Ohhhh nelly. Sorry to keep posting to this thread but, yes, I'll be there.
Years from now, I'm going to ask myself why I flew across the country to a My Little Pony convention at the drop of a hat when a week before I'm seeing the folks in back home. :ohgawd:
I'll say that it's a mini-vacation, or 'you only live once'.

I guess I'll be wearing a hoodie the color of a lightly burnt Scootaloo -> :nngh: <- maybe we'll have an MLPony meetup and lunch together or something.

The only thing about BroNYcon that rubs me the wrong way is that it's a single convention that happens three(?) times a year. I understand the reasoning behind it — "Why make people wait until once a year for a con about a show that might not get more than two, and later two and a half, seasons?" But then, why not instead start three different annual conventions, each in a different part of the country? The very exact corner of the country is hardly a central location, and aside from people who live right across town from the place, most people aren't likely to see the point in trying to attend every time.

This isn't me being bitter about being too far to attend, by the way; I'm just thinking of the other people who are, who actually want to.

The meetups happen in other cities, but this is a big one.

seriously though, I don't know.

If you can fill a schedule, and fill a hotel and still charge $40-45 for it, and do more than break even, salud, really. Hope your crowd doesn't burn out on all of this.

I'll be going, though I have no idea what to expect. I've tried to keep myself in contact with some of the more level headed people in the fandom, but after seeing how some of the fandom is, I almost expect to see one of the VAs or bigger artists have to pull out mace at some point.
I doubt that will happen, but I will have a video camera on hand in case

Yeah, there's no way I'd ever go to this since it'd require me to actually get on a plane, not to mention I'm not the type of person who feels comfortable in crowded places filled with people I don't know.

However, I hope the people who go will have fun and tell stories and such about what they saw there! :yay:

I will be sure to bring my camera!

Serious question, though: I find awkward fan things hilarious, both good-naturedly and with a bit of shadenfreude where it seems appropriate, but I know that 1) lots of people don't share that view and 2) this board is a friendly place. What sort of things would people like to see in the trip report?

Absolutely no cosplay. Truthfully I am not that enthused about people posting pics to poke fun at people either, it almost never ends well.

My advice would be to make a writeup and if you have interesting pictures, perhaps link an offsite gallery.

I refuse to pay 60+ dollars for Tallgeese and I to go to a "con" full of people who like JJ/Crookedtrees/Slugbox's art. (lol)

Shame too, cause it's just a short ride away.

Is the threat of The Ugly Con-Goer such a show stopper for some of you? I keep thinking some of you are just determined to assume that they're all horrid unbathed eczema monsters eating hard blocks of ramen out of the wrapper.

I'm just scared of being the only person from this board over there because everyone pulled out or one reason or another
and the show is boring and I'm left to wander the steets of midtown Manhattan nibbling my knish.

Sabrett is a franchise of pushcart vendors that sells hotdogs, pretzels and fried mashed potato and cabbage filled buns called knishes (pronounced neesh).
Goes great with a bit of sour cream.

I plan to continue being elusive and not appearing at such things. I've long since had my fill of the con circuit (anime) and have no intention of going to a pony-related con for many of the same reasons. (Not to mention the fact that I'm not even going to be around to do so) That said, those of you who haven't had the opportunity to help RUN a convention may not have a good understanding of the issues a con of this size has, so I certainly don't fault the BroNYCon people for what they do (or don't do). [Full disclosure: I helped to run a 700-800 person anime/gaming convention for three years, so I should hope to have an idea what sort of logistical issues these guys have and why their costs are the way they are]

Oh, and Chinatown Fair closed recently. No more arcades for you. Sorry.

I kinda want to go, as I've never been to a con before, and have been told it's an experience any self-respecting nerd should have at least once. That and I've never been to NYC either. But I'm on a limited budget currently, and all of my Christmas money is going toward massively upgrading my PC.

I talked a bit with Purple Tinker over e-mail, and she helped me brainstorm a way I could come :yay:

For any of you on the fence about attending, http://www.megabus.com was something recommended to me by a friend from college, something she used for every trip home. It's dirt-cheap bus rides. I got a round trip from Boston to NYC and back for $30. That might help lower the cost hurdle, y'know?

And a con is a nerd rite of passage. I went to NY Comic Con last year, and it was such a blast. It was great just walking around and seeing the sights, and I got to say howdy to a bunch of people (and even got a sketch from Andrew Hussie, the first piece in my wall o' pop-culture art). I've never been to a smaller con, but even if you get bored, hey, there's always New York City out there. That's pretty cool.

Once we figure out all the ponygoons that are going we can probably exchange phone numbers with each other or something via PM if we want to meet up for lunch or something. I know I'll be, at least a small amount of time, at the table for the fangame "The Fiends of Dream Valley" because I'm one of the voice actors in the game and would like to meet the team behind it.

I wound up paying for my ticket and then I found out since we (the Fiends of Dream Valley group) are actually going to be considered guests we get in for free but oh well. :v:

I expect full trip reports from everyone going to this shindig. I'd go myself but I am a poor college student and I'd have to choose between this and Ohayocon :fluttersmith: . Considering Ohayocon is a 5 minute walk from my apartment the choice was obvious. :v:
And for anyone needing to get there, I'll echo Pony Factory, megabus is a really good way to get to where you need.

Hey guys, the schedule has been posted!

Image
Wow, that's going to be one busy day. I'm part of the "Fiends of Dream Valley" group so I'm going to have to make an appearance there at some point and I agreed to watch the booth for them for at least an hour but we should have plenty of time to get some Ponygoons meet-up happen.

The con stuff I mostly care about seeing are the the VAs, the episode screening, Dan Ingram, and Fighting is Magic. I doubt I'll bother with the Pony Auction because, knowing the kind of money bronies are able to throw around on custom pony merch, I know I won't stand a chance.

So, looking over this thread, I have deduced the following ponygoons will (possibly) be in attendance:
Myself
Headless Horse
Pony Factory Factory
Scuderia Ferrarity
Haller
BartonFink

Am I missing anybody?
