're wearing trousers, a shirt, underpants and a pair of socks each day, that's Β£56 a week. Then every other week you're throwing in your bedlinen and your bath towels. At some point you'll have jackets to wash.
I guess this is viable if you wear nothing but morphsuits and sleep in a hammock.

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
Based on my experience working at a summer camp that outsourced large scale laundry services for the entire 200+ group of faculty and kids, it's impossible to keep track of individual items without frequent screw ups. Every week a few garments would be in the wrong bags (even mixed between cabins, so one of the seniors could have something from the little kid side, halfway across campus), and about a third of the bags would have something completely missing. It was atrocious. By the end of two months everybody was missing half of their socks.West Filly wrote: βSun Jul 08, 2018 12:10 pmThere are industrial scale laundry services.
