Random thought of today: Are vegan sweets healthy? Not a serious question but it came randomly up when I ate a 200 gram bag full of sour vegan jellies.
I like them because they have the right chewing consistency because they use starch instead of gelatine.

Nothing stops me from wanting to die or acting like an asshole to,push people away from me. Because I find pretty much every interpersonal encounter to be terrifying, because it’s only a matter of time before people decide they don’t want to deal with me anymore. Nobody can stand to stay around me for very long. They always go away in the end. I don’t blame them.
Nothing about this world has ever made sense to me. I’m sorry I failed yet again to live up to what people wanted out of me.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but that's not the metric by which you should judge yourself. None of us ultimately comes out ahead by playing that game. No, not even the people who currently appear to be succeeding. Everyone stumbles and falls. And if you saw someone else stumbling and falling, you'd have compassion for them, wouldn't you? So have compassion for yourself. You're worth it.

This, so much! You're a wonderful person, even if you stumble and fall (which happens to everyone anyway so)!Bigdog wrote: ↑Thu Nov 01, 2018 1:53 amI'm sorry you feel that way, but that's not the metric by which you should judge yourself. I didn't like the style for Frisky Dingo and I still don't like it. Something about it is weirdly stiff.

When I was posting about being a fraud, I kinda wasn’t wrong. I didn’t want to come off as hating the show or it’s fans, so I was posting in episode threads as if I’d seen them, which was a shitty and dishonest thing to do.
I’m sorry.

There is something between hating and loving something, you know? You don't owe anyone posts in the episode threads or attention. Not interacting with something is not disapproval. You don't have to pressure yourself to fit in.

You know there's sometimes the smell of burning metal if you turn on a heater after not using it for a long time?
Apparently I've waited so long that it not only did that, but it also set off the smoke alarm.

That happened to me this season too. I'd never had the smoke alarm go off either but apparently it's not unheard of.

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
I wonder if anyone has tried recreating famous NES themes on a Commodore 64 with that dual-sound-chip mod. People always say they sound different, but I've never gotten a good handle on how different exactly, or how close you can make it with enough effort. In particular, the Shovel Knight soundtrack would be an easy one to attempt since you can buy the Famitracker source files and get the exact notation and a lot of the voice settings that way.

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
You ever just start playing out a scene in your head? For no particular reason, I started thinking about the huntsman from Snow White and imagined him in his room trying to get into character to deliver the box with the fake heart to the queen. He decides that the most convincing thing he can do is to pretend to be sad and guilt-ridden at what he had to do, so he starts method acting. He imagines himself in the forest, actually doing the deed, down to the slightest gruesome detail. That does the trick. Now sufficiently miserable, he picks up the box and slowly trudges to the queen's chambers. The queen is quite pleased, and comments that he has given her that which she most desires, and that a deed like that deserves a reward. But her smug tone sets off something inside him, and—
Moments later, he's kneeling over the queen's dead body. "Blimey," he says to himself. "I think I got a bit too into that."
That's... not how I was expecting it to play out. What the hell, my brain?

Like, pretty much every ponyskit I’ve ever posted is thinking of a concept and then letting the characters take it in some weird direction.
Some writers — by no means all, but some — work this way: you’ll hear anecdotes like the author intended to take the plot one way but the characters “insisted” on their own, different path.

This is me. No matter how hard I try to stick to a plot outline, it always goes in a different direction than I intended once I start. The more I flush out the characters, the more they take over and move things in a different direction that I didn’t see coming.Mechanical Ape wrote: ↑Fri Nov 16, 2018 1:38 pmLike, pretty much every ponyskit I’ve ever posted is thinking of a concept and then letting the characters take it in some weird direction.

Scene thinking is also the starting point for most of the stories I’ve written. Something will randomly pop into my head when I’m bored, or I’ll have a really vivid dream. I’ll build around it and see if I can use it for something. Even unusable ones have produced characters or basic setups for a story.
That’s also another reason to scoff at people who want to be “the idea guy.” Ideas are cheap. You want an idea? All you have to do is pay attention to the world around you, and even if it takes you a long time because you’re not in the habit of doing so, you’ll get an idea. Turning an idea into a tangible piece of work is the hard part.

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
I saw that Bill Maher piece on Stan Lee. Apart from the usual “nobody should care about what Bill Maher thinks about anything ever,” is he seriously convinced that people in the ‘70s only read Saul Bellow and watched serious dramas like Five Easy Pieces? Dude, most people were staying home and watching garbage like The Love Boat on TV. If they read books at all, they were reading the same kinds of big old airport bookstore novels they read today, like Clive Cussler or whatever. “Disco Duck” sold 2 million copies. The comics and cartoons of today are a step up over 90% of what was actually popular in the ‘70s. It was the decade of the Pet Rock and mood rings, for crying out loud.
Even when Maher isn’t being a bigoted asshole, he still finds a way to be smarmy and smug about something while also not comprehending it at the same time. If he thinks you can’t like both pop culture and “high” culture (which is a classist assumption in and of itself) he can come look at my bookcase and herniate himself being a smug old angry bigoted doofus man while I have my comics collections alphabetized alongside Kurt Vonnegut and James Baldwin and Alice Munro. People settled this stupid debate when film studies became a thing in the 1960s.
