I'm refusing to even watch this crap. It's probably the only dub where they actually translated some names (but left the other ones transliterated). This is despite the fact, that the toys sold here all have transliterated names. Hasbro Russia are literally dumbasses for allowing this travesty.

And from the reports I heard, the translation is really bad too. I spent months translating MLP:FiM to Russian, painstakingly trying to preserve all the puns, jokes and songs, and then they put out something that reads like it went through some automatic translating tool. It is, frankly, insulting.

I know who you are! A Moon Pony!

I'm interested in reading some examples of translations that you feel you did better than the dub as some sort of comparison. (I don't speak Russian, if that helps.)

Most of the foreign translations are terrible from what I hear. It's a children's cartoon designed to sell toys - they are obviously not going to put very much effort into it just to impress a small number of adult fans who have already watched it in English.

So is the original! And you can't sell toys if you can't even get their names right.

I finally found the DVD dub and it sounds like all the names were transliterated. Wonder why the TV version decided to do it differently.

Ogatamon has a few more Japanese fandubs on her channel-
"This is whining!"- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XakZDXVcrrU
Pinkie's party from 'Party of One'- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAJFkpJX8K0
Poney Pokey- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5alwyJtCJI
Pinkie's singing telegram- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fK7TWuYZg3g
Giggle at the Ghosties- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2BMGohcqFk

She also has a couple of 'Ponies what are British' fandubs that I guess could count as a foreign language to us in the US and Canada-
Part 1- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOi3StWmG7A
Part 2- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPbhQwjiRps
(I really want an abridged series sounding like this :awesomedash: )

And Pluszcz's channel has a bunch of comparison videos of the various official dubs-

Yeah, the Dutch version is kinda...bleeeeeeh. I honestly have no reason to ever watch it over the original.

Also, in case somone is curious about the dutch version of "Buzzards who really buzz": They translated it as "Gieren die echt gierig zijn" So, in our version the buzzards are greedy since our word for buzzard and word for greedy sound alike. :iamapony:

That Swedish dub is really good. I dunno about translation-wise, since I'm not Swedish, but the voices are really good.

The Czech dub is rather lacking in most voices, but I like the Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy voices they chose. :crack:

Edit: Oh gosh the Flutterguy voice in the Swedish dub. :starity:

Since swedish is such a worthless language in my opinion, there would be no way to make a really good translation of MLP to swedish. I think they've managed to translate it the best way they could... However, I don't agree on the voices. Some of them are pretty good, sure, but the majority of the voices, especially Rainbow Dash, sounds really bad. Or maybe it's not the voices, but rather the voice acting that's lacking. Most of them don't sound dedicated at all, and Applejack doesn't even have a dialect. D:<

It just seems very poorly done, particulary when I know that swedish dubs can be really good. I actually prefer the swedish dubs to some cartoons, like Ed Edd n' Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Flapjack, Johnny Bravo and many more.

I have to agree. I watched a lot of Danish dubbed CN stuff back in the good days, and I think the English voices sound all kinds of wrong when I watch the stuff on youtube now. Danish Ed was/is the best.

This dub is all over the place, jumping from average/OK to terrible. Some lines are delivered OK, others not. Same goes for the voices some maybe might fit the characters, but others, like Spike's, not a chance (also the sea serpent is a woman for some reason). The Shadowbolts were OK and I liked Princess Celestia's voice. The translation is a whole other story, probably the most glaring problem i've noticed is that who ever did it couldn't decide how to call Nightmare Moon so she basically had several names throught the episode. At least one line wasn't fully translated. The songs vary, Winter Wrap Up and Art of The Dress were akward and bad, Cupcakes and Pinkie's laughter song were mostly OK.

I've actually caught bits and pieces of the dub on TV from time to time (but couldn't find it on the internet) and it seemed at least OK, but after seeing this I'm not sure if it was just because I haven't watched a whole episode or maybe they improved later on.

Swedish is the whole of season 1, while Norwegian and Danish only have episodes 23 and 26, at least from that user. Also, for some reason, they uploaded Best Night Ever in Danish twice.

I recommend checking that profile if you want to hear all the scattered Norwegian and Danish songs, since I'm way too lazy to add them all to the OP. I'll hold out for full episodes eventually.

Well, considering the fact that Boing is run by Mediaset, it's likely that's what happened.
I'm not sure what this bodes for Season 2 considering the creepiness of the first three episodes...
Hell, they'll probably just skip them and go straight to Luna Eclipsed. They do that all the time.

Yeah, if 'Party of One' was too much for them then 'Lesson Zero' will be as well. :(

Hopefully some group over there will do a fandub like CrimsonStudioMLP did in Germany for a few MLP:FiM episodes.

Not only that but Return of Harmony Part One & Two will probably be skipped over due to some BS excuse like "CHILDREN CAN'T WATCH THIS STUFF AT 9:00 IN THE MORNING! IT'S TOO SCARY, SO WE'LL REPLACE IT WITH A RERUN, NO ONE WILL NEVER NOTICE!"

stonecutter wrote:Boing should redub Fluttershy so she could sound demure and quiet at least.

Ha, there's probably a better chance of you striking oil in your backyard then Boing ever even considering doing a redub. They've got their voices and by God, they'll stick with them.

I seem to remember reading somewhere about the translations in that one being totally :effort: — they specifically pointed out that "Out of my hair? What about your hair?" got turned into some incomprehensible mess. At least I think that was the French dub they were talking about.

Semi-related, but the Italian FiM theme that was brought up on EqD awhile back (was that actually confirmed as a real intro?) is my favorite song/intro theme/music piece of all time past present and future. My mp3 player is probably sick of playing it over and over and over and over by now.
hey guys dont make fun of me, hear me out, but theres this new show out where they completely revamped my little pony and i hear its actually really good, maybe i ought to watch it sometime
