Dunno what's special about 96, other than it being an even multiple of 12

I'm so glad that America and the rest of the world can at least unite over temperatures so cold that we'd all freeze to death in them.

I got invited to join a furry APA. It actually looks pretty interesting, and has a long history in the fandom. I figure it's worth a shot and trying out for one issue to see how I fare.
Lots of old-school furry artists and animators are members, so I'd probably fit in well.

I know that the furry fandom has its issues, but I don't think they need their own branch of the American Psychological AssociationMr. Big wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 9:54 pmI got invited to join a furry APA. There's some very loud wind going on right now, but looking outside you'd hardly know it. I guess it's because there are no leaves on the trees to catch the wind and.... sort of act like sails? Snow's not getting kicked up either. It's the weirdest thing.

so here's my idea, we put all game developers everywhere on a bus (it's a really big bus)
the bus has a bomb that explodes if any of the developers release a game in a genre where there's already an established game, without meaningfully improving on the first game

Been seeing commercials for The Grand Tour that use the Joe Cocker version of "With a Little Help from My Friends", and I'm like... it's interesting how even the Beatles weren't immune to someone doing a cover of one of their songs and having it get bigger than the original. Though I guess with the sheer volume of well-known songs they did over their career, it might have been all but inevitable.

I might go to the post office a lot. I was looking for a receipt for a package I sent recently to get the tracking number, and I kept finding old post office receipts when looking through my room, some of them dating back to 2017.

You know what feature would be neat for a web browser to have? If instead of just recording my history as a series of isolated page visits, it traced exactly what links I followed, so I could pull up a page and be like "Where did I first find this?" and it would tell me.
It would have to not overwrite the records for the page whenever I go back to it, mind you.

Websites used to do this. Every URL click would also generate a "referral" that gave the exact page where the link that was clicked was.

Some web stats still do that. I have StatCounter for my webcomic and I can see where people found my site, etc. Not all referrals get listed, but most are there.Factory Factory wrote: ↑Tue Feb 12, 2019 1:45 amWebsites used to do this. I saw an adult woman waiting on a corner wearing a burger king crown today, and she could've either been a whimsical soul leading her best life, or someone suffering from a horrific mental illness. And probably other possibilities as well, of course, but those are the two my mind pinballed between.

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
Something I'm wondering about.
In "The Flintstones", cameras work by having a bird inside carve a picture with their beaks.
Now, movies exist in the Flintstones universe. Heck, the famous opening theme song has the Flintstones and the Rubbles going to a Drive-In theater.
So how do movie cameras work? Have a bird paint thousands of tiny pictures on a film strip as it passes through?

If I recall, in the Discworld book Moving Pictures, where "photography" had involved a quick-fingered imp in a box, the newly-invented movie cameras took a sort of assembly-line approach where N imps would paint every Nth frame each.Mr. Big wrote: ↑Sat Feb 16, 2019 2:25 pmSomething I'm wondering about.

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
So there's a movie... coming out? Just came out? ...called Yesterday where a guy wakes up in an alternate universe where the Beatles never existed but everything else is exactly the same somehow. And he happens to be a Beatles superfan who knows how to sing and play all their songs by heart, so he ends up selling them himself and becomes this massive superstar, because of course the Beatles are just objectively the Greatest Band Ever™ and no one could possibly not love every single one of their songs, even 50 years later and without having been spoonfed the narrative that they were the Greatest Band Ever™ by the media all their lives.
I find it a bit silly, is what I'm getting at.
But here's my actual thought: What if the movie had taken the opposite approach? What if, to his dismay, people weren't utterly enthralled by the songs he'd brought back from the Best Timeline and he was left to grapple with the implications? Namely, that either (A) the Beatles weren't that transcendently awesome after all, just a group that got very popular all of a sudden and managed to maintain that fame through the end of their careers, or (B) they really were that great, but Kids These Days wouldn't know good music if it stole their cell phones and threw them in the toilet? Would the movie be better or worse? And assuming the writers didn't want to come out on either side of that debate, would they even be able to pull it off without the movie being a complete mess that ultimately says nothing?

Many of the songs are new, original songs written and performed by Ed Sheeran (a non-Old) who is also playing a major role in the movie
It stars a nonwhite lead (Himesh Patel) and features a lesbian in a major supporting role (Kate McKinnon)
it took me .34 seconds to research this on google

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
The trailer I saw must have been based on an early draft of the movie, then, because there is definitely a scene where he tries looking up the Beatles on the Internet, only to find no results.

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
trailers are very often bad for judging the actual movie, because they sell the concept the marketing department thinks the movie is (and totes should be, our focus groups said so!), not the actual movie
