For a free alternative, I can heavily recommend LimeChat. Been using it for some time now, and it has a few nifty features. Especially if you ever plan on keeping track of multiple rooms and servers. There's also a Windows version but it's entirely in Japanese.
EDIT: Fixed link. Doesn't work with the www. in front of it for some reason.
Also, now that I'm not posting from my phone, here's why it's awesome. It's a single-window design:
That bottom panel shows everything that's happening in the other channels you're currently not viewing, including server messages and stuff. It's also designed to accomodate heavy keyboard use, is fully themeable and runs pretty damn fast. I'm using it on my G4 Powermac(400Mhz) under Tiger and it runs a lot smoother than other IRC clients I've tried on it.

Smoke wrote:Well, it's fully themeable and it's free rather than costing 20 Euros. With the standard Dark theme I use it's quite pleasant on the eyes.

Anybody know any reason why this is happening?
4. Register your nick
Nickserv is an integral bot on many IRC servers. It allows you to bind a username to an e-mail and password. Pretty much, it introduces an ability to ensure everyone that the person with your username is actually you. It's dead easy to register. Just type /nickserv register <password> <e-mail>

Sorry about that.

Tailspin wrote:So a minor question: is mIRC the only client that allows you to make a list of your favorite channels on a server? All the others I've found (after running around Wikipedia and google) either don't have a favorites list or have it but automatically connect to all the listed channels (HexChat and PChat, I think). I mean auto-connect ain't a bad thing, but I'd kinda like it if I had a choice what to connect to.
